ASA - South - Los Gatos
CARLA YOU ROCK!
Solid first experience. Will recommend to friends and come back again.

All the flavors we loved from the Basin but amplified, and nice fresh additions to the menu. Gorgeous decor, wonderful service, and the food is impeccable. Adore this place.
Amazing food and service!!
We enjoyed a lovely evening with friends on a Saturday evening at ASA.
The food was very nice. We liked the newly remodeled restaurant.
It’s a convenient location and parking was easy. The wait staff is excellent!
As a special treat, Andrew, the owner was there during our dinner and it was nice to catch up with him since he is no longer the owner of The Basin in Saratoga where we had known him for quite a few years. We always enjoy talking to him and he always makes sure that we are well served.
We went to ASA Los Gatos on a Friday night for a birthday dinner at 8:15pm. The restaurant was full & we were seated right away. Service was great from the start as were our cocktails, appetizers & dinner. We love what Andrew has brought to Los Gatos & look forward to many great meals & celebrations at ASA.
ASA Los Gatos has hit their stride. Pork chop, Dungeness crab pasta and liver/onions were all top notch.
the salad portions were very small, not too many ingredients in a $25 salad.
poor presentation of the food , lack of attention from the waiter.
Restaurant manager was nice and attentive. Did not care for the quality of the food!
This was the first time I had lunch at ASA in Los Gatos. My husband ordered the PPP which was like a large empanada filled with bbq pork. He said it was just ok, looked overcooked. The ladies at the next table were complaining about their quiche. However, my friend and I ordered the steak and fries. Probably the finest example of this that I have ever ordered for lunch. The steaks were very tender and cooked to perfection. I would definitely go back for steak at lunch.
Almost $100 for lunch for 2 without alcohol is too expensive. The salad had no dressing and I had to ask for dressing. When it came it wasn't in a pitcher nor with a spoon. Less interesting than the salad I make every night from my own garden, lettuce julienne carrots and a few slices of cucumber. When the specials were told to us the prices weren't given. When I arrived I was asked if sparking water or regular and I wasn't told the cost of sparkling water. Most places include a birthday dessert and often add a candle for festivity. No value at half the cost.
We had an excellent family celebration at ASA! The service was great and food was outstanding!!!
Intimate venue; bit loud.
Food overall was fantastic! A very great addition to the Los Gatos dining scene
The environment is very "cool", more of a big city feel than suburban Los Gatos, and enjoyable but very loud because of the hard surfaced walls and ceiling. The food was creative and very tasty but the kitchen was slow, both with first courses and main courses--perhaps because of a busy Friday evening. And my chicken dish not particularly hot, served just above room temperature. Wine prices, by the glass and bottle were quite expensive, The hostess, waitstaff and others were excellent, and vey customer focused. Overall the 4 of us enjoyed the evening, even though conversation at times was difficult to hear across the table. We will return to see if it was just an off night for the kitchen's timing and efficiency.
Great experience in the patio. Delicious food, excellent service, definitely coming back here!
Ambiance is welcoming, food and service excellent as always. We have yet to visit Asa-North in Los Altos, but Andrew has really done an excellent job with this restaurant.
I have tried both locations and for my taste some recipes don’t hit the mark. One entree in Los Altos had the strangest duck , flavor and texture, and was inedible. In LG I had a fish dish w/ many elements, each of which were fine individually, but the flavors of which didn’t blend making it thoroughly unenjoysble. Other dishes we had at both places were fine, but I’ll not take my chances there again.
Utterly reliable for a special dinner
Excellent service. A carefully thought out menu that showcases the best of the best (sustainable fish, amazing cuts of steak, etc.) with a twist of creativity. Beautiful wines. A great neighborhood vibe. As soon as you walk in, you forget that the restaurant is next to a Best Western (so, easy to find), and NOT parking in downtown Los Gatos is also a big plus.
Wonderful dining spot.......Andrew has done it AGAIN!
