Excellent food once again! Although somewhat limited, it is a really imaginative menu and everything that we ordered was delicious. The rustic outdoor setting adds to the ambiance, but cushions on the chairs would be helpful for overall comfort.

I hope this place can survive. Having a new addition to the neighborhood would be nice. They need to up the quality of their food. The duck leg was so tough, I couldn’t cut it. The short rib was also very tough which amazes me. If you braise a short, how can it be tough? Two of the three starters were good. All portions are very small, which we are okay with. The entrees are protein only, no veg. And, they don’t offer sides to buy.

Service was real slow and it wasn’t that busy. Our waiter pretty much ignored us, even when he knew we wanted out of there. We put our credit cards out and waited 20 minutes and he was just standing talking to a co-worker. We finally walked the bill into the place and had it closed out.

The garden setting is beautiful and I have enjoyed it many times for coffee. This was our first time at night and we had many rats scurrying around us. At one time we saw 4 together. It started getting creepy. The waiters response to us commenting on the rats “Force of nature”. What kind of response is that? When your only dining area is outside, I’d say to get the rats out of your dining room. Since they are charging fine dining prices, I think they are off the mark.

We had to walk over to Cesar’s and have a few cocktails to get that experience out of our minds.

Beautiful and interesting on the plate. The portions are very small and the meal is very pricey, so be aware. This is not a place to go for a filling meal, but a dining “experience” and a good glass of wine.

This culinary marvel surpasses any expectation I've had about food as art. Every bite was an amazing experience. We were exclaiming throughout the whole meal "this is amazing". The portions aren't huge but that gives you room to try more than one dish. Since the two of us shared. It was perfect. The wine was the other complimenting aspect. The variety that these two chefs brought to the menu are extraordinarily. Just go you will love it!

The short ribs were super burnt and stringy. There were at least two different mice running around the back patio. The service was nice. The coffee and Hamachi were very good.

The covered garden area is a delightful visual treat. The presentation of the dishes are elegantly arranged. Flavors are unique and delicate. The areas they’ll need to work on are: 1. Waiter knowledge of the wines, 2. Quality of the wines, and 3. At least a second dessert option.

It was a lovely experience and the food was amazing. Only issue...it was FREEZING. Not enough heating units, especially for tables placed outside of main/center area under heat device.

Both the dining experience and the food are very disappointing for the price. There aren’t enough space heaters to keep everyone warm, water is served in plastic cups, the silverware came dirty, the seating is uncomfortable. Service was slow, and the food at best very bland. The trout was good, but the quail was dry, stunted, and poorly assorted. The scallops were borderline fresh. I am all for supporting local restaurants especially during the pandemic, but this experience was really terrible. To top it all off the portions are tiny for the price (had the flavors and combinations been intricate and well put together I wouldn’t mind but this wasn’t even the case). Not setting foot in this restaurant ever again.

saw this on an instagram post. decided to book a reservation. the food and the flavors were all on point. it was an excellent dining experience and would recommend others to try it out. the dishes were all creative. i especially loved the seafood cappuccino.

Abstract Table is a little difficult to find. (Behind Cat Coffee near Cheeseboard on Shattuck).

Worth the trip! The service is great. Each dish is well thought out and delicious! We had the seafood cappuccino- which was a blend of lobster, shellfish, white fish-refined and elegant. The shaved Scallop appetizer was simply amazing. Loved our entrees as well. Nice short wine list.

Food amazing! They just need some tweaks: gotta have more outdoor heaters - real glasses for water; coffee for desert; cloth napkins. There is a way to do higher end covid outdoor dining nicely and safely. They have the space to do it. I hope they work out the kinks.

I applaud the cooks for thinking outside the box with menu items and presentation and the food was very good. The serving size is small and heavier on protein than vegetables. The heavy food could use more citrus and the incorporation of greens would help the presentation. The limited menu did not include a green salad. In addition, there was only one beer on the menu and a very limited wine menu. It was still a nice evening but there is room to grow!

The outside patio was quite charming, but lights were so bright. They could’ve done more mood lighting as it felt a little unsettling. the food was okay and looked better on the photos. The portions were extremely small so be prepared to leave hungry. I was also a little surprised to see they were serving everything in disposable and plastic and paper plates and utensils especially because of the price of everything. I realize it’s because it’s covid and they are more of a pop up then actual full service restaurant. Would we go back again ? Probably not, I was not amazed with the food, besides the small baby serving portions and my order being too dry and my friend ordered the lamb which was so fatty it was inedible! My husband ordered the short rib which actually really good and we substituted the lamb for the maitake mushroom entree which was delicious.


I hope they get their ambiance nicer, maybe music? Better lighting, as well as their plating and portion sizes. If so I would return because it’s hard to find a patio like that to eat in the East bay

My meal last year at Abstract Table was one of my three favorite meals of 2019. At that time my wife and I were wowed by the presentation and even more impressed by the flavors.

Last week we tried Abstract Table again. Although the entire meal was just a notch below our first visit (really nick-picking) it was again fantastic. In fact, my favorite dish this year, and probably better than any one thing I ate all last year at any meal was a seafood "cappuccino" that composed the second dish of this meal.

The theme of this most recent meal must have been the Pacific Islands because some of the dishes reminded us of our favorite luaus in Hawaii and other dishes reminded us of meals we've had in Fiji and French Polynesia. Abstract Table is a great value considering the types of ingredients that make up your meal and the craftsmanship that is put into those ingredients. Normally, this type of dining experience costs twice as much in the SF Bay Area.

Both times my wife and I visited we opted for the 7-course meal and we both left the establishment totally full (fat and happy).

Our family had the Oakland restaurant week menu which was delicious but the portion size was ridiculously small for $40 3 courses. We were all left feeling hungry and had to go to another restaurant to eat afterwards. We are thin people and used to fine dining, Michelin star type or tapas restaurants. We travel to Europe twice a year and eat at many establishments which have pre fixe menus. The food quality and flavors were fine and we enjoyed it, but can’t understand why the portions were so small. Sadly we can’t recommend this place to anyone or will come back again. Again we’re not looking for buffet huge sized portions, just something more reasonable sized portions for $40 each plus tip and tax.

We tried it during restaurant week. It was only 3 courses and they did not up the portions so it did not feel like it was enough food. I get it’s a “discount” from their typical $65 for 5 courses, but it’s not much of a concession since they took out 2 courses. Plus their regular menu just did not look that interesting. They more than made up for it by the big mark up in drinks. $18 for a glass of OK Brut rose was definitely over priced. We may consider going back if the next menu looks more interesting but not dying to.

Went there for Oakland restaurant week, they offered a 3-course menu. The food was delicious and really well presented. The portions were very small so after the meal we were still hungry. I believe they offer 5- and 7-course menus, which sound amazing and are probably more filling.
