Bombay Fish Masala
sea bass chunks, onion, chilies
Wonderful food and service. We chose an outdoor table and it was very busy on the sidewalk on Friday night. We thoroughly enjoyed.
The daal had small stones in it.
Phenomenal meal. Food and service were spectacular!
The best good quality of any Indian buffet in the Bay Area. Fish is crispy with a very thin layer of coating that make sure you are eating fish rather than a crispy fatty coating . So many dishes that are not on ala-carte menu but taste great! Chaat is very authentic and fresh. Best at all - price tag comes so reasonable that is half of their spa-carte price per person . Got to be back soon
The main meal didn’t have much of a flavor or salt in it. Kind of disappointing.
Good food and service
Extremely over-priced. Very ordinary food. Drinks menu is solid.
Chef is from Kolkata of India. He is young and talented . Cooked a Bengali fish curry not on the menu. Brilliant ! He chatted with us a few times, very observant and gifted us extra nasals tea and rice and desert. The General Manager has an amazing attitude to life. They make me enjoyed the meal thoroughly
I haven’t been to Ambar Santana Row for a few years (I used to live on the Row so ate there regularly) and was severely disappointed. Something was off the whole evening. Service was strange, distant, and not that helpful (they tried to take plates away while we were still eating it and it was left in the basket), and most importantly, the food was bad (lamb chops way over done, parantha raw/under cooked, etc). I spoke to the manager who said I should have told them I didn’t want the lamb overdone ?!? I was not asked when I ordered nor have I ever been to a restaurant where the norm is over cooking meat. The manager gave us a small discount (not as much as even one of the dishes we ordered but I think he thought that was the way to handle the situation).
I dine out a fair amount and was pretty disappointed. Will not be back.
The food is outstanding. The best Indian food for me in the Bay Area. Service is fast too.
The food was marginal and the shrimp dish tasted bad. We didn't eat and they kindly took it off the bill. The butter chicken was ok, but overall not a great meal for two and $125.
So bad that I and my friend fell sick !
The food was delicious. The butter chicken was particularly good. The service was excellent and very attentive. We sat outside on a b beautiful day.
Great staff and servers
The staff was friendly and accomodating. The food was OK but not worth the exorbitant prices.
Amazing food and service!
An upscale eatery, serving traditional Indian dishes, all exquisitely prepared using the freshest, premium ingredients. You really can taste the difference, when compared to many other south asian restaurants. Cocktails are also quite good. Decor and overall ambience is pleasantly original and avoids ethnic excesses. I've found it quite impossible to find and try anything on the menu that isn't sumptuous.
There must be a new cook because the food did not taste the same as before. For appetizers, we ordered gobi manchurian which was good, but the paneer tikka was hard in many places, like it was old and had been microwaved many times. For the main course, the nutty mini eggplant was not as expected. The gravy was too sweet and the eggplant was the big sized sliced and fried -we sent it back. The sea bass used to be grilled in foil and the texture was soft and buttery and the spices would soak all the way into the fish. This sea bas was awful-it was fried and very fishy-you couldn’t taste any spices inside. And for some reason, it came with a side of ravioli. The ravioli wasn’t bad-just not what I was expecting at an Indian restaurant. The tandoori chicken was a few days old and had an aftertaste of meat that was cooked a few days ago. The saag paneer and Chole were decent, and so was the garlic naan.
The food was great but inside the dining room it isn’t that great of an ambience compared to other Santana Row restaurants.
The furniture looks a bit tired as do the menus. The food was excellent though and what keeps me going back!
Pretty disappointed in setting a reservation here - had come for anniversary (was surprised by how shoddy/very-unlike Santana Row the ambience was) and had requested a small surprise, but that seemed to have gotten lost. Table was uncomfortable as well.
Only saving grace was that the food was good
Pre-Covid19, we and our friends would regularly dine at Amber India. We were happy to taste some of our favorites once again! As my husband said, "It was as if the chef was cooking especially for us!" The favors and spices were bright and fresh and the naan was pillowy and soft. We plan to go to Amber India again soon!
Great food. Fantastic service. Feels like a family restaurant.
Amber was always one of our go to places and we were ok with the higher than average prices due to good service and great food.
However, their pricing has significantly risen over the past year and the food quality in my opinion has dropped. Dinner for 2 with 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and a few drinks cost $200!
This was an outstanding establishment— the food was amazing, the service was good and well-timed, and I liked the option to eat inside or outside. My group and I had trouble finding parking so we were late to our reservation and they still graciously held it for us. No complaints at all!
There was one person waiting the tables, so as the profession suggests, we had to wait. Quite a bit. I had to sand up and go to the counter to deliver the credit card or I would be writing this message on my smartphone, seated at Amber India. The chicken Vindaloo was OK, my friend indicated her curry (I believe chicken masala) was too bland. I think this place has seen better times. Won't return unless I read convincing contemporaneous, positive reviews.
Service was so delayed for our order and even to get the bill it took more than 10 minutes
Terrific service and typically great food at Amber.
It was my mother’s 92nd birthday. It was mentioned in the reservation & repeated during seating. Nothing done.
Chicken Masala was truly awful. Tasted like a can of tomato soup was poured on the chicken with no seasoning, ate very little. Not worth the price. We were seated near the bar area, there was loud music coming out of a radio sitting on the bar, not intended for the customers. Won’t be going back in the near future.
I have eaten there many times before but the menu has changed since the pandemic. It was very quiet and we didn’t eat outside because it was too sunny. The food was very dry. They gave us two sauces but they were so spicy, they were very hard to use. If you like spicy food Amber is the place to go. However the food itself was not very spicySo that was good.
Menu was limited, food was dry, and definitely lacked flavor.
By far the worst Indian restaurant
The food was pretty good! I had been to the Amber in SF and the ambience wasn't as nice at this one, but the food and service made up for it.
Nice food, good service but can be better. Not enough waiters
Food was very overpriced. Quality and service was not good at all. We had to keep chasing for service. In the past service and food use to be really good
The food is very bland and suited more for Non Indian taste.
Great food as always. We have always loved restaurant dining but outside was also fun.
Amazing food and service. We arrived late but still got a table with help from the front desk.
Outdoor seating was funky with no umbrellas and ineffectual heaters (flames were pretty but most heat radiated up.) Light drizzle began and turned a night out to take out.
They did the best they could not n Covid. Excellent food. Fantastic service.
