everything tasted great but the pizza is what to come for! very extensive and good wine list too!
awesome place for a bday dinner! will definitely be back!
Price of food was high compared to quality and quantity (especially the wine). The salumi platter was great. WAY too noisy for old folks. No return engagement for us.
Food was great as usual. Service not as great, which has also been my experience i in the past
Way too noisy even at 6pm before the main crowd. Melanzana pizza was a bad choice but trout and squid ink with shellfish good. Please ask chef to find a recipe for mela stregata and add it on the dessert menu. The drinks were all superb, somellier wonderful and knowledgeable. The strega was amazing and italian gin superb as was the Montepulchiano Abrizzo he recommended.
Our server was astounding - unflappable, unbelievably upbeat without seeming even remotely insincere. every moment of her service was 100%, A+, 12/10. I could go on. We loved the restaurant and Joanna (Johanna?) made it really shine.
The best pizza, good service, no complaints 👌😍😋
Fish of the day and steak were very good. Pizza marinara and pork chop were not as good. Very noisy! Very slow service and not particularly attentive wait staff.
Birthday! Fabulous meal and service! Wine outstanding, but you knew that! 😀
Very disappointed in our food but most the SLOW service. No apologies for it taking nearly an hour for our two pizzas to arrive. They were okay but not fabulous and had cooled by the time they arrived. Beans in our side dish were undercooked. The place is incredibly noisy. We won't go back.
Pizza was excellent and the appetizers were good as well. Bucatini was bland; probably should have ordered something a little more adventurous.
This place is a fantastic neighborhood option, fantastic food and easy to get to.
Authentic wood oven pizzas at around $22 are still the best bet. Connor, the new guy served in an outstanding manner. Price wise, A16 is getting pretty tough on the wallet but that’s dining everywhere in the Bay Area unfortunately.......LOL!!
First off, I've been here many times throughout the years. All times were excellent. I was surprised this night fell short. The food had hits and misses. The fried pizza was super! But the pork chop was cooked unevenly. Some parts good, others a bit too pink. And sour cherries that came with the pork chops were crazy sour! Similar to the passion fruit sorbet. If you like something that will curl your toes, those two items would do it. Lastly, service. It wasn't bad, but very uneven. For our party of 5, everyone's food came out as it came, but one person's was quite a bit later than everyone else's. And it happened again at dessert. All the desserts came out, but one lonely espresso came out much later than everything else. I'm guessing it was an off night. I'd still come again, but I was hoping for consistency, since I brought my folks here for dinner. They weren't impressed.
Food was ok. Service was poor.
Great food. Missed on service. Dessert was served long after the espresso was finished. Birthday celebration was indicated on the reservation but not even acknowledged by anyone.
Waiter was very respectful of our business conversation.
If you’ve ever wondered about southern Italian cuisine, take the A16 to College Avenue in Oakland’s Rockridge district and you’ll find out. Food, wine and service are excellent, and the pizza is great. Try it, you’ll like it!
PS - the A16 is the Italian Autostrada highway that cuts across from Naples to Canosa di Puglia...
Tried a new Wine recommended. Amazing. Southern Italy wines are amazing. The pork chop was the best I’ve ever had. Flavor on top of flavor. Will be. Ack. A favorite! Highly recommend!!!
I really like the pizza here. The only negative is that it can be really loud when busy.
Always good, but very expensive. Fortunately at A16 you do get what you pay for.
My husband and I just celebrated our anniversary at A16. The staff was very thoughtful and made our dinner very special. It was a very enjoyable meal, the pizza was gorgeous, the drinks and afters were delightful. I can't wait to go back!
Delicious food in bright atmosphere!
Took 30 minutes to get our wine. Food arrived before drinks. Burrata boring and served with poor crackers. Will never dine here again.
Fantastic place to meet and eat great food and sip great wine. Recommend the Newton Cab.
They must have had an off night because our food wasn't veery good. We normally love this place.
I haven't had service this bad in a long while. Our unfriendly waiter dropped off the wine and was never to be seen again. No question if we need anything else or if we were happy with our food. Nothing! I wanted to order more but couldn't find a waiter. Our water glasses were empty for at least 30 min before we received more (after asking the bus boy). At some point someone else waited on us but the experience of our main waiter was so off putting that I really couldn't enjoy the rest of our dinner. I will not come back to this place. A16 in SF probably yes but not in Oakland.
While the food was very good and the service was excellent, our experience was spoiled by very loud and noisy customers at the nearby tables. I guess no one ever taught the millennials how to behave in public!
The food was very disappointing. The salad was swimming in dressing, disguising the lovely little gems and the bucatini pasta was dry and tasteless. I actually sent it back, which I never do. The pizza dough was undercooked and the toping was a mush. I'm sorry it didn't work out.
Great atmosphere with friendly and knowledgeable staff; we received great wine recommendations and got to try an Italian red that we don't know anything about, yum!
For our anniversary and A16 treated us well with great service class and style. The food and wines were excellent as always.
Food was bland, overpriced and expensive. Would not go back and not recommend
Meatball Monday is the best!! Plus the Funghi pizza. Wash it down with a bottle of Pietradolce from Sicily and it’s a wrap!
I am 100% born and raised in Italy, so I know exactly how a good pasta tastes and feels like.
The pasta I had at A16 was way below expectations: the sauce was very dry, difficult to swallow without the help of some water/wine, and flavourless.
The place is nice and the service is good too, too bad the food is below par and prices are high too.
As a comparison, "Il Casaro" in SF and "Lucia's" in Berkeley offer much better food at a lower price.
Perfect night, Johanna was superior as well as the young man that was helping her.
Always solid. Kept waiting for 15 mins but they provided a glass for each of us. Fair enough.
I went to A16 on Monday, 8/19 for my wives birthday. Food was great, but the service was absolutely terrible. I actually saw a couple seated down from us two tables down get up and leave as no one came to take their order for over 20 minutes. Our service was not much better.
Overall it felt like we were there for rookie night.
I love this spot. We were seated on time and the food was great. The server gave me a great recommendation on wine and it went great with my food. My colleague loved his steak and I loved my salmon. Great spot. I love their restaurant in San Francisco too.
I love A16. The pizza is amazing, the servers are great and they have so many spectacular menu options, everyone in your party will be happy.
I don't often write reviews because I get bombarded with requests. Our dinner at A16 Rockridge was off the charts amazing. The service provided to us by Jeffrey was just spectacular. He knew exactly what we needed and his intuition is rare anymore. The meal was also outstanding as usual! We have been to both locations several times! This was a special occasion and you guys made it special. Thank you!
