Rooftop is brilliant. Interior is brilliant. Service is not terrible. But the place feels like it was created by someone who used to work in a theme park: the restaurant is always full of large parties (45th birthday, bachelorette, 21 birthday all while we were there). A photographer walks around taking group photos. You can't sit at your reserved table until everyone is there (even though you are the first person on the entire rooftop). The restaurant week menu is only served inside (but sorry the inside staff has gone home for the day so you can't really eat inside?) -- cocktails are $20+ apiece. Every dish has a lobster add-on (note: if you add on the lobster to the pasta you'll get the meat of one claw plus the inside meat of all the legs--there's almost a poetry to the parsimonious decision making here) No bread on the tables. Even the water feels rationed. But there is always someone around to upsell you on the next course or to refill your glass from the bottle of wine you bought. So - yeah - it's a great place to take your out of town tourist friends to prove that NYC is pretty, but would I recommend it to a true foodie? Not unless it was her 45th birthday and she wanted to get loud.
Overall, it's nice spot throw a sweet 16 or for tourists to visit but as locals, this is a spot you go to just out of curiosity once and never again. The drinks are overpriced and taste batch made. The kitchen messed up our order but they were nice about it and apologetic. However, my dish tasted bland and the other dish, lobster salad, was a bit rubbery and tasted old. They did pile on the lobster, which was surprising, but it made sense once you realize they're likely trying to move old product out of the kitchen before it spoils.
Beautiful setting and the service was great!!! Appetizers were good - pizza, meatball, Caesar salad. Entrees were mostly inedible - ravioli, Branzino, salmon. Would actually go back just for the setting!
It was an amazing experience & staff was great!
The food and drinks were amazing. Service was a bit cold but I had a wonderful time.
Loved the floral views however our waitress was awful. It took her 30-40 mins to even pass by our table which I waved her down to ask if we could put drinks in a while. While she stopped to take our drink order we figured we would put our food in as well seeing that other tables near us that sat after us had been serviced already. After getting our drinks she never returned to make sure everything was ok. I’m sure you can imagine the rest of our service with her did not continue in a great direction. Food was nothing memorable and we made sure to order the most expensive dishes as well as the gnocchi with lobster being that they “specialize” in gnocchi. It was Subpar at best but the restaurant decor was adorable.
Our meals were EXCELLENT and a great value; the outdoor-rooftop dining was fantastic. It was a beautiful evening to dine at Ampia and the ambience was amazing. There are definitely more trendy parts of the city to dine, but we would not hesitate to dine there again. We very nearly went back the following night we liked it so much to try other items on the menu.
Receptionist downstairs when we first enter was not very welcoming almost made us want to leave. No personality what so ever.
wasn’t treated respectfully by our waiter the rest of the staff was nice but he really was not friendly or kind….restaurant is very beautiful though and the food was tasty. Just wish we had better service and some music so we didn’t feel like we had to whisper
10/10 would go again
Great service, nice view, and awesome drinks!
Fantastic experience! Had a party for 14 outside and an indoor group of 4 at the same time. The service was excellent, everyone was so accommodating. The food was above expectations, great variety! The setting was really beautiful. Charming and festive in the outdoor roof space and sleek and elegant in the inside restaurant.
It was absolutely beautiful. The service was amazing! The waitress (who I wish I remembered her name because she was great. I do remember she had a Italian accent) and there was another server who was constantly seeing if we where okay and if we needed bread or anything. We went for my Grandma’s birthday, we asked for a dessert so we could sing her happy birthday song and they offered us from the dessert options and we picked cheesecake. Everything was so delicious I even got from my mother’s plate. Only downside is it’s a bit pricey but for the occasion I didn’t mind as much. Everyone was so friendly. I would definitely come again if I find myself at New York! O
The dining room is beautiful but they were only seating on the rooftop which is decorated sort of shabby chic. The food was good, but very pricey.
Decent experience, is not exactly a rooftop since it’s on a lower floor but had a nice vibe
Shockingly poor food, very pretty place for drinks
The rooftop is instagram-ready, surrounded in flowers and skyscrapers and sky, how can you miss? The night we were there, no fewer than four parties over 8 people were hosting riotous large-table celebrations (including staff singing happy birthday to one of them). The music was up loud enough to blend with the cacophony. (people watching is genius in this place that aches to be a romantic destination) This is a place that has been discovered by bachelorettes. The decor is contemporary and fun. The Staff is nice but seems to have hands tied (don't expect bread at your table, it's not that kind of Italian hospitality--more like the club that hopes to turn you away at the door if you're not B-list at least) oh sorry - is there food at this location-destination? Yes, there is. The pasta is delicious. But if you want cheese or pepper feel free to ask for it. Eventually it will come (with a quizzical look, like, why haven't you had enough alcohol to render the food irrelevant?). My lobster fettucini ($24+$12) was a large portion of fettucini with lots and lots of lobster leg meat and one portion of claw meat. Do I recommend the place? With a very hearty "Yes, but."
