Angler San Francisco
very expensive , over sauced and poor service
Great food and drinks.
There we 3 of use for a special evening out. All of us WILL NOT go back. We were not happy with many things that should have been better. Overall rating - over priced for what you experience.
1. Ambiance, Background Music - not enjoyable and too loud. Expected better.
2. Ambiance - It is not that warm or friendly or especially beautiful, maybe not supposed to be since animals on the wall.
3. No table clothes, Table not set - just grab utensils from cup on table. Just doesn't make sense for fine dining. However, View of the bay bridge is nice.
4. Menu - We tried lots - sole, potato, herb salad, eggplant and heirloom tomato plus 2 desserts (tart and sundae), but still hungry. All delicious, but portions are very small, not generous. Also the bread and butter should be provided, should not need to order/pay extra for it.
5. Staff is friendly and efficient, but shared menu items are removed too quickly and would have been helpful to have around since the overall meal was not too filling. Could have grabbed a few more pieces of lettuce.
6. Bathrooms are unique and warmed toilet seats - but both times used, out of TP. Need a replenishing system.
Currently the Best restaurant in the Bay Area.
What an amazing experience having dinner at Angler in SF. A MUST try for any foodies out there.
View from our seats was excellent as we looked at the water and the bridge. Service was top notch. Highly recommend the scallops and the radicchio salad. The bass was also tasty.
This was the most fun innovative place we ate lunch at in San Francisco. Totally amazing food preparations. Very exotic menu; extremely overpriced but well worth the visit. Wine list was 100+ pages long; mostly Pinot Noirs.
Going once a month from now on. Amazing
Food cooked to perfection with amazing flavors. Bravo!
The 80s soundtrack got old. And was the same songs as when I visited in April. Would love better music that is less overwhelming. Food & service exceptional.
Some of the best food in San Francisco with views of the Bay to match. Impeccable service, incredible wine list. Cannot ask for more.
The meal, service, and setting were absolutely exceptional.
Great views, cool place, but very pricey. we could have shared a one meal and cut back on extras. Everything tasted delicious though.
it was amazing
service food decor
We went here for our anniversary and it wasn’t a great experience at all. This place showed such big promise but sadly it fell short in every possible way. The noise level was so high that I could barely hear the table conversation. The waiter was barely around and got several things wrong with the order. We had still water, and were refilled with sparkling. The Fried Quail sounded amazing in concept but it was greasy and mostly batter (barely any meat at all. The swordfish was very rubbery and cooked improperly. The dessert selection was dull and uninteresting. I also though it was strange for a seafood specialty restaurant to have Bear, elk, deer and other busts mounted on the wall. Seems very un-SF and tone deaf. Prices are unusual high for the value of the food and service received. We will not be back. We will not tell others to try it. There are so many better options in SF and LA. 🤙
All details were attended to. The food was delicious & beautiful, the space was pleasant & servers were friendly, knowledgeable & professional. I’d like to go with a large group so I could try more ☺️
What a fun dining experience! And the service was beyond incredible! Hoping we can make it back in tomorrow before our flight, it was THAT good! Don’t miss the potato or the sundae! Such fun choices! Thank you for an incredible last night in San Fran!
Creative, delicious, attentive service
The service was great and every dish we had was excellent. The chicken was the best I’ve ever had, and surpassed Zuni’s. I could’ve done without the stuffed animals on the wall and the music choice was a little odd, but thankfully not too loud.
Excellent service and decor. Great for special occasion or date. High quality food. Excellent wine list. Highly recommend.
First time at Angler. Service and food were superb. Great view. Kind staff. Highly recommend.
I get super excited to try new, trendy restaurants in SF and I was so looking forward to going to Angler. The setting and ambiance did not disappoint me. The menu choices were pretty good - with some creativity and unique items (which I look for and enjoy, especially in new high-end restaurants). However, the rest of our dining experience was SO upsetting.
1) The service was chaotic - appetizers were rushed - main courses were served while we were still enjoying our starters. This lead to us trying to finish the appetizers quickly and the courses getting cold. Also, when we ordered the steak, we were not asked how we would like it cooked - it came pretty much rare and we had to send it back to the kitchen.
2) We asked for help with wine selection - the sommelier had a major attitude and was not showing us much respect with the options he was giving us. It was obvious that he was mostly interested in "selling" then in giving us the right attention and wine pairing experience. Plus, the wine service was not very in sync with our food.
