Anchor and Hope
Great service. Excellent food.
The Seahorse plateaux tasted very fresh & the Brussels sprouts were seasoned well! The restaurant is a bit drafty for a fall night. There are large old skylights and not much for insulation, judging by the exposed wooden structure.
Best tuna tartare I have ever had , great cocktails, lovely, hip casual environment. Great service -highly recommend.
Very good sea food. We loved the chowder. It's a great value for the price of the neighborhood
Very enjoyable place to appreciate deliciously prepared food in a very rustic and original setting. Just a short walk away from our hotel, we were greeting with a smile. Sat immediately at a cute table. They are all rustic looking wool and such.
The chef accommodated a special request to have some portions of our items grilled ( amazing chorizo butter). The crab Louie salad was fresh and clean. A normally would like more dressing and pepper, but the delicate salad needed nothing but the simple elegance of the flavors the chef designed.
A non tourist place, would go again.
Service was outstanding. Food was underwhelming. House made tots were undercooked, bland. Bread pudding not good at all. All other dishes were just ok.
Excellent location for a business lunch or out with friends.
Very unique setting and good food.
Looked good from the outside but the food was truly poor. The raw bar experience was very disappointing and outrageously priced. The clams were miniature and more sand or shell bits than meat. Deep fried canned sardines were called fried anchovies. Truly greasy and awful. Our server showed good poise in the face of my incredulity. Not sure how this place flourishes in San Francisco.
I love this place for seafood!! The anchovy appetizer was outstanding and all the other dishes were well-prepared too. I recommend this place for anyone who enjoys fresh seafood.
Fantastic oysters, fried anchovies, roasted tomatoes, whole grilled fish, pork belly(!), and desserts. Great meal, good things to share.
Way too noisy. Very slow service. We sat at bar where it’s less noisy and felt mostly ignored by wait staff.
Shrimp tacos too soggy with 1 thin, soft tortilla. Clams came without bread had to ask for bread which took 10+ minutes to grill and serve.
Dropped in for some oysters and lunch! I usually go with something sparkling- but had a Pink Lady cocktail that was just divine. The oysters were of very good quality with very similar flavor profiles- crisp clean finishes, sweet to mildly briny, good size, excellently shucked. Would Oyster again. The staff was attentive and charming.
Best shrimp cocktail, great service, great atmosphere for business meetings
Have always enjoyed Anchor and Hope, but they seem to recently have changed their menu. Lobster Rolls used to be a main dish and now relegated to “share” section. Fortunately waitress suggested I order two which sated my lobster roll needs, but really preferred old menu.
Waiter tried flirting with my date and ignored us, so we left. Terrible experience.
Our service was rushed and the quality was lacking for the high amount per order.
Disappointing at best. Expensive with little payoff. The service was friendly but sparse. Definite pass.
First time here. Staff was great. A tad on the noisy side. $17 for glass of wine was a bit much in my view but was a good pour and a nice wine. Check out grilled heirloom tomatoes with goat cheese....so so good! Raw clams were hit or miss as far as some tasting rather fishy while others were not. I would go back again though and try some other items from raw bar.
We each had the lobster rolls, mostly bread with very little lobster. I believe it was langostino lobster - small tough pieces. We won’t be back.
We had a reservation ON LINE but ended up waiting for about 30 minutes, so whats the use of reserving at a certain timeframe?
Seafood plate was very tasty and everything was fresh. Service was very good. Great wine list.
The air conditioning was not working, it was so hot, they just had one fan for all the place.
The king salmon was not fresh, it tasted like frozen and it was hard. When it arrived was almost raw and we sent it back, after that it was over cooked
We loved this place but yesterday was not a good experience
Loved the restaurant location and the brick walls and high ceiling. The lobster roll and crab cake appetizers were nice. I really liked my steamed clams entree and ended up ordering some french fries to help me with the tasty broth. My brother enjoyed the salmon but I think he felt it was 'unremarkable' in a sturdy dinner kind of pleasantly edible dinner... Service was excellent.
Service and food here have always been wonderful, and tonight did not disappoint.
Absolutely delicious seafood in SF with a cool vibe. Would recommend to anyone, we had a great time.
Our server was not attentive. Felt like I was having to chase her down.
This is a great place for a quick team lunch or intimate dinner. I have been here for both and their menu, service, and ambiance have provided both. You should definitely make reservations if you are going to have more than 2 people. This place packs up at lunch from 11-2.
Have dined at A&H before without disappointment but doubt ai will return. On this more recent Saturday evening, the service missed the mark over and over. Drink orders took so long, then arrived for only 2 of us. Had to ask repeatedly for additional drink we had ordered. Then randomly a drink appeared that we had not ordered later in the meal. Yet when we ordered after dinner drinks and coffee, the coffee never arrived. Just sloppy service all around. The food was not good enough to make up for the service. Very lackluster appetizers and mains and a pretty disappointing dining experience all around.
The place was extremely hot and made all of my guests uncomfortable throughout dinner. Portions were small for the price
A very casual place to have really tasty oysters, some very good wines by the glass and yummy chowders. Service was super friendly, and the whole place felt very familiar and comfortable.
Great food but quite noisy.
We had a great time for a birthday celebration with friends. Our server (Sarah) was spot on attentive. Food was outstanding. Negatives: Calamari was a little leathery, but otherwise tasty.
This a well appointed restaurant, redesigned cleverly from an old garage, hidden away in downtown. Our reservation was honored and prompt and seating is comfortable. We started the evening with an amazing selection of oysters on the half-shell paired with a lovely French Crement Rose. There seemed to be only one server on the floor with several assistants so service was a bit sketchy. The petrale sole was slightly overcooked but the steamed mussels were fine. My recommendation? Go for the oysters and bubbles!
Great lunch, took a friend for his birthday. Loved the lobster salad!
Cracking venue, great experience, would recommend
Meh. Food was ok. Maybe nicer to not sit in the corner of the restaurant, should have thought about that when making reso.
Overall would recommend for dinner, as ceviche app., salmon and ribeye were good, but was not cheap and service was slow especially to start. The service was '15% tip', not '20%'. Other menu items liked good too, like clams etc.