Amazing! Food was good, service was amazing & the atmosphere was outstanding. We were on the rooftop & it was great. Peach sangria was great
crazy judgy girls everywhere
Best restaurant in NYC highly recommend it
The aesthetics are beautiful and girly, perfect place to go with best friends or mom or even on a date. Food was delicious my husband ordered the Alfredo with chicken the flavor was delicious, the meatballs were delicious as well. Service was great and the atmosphere was lovely, definitely a place to visit. Definitely an Instagrammable place lol .
Ampia is a nice rooftop for drinks and apps but the food is very okay, average.
The food was mediocre as was the service. But the worst part was the scene. Loud music. Women dressed like they were going to a club. Not a date night spot at all!
Ordered pitcher of sangria and more than half the pitcher was filled with ice. For $75 dollars not worth it. Party of 4 and we couldn’t even get a second glass cause it was watery. Food was ok. Service was lacking.
Food and drinks were amazing....unfortunately the service lacked
They provide extremely small portions but the ambiance is great.
Everything was great. I will recommend this place.
Food was good, drinks were strong and service was great
I waited 5 months to make this reservations for my fiancé for her 40th birthday. We arrived late yes coming from upstate New York due to traffic but once we arrived we sat at a table that was not requested for a romantic table and never got it, I even stated it when I made a request on opentable and when I called…It was my fiancé birthday and I was hoping that the servers or the hostess would read or acknowledge the request and still when it came to time after dinner I never got a cake with a candle.
I’m sure you guys will read this review now. We sat next to a loud party in the middle of the roof, when 5 months prior I requested for something romantic. Food was great drinks was great view is nice but just wasn’t too happy with my request. 👎🏼 the excuse was that it was “Saturday”. I made reservations long time ago. Poor poor poor excuse.
The place is nice and the view with all the buildings around is beautiful. The food was good but not exceptional. The age of the customers is 20/30 ish.
It was crowded and noisy. Overall was nice.
Everything was great minus having to flag the waitress down who seemed to have blinders on. Otherwise, we’ll be back
Second time here. Still love it! Great food and ambiance!
We ordered truffled pizza for appetizer it was wonderful ! On the other hand the gnocchi with grated truffle , it did not taste like truffle 🤔
Amazing food, service and atmosphere! You have to come here
My bday. It was amazing. The view, the ambiance, the service, the food all absolutely exquisite! Will be coming back soon
Beautiful ambiance..very creative. The view if the buildings are amazing. We had perfect weather. My cocktail was perfect. But pricey. The menu is a diverse selection.
This joint is a total, shameless scam and cash grab. A squat, mundane converted office building temporarily bedecked in just enough brightly-colored murals, fake flowers, and flashes of hot pink to successfully market on TikTok and Instagram, inedible food here—think supermarket-grade pre-made ravioli (with a hair in it), flavorless and lukewarm $34 "Branzino" quite obviously from a chafing dish, served with two misshapen and severely undercooked shrimp and set atop yesterday's coagulated brown sauce—commands prices that would get you an excellent meal in virtually any other downtown neighborhood.
Signature cocktails could've come out of a frathouse basement, save for the fact they aren't served in Solo cups: watered-down white sangria with a trio of blueberries floating atop a surplus of ice, Mezcal margaritas (how original!) designed to drive margin at the expense of your dignity, etc. . .
The only plus here might just be the novelty of rooftop drinking in FiDi, and maybe the diversity of creative outfits worn by a certain cohort of guests—the kind who like to be separated from their cash and quickly, not knowing any better.
Unless you're an anthropologist with no self-respect, the tasteful move is to avoid.
Everything was great!
We will absolutely be back!
Honestly the worst restaurant I’ve eaten at in NYC, period. After calling ahead to make sure we would be seated with a view and being assured that all rooftop tables had a view, we were still somehow seated in an enclosure with no view and no availability to move. The food and service were terrible, we probably saw our waiter for a total of 30 seconds the whole evening, and the food tasted like microwave meals. The only possible appeal of this place is the “Instagrammable” decor? and? photo booth? (should be a red flag if your restaurant has a photo booth). The restrooms also had no hand soap or paper towels, it felt like a construction site. Olive Garden would be a better choice, this place is overhyped and overpriced.
