Afternoon Tea at The Merrion Hotel
Service was slow and impersonal but everything else was perfect
Excellent food and service would highly recommend to friends and family. Beautiful surroundings
The food was excellent. The tea selection was good. However, I am giving 4 stars to the overall experience due to : 1. Our table location which was poor and 2. Although our one waitress was personable and lovely, unfortunately our other waiter was rather snobbish.
Enjoyed the whole experience. My friends and I were meeting to celebrate, having met, 50 years ago at our first day in the Central Bank, and we have been friends ever since. So the afternooon tea was just the ticket. Thank you to everyone involved, especially the young man who served us. A treasure. (Unfortunately I've forgotten his name, comes with old age!!) Thank you again.
Dear CoraH, Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent visit to Drawing Rooms I was delighted to read your generous comments about the food and the service you received. It really makes it all worthwhile when somebody enjoys a visit as much as you did. I have already shared your kind words with the entire team here and they all join me in thanking you. Kind regards, Fabrice Furling, Drawing Rooms Manager
As expected, afternoon tea we had at the Merrion Hotel was absolutely incredible. Staff are very knowledgeable about the product, are super friendly and helpful, they really know how to make you feel welcome. Food was the highest quality, everything from savoury options to incredible art desserts, it blew us away. Considering price is €55 per person, you really get the whole package and it simply exceeds the expectations.
The Merrion is always my favourite place to go to whether lunch , spa or afternoon tea , a little haven away from the hustle and bustle. The afternoon tea was fabulous, the staff was really attentive and we loved every minute of it!
The Art Tea provided a wonderful opportunity for my two sisters and me to enjoy wonderful tea, coffee, sandwiches and lovely and luscious desserts in a beautiful building surrounded by gorgeous art. Our server, Brian went above and beyond in every way to make our experience extraordinary. The live harp music was an unexpected treat! Thank you for making our short stay in Dublin truly memorable!
Large amount of food.
Would have preferred if the tea pots had been left on the table or within accessible reach instead of waiting for staff to refill.
It was very expensive but a lovely treat. the service was excellent and the choice of teas was outstanding. I am just a bit sad that we didn't have longer to spend there. We were off to something else afterwards but easily could have stayed a bit longer. There was plenty to eat and we left feeling a bit overfull if anything. Thank you to the staff. The birthday girl was very happy.
The service was outstanding. Felt like we learned how the other half lives!!
I’ve wanted to try the Art Afternoon Tea every since I saw Paul Hollywood visit the hotel. It was an enjoyable experience and the service was exemplary. The pastry chefs interpretation of the artwork in the hotel was imaginative and perfectly presented but we found some were lacking the flavour advertised on the little descriptions.
We particularly enjoyed the Raspberry & Passionfruit Tart and the little Battenburg slices but there was little apple flavour off the Green apple macaroon and the lime sponge, orange chiboust with lemon jelly curd was colourful but tasted strange. The highlight of the whole experience was the lemon curd, served with the jam and cream to go with the absolutely perfect scones.
The sandwiches were very fresh and well filled . I would have liked it if there had been some other type of savoury like a little tart or demitasse of soup rather than all bread based.
I would recommend you try this once if you can afford it but I can’t say that it’s value for money.
Excellent service, within a pleasant environment. Staff were very attentive.
Food was lovely, far too much bread cake and scones.
We were seated on a sofa which wasn't the ideal place to eat, would have preferred a chair at a table.
We have had afternoon tea at many places including the Ritz.
We did enjoy our afternoon tea, their was only one lady serving on and the poor girl was running around like a headless chicken.
She needed help, then we would have had a better experience.
As our Tea was on a different table , I had to keep getting up to pour the tea.
Best afternoon tea experience in Dublin.
This was not just Afternoon Tea, it was an experience! My guests and I had a fabulous few hours. Spacious elegant rooms with wonderful turf and log fires made you feel at home ( a very grand home of course). Attentive staff, warm welcome, delicious eats, great choice of teas, and clever pastries themed on the Art collection of the hotel. The ‘Art’ thing is real and a genuine surprise! We came away with a lovely Art book, an elegant little box of the treats we could not eat and a promise to go back soon!
It was just so lovely. Relaxing. Fantastic service. Noone rushed us. Art was impressive. A perfect way for friends to catch up who have not seen each other in a while. Nice space between tables. Yes I would come back definitely.
