    I would have loved to give a better review but our experience wasn’t great. While our server was nice, the service was extremely slow for both drinks and food. We picked this restaurant not knowing it was a lobby bar in a hotel, which was a bummer. There was only a few tables other then us and then a large group. When the large group was done they chose to gather and stand almost on top of our table while we ate and by that point we were the only table left. It was uncomfortable to say the least. The menu is what drew us to try this restaurant and unfortunately the food fell short and the prices were high, resort prices for chain restaurant quality food. Sad to say I wouldn’t recommend or return.

    Prior to going to this restaurant, I read the very mixed reviews, but decided to give it a try. What a disaster! The service was poor, the food was terrible and not as described on the menu. I had taken a friend for a special occasion and was beyond disappointed!! The one good thing was that the very professional and kind manager listened to my complaints, agreed with them and subsequently comped the entire meal. Kudos to him! Will not be retiring to this restaurant again.

    This is a nice downtown Tempe choice especially good if one is going to a show at Gammage. We had dinner before, but I suspect it would be nice to have drinks/dessert after as well. Lots of good light meal choices: exactly what all 3 of us were wanting. Asian pear salad with shrimp was especially good (thank you Andranique for the shrimp suggestion!). Would eat here again.

    Great spot for dinner before Gammage shows. Complimentary valet makes it easy and convenient. Food is decent, have only had salads and flatbreads. Ok wine selection, although prices a little high for the selections. Overall the benefits of proximity and valet and good food make this a great option for anyone going to a Gammage show.

    I selected this restaurant because of the advertised brunch, which looked excellent. We arrived to find they d/c their brunch and only served a limited lunch menu. Our server was very nice. We made selections and the food took a LONG time to arrive…the restaurant was dead. I could see our food sitting there for at least 10 minutes before they brought it and one of my friends waited an additional 5 minutes for hers to arrive. Only one of us thought their food was better than mediocre. I ordered a Cabrese style flat bread because I ams sensitive to spicy food and found it was basically a pepperoni pizza with red pepper sprinkled on it!! It was way too spicy but I was so hungry. We parked in the nearby garage and it cost $9. We won’t return.

    This is a hotel restaurant, which I did not know when I booked it. I selected it because of the inventive menu. We shared the branzino and the pear salad with steak. The food was good with a significant spice level, so if you're sensitive to seasoning, you should keep this in mind.

    The food wasn’t good tbh… burger was dry. Flatbread was burnt… sandwich bread was too chewy. Fries were good. Every water had “coffee grounds in it, even the ones the server replaced lol. Still okay tho

    Had a 5pm reservation, drinks took almost half an hour to arrive and food was an hour wait. Maybe 15 other people on the floor. The salad was flavorful but the pork belly flat bread was bland. Wasn’t worth dealing with down town Tempe traffic and parking.

    When we came in the dining area was empty. You would think the service would be top notch. It definitely was not. It was extremely poor. The food was slow to arrive. The waitress “forgot” a salad. The flavors on some of the dishes were off. The waitress didn’t ask why some food wasn’t eaten. The cooks were on their phones the majority of the time in plain view and not wearing gloves while handling food. Highly don’t recommend trying this establishment.

    We had been to an Alter Ego themed dinner before and loved it, so we were super excited to have our anniversary dinner here. However, we were very disappointed with the experience. I made the reservation for 2 people, wanting an intimate setting for our anniversary, but we were placed on a small table with another couple who were also expecting their own table. When you make a reservation for 2 people, you expect to have your own table, but Alter Ego was more interested in making money than making their guests comfortable. Additionally, there were also several changes to the food and drinks that went against the posted menu; they changed the whole last cocktail and didn’t let anyone know. The food was also below par. The venison was dry and overcooked, the mousse was overset, and the portions were tiny! We left this 5 course hungry and got a snack on the way home. We have done several coursed dinners in the area, including one from Alter Ego previously, and knew to expect smaller portions since it’s essentially a tasting menu. But these portions were microscopic. Even the couple we shared a table with commented on how they were going to get McDonalds on the way home. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and we will not be back.

    Waited 20 minutes for our drink which didn't taste great - Then got the bill and it was $22 for a subpar skinny margarita. Food was good and server was friendly but there was no urgency to service the customer.

    We went to Alter ego for one of their chefs dinners. This one was based around Anthony Bourdain. It was a great experience with great food. One thing I would change would be, maybe showing some Anthony bourdain on the large TV behind the bar instead of basketball since the event was based on this past chef and a tribute to him. Other then that the staff was on point and the food was great.

    We had to pay to park. The chicken and waffles were tasty. The Chiliquiles was terrible. We were never offered anything to drink besides water and we had to ask for that to be re-filled a couple of times . The restaurant was not busy at all. I don't feel a need to return.

    We went for dinner on a weekend, total of six people in the entire restaurant (three tables of couples including us). It took 40 minutes for drinks (wine and mezcal) and this was after the fact our waiter forgot the drink order. Our dinner took an additional 40 minutes from the first order (medium rare steak and fish). The steak was cold by the time it was delivered to our table. I believe our waiter was preoccupied with other recreational activities.

    Food was okay, definitely not worth the price. We were the only table and we had to ask for more water. The shrimp dish looked like it was supposed to be cooked in juice per pictures I saw and they give you bread but ours was bone dry and we scrapped the bottom with the bread.

    We made 12:30pm reservations for Mother’s Day. We live near by and was super excited to try this restaurant. We arrived a few minutes early and was told to wait in the lounge area as they were cleaning tables and would help us shortly. 15 minutes later I was able to formally check in with the host. We were a little confused since we had been there waiting awhile and others who didn’t appear to have reservations were being sat before us. We did finally get a table at 1pm. We had asked for a high chair and waited about 10 more minutes until one was brought over. This was a very weird experience. It seemed like there was one server for all the tables even tho there appeared to be several staff members standing around. Unfortunately, the service was really slow and we felt unseen most of the time. They finally brought menus after being sat for 15 minutes. We took silverware from nearby empty tables. It was steady but not super busy. I’m not sure who dropped the ball but the experience was disappointing. We finally got food around 2pm for our 1230 reservation. What I must say is the food was outstanding, some of the best breakfast I’ve had. We will probably enjoy their take out but will likely not go sit down.

    We went for the May the 4th Be With You Star Wars 5 Course Dinner and it phenomenal. The food and drink pairings were delicious and well-thought out and the staff friendly and accommodating. Such a terrific experience!

    We attended the Star Wars Dinner for the second year in a row. While we had an excellent time, and it was fun to see all of the Star Wars nerds again, our experience this year wasn’t as great as the previous year. I feel as if last years event the portions were larger, the drinks were larger, the food told more of the Star Wars story, and the overall ambience of the night was better. Last year you were told a story, while you had your food, where you verbally walked through different areas of the saga such as Tatooine, Batuu, Ensor and why you were eating the dish, and the passion behind the dish was really felt. This year just felt rushed, and not as immersive. We still had an excellent time, but definitely enjoyed the experience from the first dinner much more.

    Came for a Star Wars “special event”. Here’s how it was decorated: one cardboard cutout and a really really sad balloon arch with half the balloons half inflated. The food was terrible! It was a five course tasting and not a single course was good. A taco with pork and sliced sausage and so much horseradish that’s all you tasted. Then bland noodles. Then a dry turkey meatball. Then the most disgusting stew I’ve ever tasted. Dessert was a Amon pie with the driest cookie I’ve ever had the misfortune to put in my mouth. I was really looking forward to this event, but I’ll never go back to Alter Ego again!