Excellent food and service. Dont let the location fool you...next to a cheap best western motel. The interesting decor and sophisticated without being snooty ambience are both a contrast to the outside surroundings, not downtown but right off hwy 17. Spare rib appetizer was so-so, not bad but not particularly memorable. Plain compared to our other choices. The bowl of clams and the anchovy bread were great, creamy and salty in proportion, and good compliments to each other. The exotic mushroom pasta and the special fried oyster caesar salad were both outstanding, tasty and perfectly prepared. Dessert: coconut cake “like tres leches” but better, was light n fluffy, and the mixed berry crumble was piping hot, fruity and crunchy. Wine list b the glass is not robust, mixed drinks seemed a better option. A definite repeater!
We were disappointed with the food. Found it lacking in flavor.
This place is wonderful. The staff is friendly and honestly want to make it an enjoyable experience. The food is amazing. I think I could order all the appetizers and pair it with all their wine by the glass and have a spectacular dinner.
Great food, great host, great night!
We bumped into friends, who joined us at our table for a delicious Rioja—the staff could not have been more accommodating
Best “foodie” spot in LG. We’re quickly becoming regulars!
We had a great experience. Itvwas our first visit to ASA.
Fabulous experience. We chose to sit in the rear area. The Brooklyn cocktail (close to Manhattan!) was excellent. A salad special was a chopped Caeser with the option of fried oysters subbing for the crourons--yes! The Rainbow Trout was brilliantly executed. We chose to share the only gluten free dessert option, the adult ice cream, repeating the Manhattan theme.
Sarah was the perfect server. Will surely return soon, and would so appreciate expanded lunch hours.
Iike ASA both in Los Altos and Los Gatos.
Great experience! I had been wanting to come here for months and definitely wasn’t disappointed. Everything was amazing
Asa is definitely becoming our favorite restaurant. We have a date night every Thursday and have tried many restaurants in Los Gatos and Asa is as indicated becoming our best choice.
As we walked in the host looked like a guest, he was dressed so poorly for someone who is representing the restaurant. The food was good, however I was very disappointed that I was charged $11 for a side of anchovies for the Caesar salad that cost $18. My salad ended up costing $29 not worth it. That left a very bad impression on my experience.
If I was basing my review solely on the quality of the food it would definitely be a five. The slow and inconsistent service makes it impossible for me to give a higher rating
Food is fantastic and it is very quiet compared to other nice restaurants
a definite repeat. very good server. smallish, but good variety menu. noisy when full. attractive minimalist décor. small restaurant with a very attractive bar area. beet salad, chicken, enormous boneless pork chop were all excellent. pricey but solid wine list. corkage waved if you buy something off wine menu.
all 4 of us enjoyed the experience.
Great dining experience. First time at ASA.
Food was amazing; crab pasta and sole fish.
We started with their fresh oysters-delicious.
Service was top notch, conversational and attentive.
Will definitely return soon and recommend this restaurant to friends.
We visited ASA for the first time last night and were very happy with everything from the service to the food. The tables are a little snug, which is a bit uncomfortable, but overall, it was a great dining experience! Will definitely be back.
One of my favorite places in Los Gatos!
Our first time here. Nice ambiance/vibe. Interesting menu with something for everyone. Great bar area with complete cocktail and wine choices. My husband had the romaine salad & liver and onions which was very good. I had the sauteed clams with a beet salad...also good. Portions are just right. We will return.
AGAIN....WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!! Tried non alcoholic cocktail with cucumbers... fabulous. Ordered special Mushroom risotto with Sweetbreads, DELICIOUS! Every component was perfect. Darren our server/bartender was wonderful. Professional yet fun.
The butter lettuce salad was pure fresh delicious delight! We split it and I'm sorry as could've made a meal of it. The shrimp and grits were a disappointment. The shrimp and mushrooms were tasty, but I felt the grits were lost in way too much sauce. I felt they weren't allowed to stand on their own a bit in the dish.
Not as good as The Basin under this MGMT.
Having enjoyed a meal, with the same entree, at ASA Los Altos last November was superior. This location seems to be trying to offer more to clients than they have room for in their physicasl space. I would probably NOT return to the Los Gatos location even though it would be closer for me. Parking is a plus, but entering the restaurant amidst piled up outdoor seating is not conducive to my perception of a fine dining experience.
