Amber India - Santana Row

Although this was valentines day, it was not made apparent to me that the meals were fixed menu for the night. They were busy, and that's OK, but the service and timeliness of the food were not that great.
The review is on valentine’s dinner. I’ve been other times and really enjoyed, but valentine’s was a real disaster. Food was a tasteless mix of stuff, not even resembling Indian. Nearly inedible. Looking sloppy. Service was very inaccurate too. Very loud music, singer signing out of tune.
Fabulous food and atmosphere. Excellent lunch buffet with great choices.
Way past it’s best. Decor is tired and old - worn material on the benches, evident food stains here and there and just a general shabby appearance to the whole restaurant. Food a sad shadow of its former self - microwaved and dry chicken, stale tasting lamb shik kebabs and far from fresh lentils. Not a good experience, won’t be back anytime soon
Unnecessarily expensive. Not valie for money
Came here for a business meal on an off day--perfect! Quiet enough to have a conversation. Food was delish and everyone left happy. Will definitely book again for a similar occasion.
Excellent in every way, a delightful dinner!
Wonderful, freshly cooked weekend buffet! A good experience and great value!
Went to the restaurant for a true Amber food experience for NYE. Totally disappointed with the food. The food tasted like a typical buffet food you would get a standard Indian buffet. Was hoping to have a nice sit down meal with ordering a la carte from a menu. The servers were fantastic and polite.
The service was extremely poor. At one point, there was a group of servers just standing around, not taking our order. We were a party of 6 at 5:30pm, so there weren’t that many people around. Food was good but also not worth it for the price.
Food is always excellent. Cleanliness is somewhat of a concern. Could be cleaner. Had to exchange cups and silverware before. Love the food though.
It was a special date with my wife after I have been praising the place as I have been there multiple times.
Drove 45 min from North Bay Area.
Very bad experience.
No food replenished.
Waited for very long just to get clean plates or Naan.
Good quality was bad today. I am guessing with over crowded guests the kitchen was taking short cuts in preparation.
Wasted time and money for the service we didn’t get.
Food was avg and the service was terrible. It was a birthday party and they seated next to the kitchen it was noisy I asked to be moved we landed next to the bathroom with more noise. Really bad service they took our order and disappeared drinks came late and quality of food was just avg. Not worth the money.
Average Buffet at higher price, thats pretty much to summarize
It was horrible! I would not recommend this place to anyone. We were given really bad table, in separate room from rest of the restaurant. The noise level was way too high. The manager at the front was not even concern about it. He told us to wait for 30 more mins if we wanted to change the table. I would give zero star.
The worst servers. We had to wait for a very long time for any request to be filled.
The food was good, apart from the potatoes in the dosa. Service was all over the place and there were delays on multiple food items.
Manager was doing a good job with the staff.
The ambience was good and so was the presentation of the food. But the food lacked the flavors that we were looking forward to
Food was good. Though entrees takes a lot of time. Deserts even much more time. Overall they have to improve the service, some times we were felt we were ignored forever until we call someone
Best experience ever. Great food. The Gobi bezule (cauliflower) was excellent.
I didn’t enjoy the food here. I can’t recall ever having bad I dian food before. The rice had crunchy grains in it and the Butter Chicken has pieces of bone and cartilage in almost every piece. Who serves pieces of bone to customers? No, this wasn’t good at all. Especially since they charge Santana Row prices. The service was quite slow and inattentive as well. I waited longer for my check than it took me to eat my meal.
The Indian cuisine was lovely: the spices were an intrigue to our senses, the variety of texture and color infused the meal with interest and variety. And that is truly the description of India!
Good food, but overpriced for the serving size. My Butter Chicken should have cost $18, not $26. On the other hand, the bar serves an excellent Rye Manhattan, so it wasn’t too terrible. ;-)
The food and service was fabulous.
Good Indian place for a casual dining or an office lunch out. Food is almost always good. This time a little extra salt had crept into a couple of dishes. Cutlery was not easily available for curries and desserts
Not nearly as good as the other locations. Not nearly the same menu. Skip this one and drive up to Mountain View.
We all enjoyed our lunch at Amber India. The food, as usual was very tasty. It's so easy, you sit down they take your drink order and then you go over to where the buffet is located and just choose what you want to eat. I especially love their version of rice pudding....delicious!
I went to the afternoon buffet on a Sunday. Santana row has a brand new parking (free for now) which improved the accessibility to that end of the street. The place was cozy and they had reserved seats for us as per our OpenTable reservation. The buffet was moderately priced given the location, menu prices and ambience but the positives ended there and food/service was generally average.
The buffet options were limited. Rajma and Chole mix was a weird dish which I saw for the first time in a fine dining restaurant. Sambhar was the only South Indian offering, and they were better off not having it at all. All dishes were very mild flavored and spices were much tempered and bland.
The buffet refills were slow and the salad wasn't refilled for the full 45 min we were there. Few buffet dishes were refilled after requesting a couple of times. Sakoon in south bay does a much better job at lunch buffets in pretty much every regard.
I have been to the restaurant before, and I felt that their menu orders are much better tasting than their buffet items. In this visit, we ordered Dahi Ke Kabab in addition to the buffet and were disappointed there too. The curd was sour and chutneys were brought much later.
In total I feel they are a good $$$ category restaurant for evenings/dates, but average $$ offering for lunch buffets. Their ambience and service politeness were high quality and I would still recommend the place but not for their buffets.
Excellent buffet! I came here with a client for lunch. I had forgotten that it was a buffet at lunch. The food was phenomenal, really tasty.
Run of the mill food an definitely overpriced. Ok but not compelling service experience. Good ambiance. Clean facilities.
As I have just discussed with the manager, there is no reason to order sea bass anywhere else. The chef treats the sea bass with respect and properly prepares this delicate fish. The flavors from the marinade are divine, and the delicate texture is not lost in the clay oven.
The service is impeccable. Nothing more about that needs to be said.
Extremely loud place. No music. Worst service I ever received in a fine dining restaurant. Food was served without cutlery. And we had to ask for everything one by one - first silverware, then napkins and then water. We left after appetizers.
We arrived at 5:30 and there were very few patrons. We were seated quickly. Our orders were taken promptly and courteously. Our food arrived as expected and was delicious.
My daughter’s birthday. She loves Indian food, and she was really impressed with the food. Very delicious!
Food was really excellent - nice variety and not too heavy
Food was very average. We ordered vegetarian paneer curry with rice and raitha. All items were very average for that high price.
Very good overall
Only complaint is that the sea bass curry we used to enjoy had been changed to a mango / fish curry - still good but the fish not as delicate or enjoyable as before
