I booked Al Vesuvio on line after reading some mixed reviews and was a little worried as I was travelling to Dublin for a weekend from the UK. However, my worries were not founded as it was a great place to eat at. The staff were very freindly, meal was excellent, atmospher was brilliant.

I will be back again and be using Open Table again to book.

My partner and i discovered Al Vesuvio by accident very recently after seeing a movie at the IFI. What a find!! The restaurant is much larger inside that it appears to be on the outside. We were seated after a 5 minute wait (not bad for a walk in without a reservation on a Friday) and were then waited on by a friendly Italian waiter (all the staff there appeared to be Italian).
The restaurant has a traditional and informal ambiance about it, and despite being located in what appears to be a very old vaulted masonry basement, the place was really warm and cosy and well lit. The place was pretty busy and had a bit of buzz and energy about it. The food was great. The pizza was easily the best I've ever had in Dublin (and just as good as that served in Naples to be honest) and the tagliatelle was also tremendous. They offer a Nutella filled Calzone pizza as a desert special, which almost all of the other diners appeared to be ordering. It looked great and i'm definitely going to try it next time. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a really vibrant, authentic and hearty Italian in the Templebar area.