Myself and my Mum went for afternoon tea at the Merrion last Saturday. I love the Merrion
Very fun premise for Afternoon Tea. The waiters are very responsive and happy to explain the art, the food, and the tea. The savory sandwiches were not very impressive, but the pastries and 2nd course desserts were phenomenal and looked great too. As part of the fixed price, you can try as many teas as you would like, and they offer a lot of interesting, novel teas.
We had a wonderful afternoon and the petit dark haired lady serving us was superb!
From the moment you walk up the steps to the Merrion Hotel you are welcomed with a warm smile and greeting. The Art afternoon tea in the drawing room was the perfect setting. Seated next to the fire place our pleasant waitress added to our very enjoyable experience. The art desserts influenced by the hotel art was amazing!
Had the pleasure to have afternoon tea at the Marrion. It was good but not fantastic. You have to know that I compare with the Savoy London, as the gold standard for high end afternoon tea.
Firstly, the choice of teas is good, but they do not let you poor your self, having the tea pot on a side table out of reach for the guest. Personally I find that not good it leaves you to the descretion of the staaff.
Secondly, the sandwhiches, acceptabgle but not outstanding, and no second serving. The cucumber sandwich was not a cucumber sandwich but a sanwich with cucumber and something else.
The pastery mostly sponge cake with marsipan, boaring to say the least.
The scones cold, very compact not near to perfect and very small.
The highlight of the tea should be the pasteries inspired by the art in the hotel, three of them. To of them hardly eatable, to sweet and odd in composition. The third was on the otherhand a delight, mango and passion fruit very good, would have liked to have had an other.
To summarise, over priced not living up to the quality one has the right to expect, I would advice to concider an other place to have tea if you are looking for high end afternoon tea.
Service was spectacular. The tea was amazing. The food was pretty decent- had a great time and highly recommend to anyone visiting!
Throughly enjoyed my afternoon tea despite the fact no one asked us if we were enjoying our food or asked us did we enjoy our afternoon tea when paying. Didn’t feel the staff were up to scratch bar one member of staff who I didn’t catch the name off, very bubbly young man who made us have a giggle when serving our art tea desserts! He only served us those and sadly we didn’t have him serving us for the rest of the afternoon tea experience!
Wonderful ambience and food and it kept coming !!
The staff were very welcoming and it made a wonderful ending to our vacation in Ireland .
Highly recommended .
I have done a lot of afternoon tea in different hotels .And i would recommend them first .The staff were under a lot of pressure and look like there was staffing issues and not enough staff on duty .There were people who just joined the area form the bar .I would come back but only for dinnning experience in restaurant area .As i feel it would be a better experience. The hotel over all was beautiful.
Kindregards Jennifer McCarthy
Fantastic service. Excellent quality of food and attention to detail.
Wonderful service, great food ! Loved the experience
Great experience. Lovely food and atmosphere. Staff were really nice. I would highly recommend it.
Lovely food, lovely people - highly recommended. We loved the artistic flair of the pastry chef and the inspiration of the hotel's art collection.
This is a wonderful experience, with all the tea you can drink and an absolutely overwhelming array of sweets. (Word to the wise: They're happy to box up items you'd like to save for later. No need to take them all on in one sitting!) The space is luxurious and soothing. During my tea, a harpist came in and filled the room with beautiful music. A wonderful experience.
One quibble: Although tea is nominally the center of the experience, not much mind was given to steeping time. Most of our tea was served under-steeped. As far as I could tell, the servers weren't measuring the amount of steeping time at all. Consider bringing out a small hourglass with each pot to provide a countdown to perfection.
An excellent experience - obviously on the expensive side for exactly what you get but it's more a payment for the experience as much as anything else
It was such a lovely afternoon in a beautiful setting. The experience was made all the better with the fabulous attentive staff. I would highly recommend to others
Went for our first wedding anniversary. The setting, service, food and drink were excellent. A really lovely way to spend an occasion!
Great service and lovely food. Was hard to eat it all as there was soo much and came with 2 courses.
Great time, more than enough food to satisfy so we highly recommend! This afternoon tea.
Food was lovely. No problem in changing some sandwich fillings. Attention to detail was excellent. Service was great. Always attentive but not intrusive. Harpist was a lovely addition to the overall experience. Will definitely return. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking to treat themselves.
My son treated me in July so I recommended it to my friends forwa birthday trea it wasq fantastic many thanks to all
Quiet, good service. The food is alright. The scones, cakes and sandwiches were not great, I've had better before and for cheaper!
too expensive for the quality of food -- scones -- sandwich +-
perfect setting, qiet and perfect pictures in the Reception ++
The Art Tea was a delightful surprise. The Irish Malt tea is especially wonderful.