I really hope that the restaurant will consider this constructive feedback and use it to improve things - Although the food was tasty, I am sad to say that for now, I will not plan to go back nor would I recommend it to anyone.
The food was disappointing compared to my last visit. We had the whole grilled sole. It as cooked on a very hot fire and was totally overcooked and dry. Last time i had the sole it was gently grilled and spectacular. The starters were good and the mushroom dish was great.
They seem to have become a steakhouse judging from what others were ordering and how the grills were managed. Not at all the original plan. A big loss to the bay area.
One of my best meals out EVER!!!
Our son-in-law's favorite restaurant in San Francisco where he comes for business frequently. He fortunately is on an expense account.
Beautiful restaurant overlooking the wharf. Very limited menu, An amazing wine list, one of the best I have seen any where in the world. Rivals Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa which has one of the best wine lists.
We skipped starters and had the Whole Petrale Sole for $50 to share, filleted at the table by our waiter Zachery who was great.
Decided to try 3 of the vegetables sides, $15 each. Angler potato was sliced and deep fried whole, superb. Embered ruby beets with Gremolata style topping. And an eggplant terrine., also very good.
Amazing food and impeccable service! Delicious salad, potato in cream sauce was fabulous and the scallops were perfect. In fact every dish we ordered exceeded expectations. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
I was so looking forward to dinner with a friend here. Both of us were celebrating different things. So, my fault for not realizing how pricey this place is, and I eat out in SF a lot, so I'm not exactly unaccustomed to high prices. But scallops $14 per? The 'lobster roll' for something like $245 and the aged ribeye for about $165? And our server telling us that all dishes are designed to share and we were expected to order 5-7 per person? And while the sommelier and one of our male servers were both kind and helpful, the woman who was our main server was just awful. If this place lasts, it says more about how willing we are to throw our money away than about the quality of this place. Bottom line: do not bother.
Love the look of the restaurant. Menu prices and service style is over the top. Very pretentious and awkward at time. They try way too hard, the fall short on the execution. Also, the classic food is very simple and even though I like simply prepared dishes: the $46 bass was a joke.
The food was excellent as always, but service was unexpectedly horrible. No attention to the diners despite having such a large number of staff. Wouldn’t recommend the place after this last visit.
They have some creative, decent dishes and the restaurant itself is quite nice. Where it was disappointing for my experience was the service. We had to ask for the bread three times before it finally came out. We ordered it with the rest of our food but it was the last to come out. Additionally, we had ordered a bottle of sparkling and we had to wait a good 15 minutes until someone came and filled our empty glasses. I would have filled my own glass if it didn't seem unusual to just grab the bottle from the ice bucket.
We had a great experience at Angler, and we're both very happy that we chose it for our 1st anniversary dinner. We both loved our table, the music, and the ambiance. My boyfriend is a bit of a picky eater at fine dining places, but we both agreed the food was phenomenal. Our only complaint was that we felt we had to wait a long time until someone came to take our order. Also, the music was just a tiny bit too loud.
We're looking forward to coming again.
When your food is interesting and novel but not necessarily tasty, you have missed the mark. The decor is again interesting but the vibe does not match the servers in black suits. The tables were also too wide, making it hard to converse with those across the table. The scale (oversized tables, oversized menus, etc) was off from a decor perspective. I did love seeing the open kitchen with the wood fire ovens (delicious smoke wafting through the air). But the smoke was only notable in two dishes (heirloom tomato and smoky caramel sauce on the soft serve). Overall, I would not recommend, especially at the price point. There are too many amazing restaurant to choose over this one. Favorite dishes included the Parker rolls and previously mentioned tomato and soft serve (not a good sign when your favorites are starters, sides or desserts). Quail, petrale sole, and potato were just ok.
The food was very disappointing.
the food is good though there are only a few items to select from. The pricing is ridicules!
it is really does not worth it!
Rolls w butter, big eye tuna, radicchio salad, dessert sundae all excellent. Scallops best we’ve ever had but should include roe as an option. Lost a star because of fish entree - the skin on the whole sole was not at all crisp and flavor not outstanding. A disappointment because the whole flounder we had last time here was excellent.
Food is extremely fresh -- oysters amazing, simple salad was excellent! I was not particularly impressed with the preparation of the cooked fish. Bland and unimaginative flavors.
Biggest complaint is that the food was insanely expensive.
Really great seafood restaurant with amazing views of the bay. Everything we ordered was very good.
the server was very aggressive and the food was just OK, i think it was overpriced
