Atelier - Ottawa
I became ill during the meal, had nothing to do with the restaurant and the server was very attentive to me and the restaurant did not charge for the courses I was unable to enjoy. I appreciated this. I did find the lighting a bit dark as I would have loved to see the dishes a bit better and take better pictures ;) It was a very enjoyable evening.
This was the second time at L'Atelier...the first was 10 years ago. We were impressed by each and every serving. I took the wine pairing which was just a perfect match. We fully enjoyed the experience.
Excellent service. Great celebration location. Bring your adventurous attitude and be prepared to have full evening there. Not an inexpensive night but worth it. Food is well thought out and expertly prepared.
The service was impeccable. The servers, especially Laura, and sommelier were knowledgable and took care of making sure every need was met. The food was creative and delicious. We especially loved the parsnip soup. The wine pairings were spot on and enhanced the flavors of the food. The decor was simple (not what we expected), yet clean and not overly crowded. Wonderful experience! I would recommend Atelier for any special occasion, or for tourists in town wanting an extraordinary dining experience.
Hold onto your taste buds, this place has it all going on. 12 courses and optional wine pairing with each. From the first sight of the glass terrarium with salad inside to the liquid nitrogen flash-frozen, soup "noodles", through the fish courses, to the final globe of blueberry cheesecake; this place is gastronomic heaven. 3 hours leading us through taste combinations and textures were all wonderful. A hefty price, but worth every bite. We went for one each of the wine pairings and tried 22 wines as we chose different options, which ranged from Champagne, to Bourdeaux, to Riesling, Italian, and to Niagra.
Expérience exceptionnelle, de la haute voltige culinaire.
A great experience!
Makes for a very special evening full of delicious surprises.
Absolutely phenomenal experience at Atelier for our 5th anniversary! The 12-course blind tasting menu was by far the most unique meal we’ve ever had! An incredible and extremely original combination of flavours of all types to the point that I really couldn’t describe anything I was eating in words other than being absolutely delicious! Never in my life have I tasted food like that. Highly, highly recommend!!!!
Outstanding food experience.......there's eating to live and there's living to eat...this is the latter. The range of taste sensations and experience is awesome coupled with a visual presentation that is delightful. This is a western "sushi" experience.
Alas, the acoustics in the main restaurant are awful with each table able to hear the other and each trying to speak over the other. The noise level becomes almost physical when the restaurant is full. Part of the experience is the complete and detailed description of the food and wine...our poor server was having to almost shout at times.
Our second time at Atelier and for a 12-course blind tasting experience not one dish was the same as last time - very impressive! You come to Atelier for the most inventive and curious dishes, not as much for the ambiance. In fact, we believe they may have done this intentionally to not distract from the food itself. Not at all am I saying the atmosphere is poor - but some might be a bit surprised considering the price. The food, however, is world-class! No wonder Atelier has made top 100 restaurants list of Canada - well deserved!
Service was at an all-time high and we had quite a fun time interacting with both our server and sommelier. Marc L was even generous enough to have us back to the kitchen for a meet and greet.
This time I went for the "enhanced" wine pairing option and if you're into wines I cannot recommend this enough. Some of the wines were as noteworthy (perhaps one even more so) than the food.
Atelier is a journey and an experience that everyone should try at least once.
Food is delicious and the presentation is fantastic. Great experience!
Atelier was absolutely one of the best restaurants we've ever been to. The staff and service was impeccable. My water was never empty and we never waited long for food. The food itself was an experience -- with artistic presentations and delicious flavours we've never had before. Everything was perfect and it made for a wonderful special occasion. We will definitely be back!
Delicious, interesting and fun. Expensive but worth the quality and service!
The Atelier isn't simply about great food, it is an experience, an adventure.
My third time going and certainly not the last. Creative and beautiful food, imaginative pairings, and knowledgeable and attentive service. It's no wonder it's consistently one of the best in Ottawa and Canada.
Inventive, innovative, creative, unique dining experience
tThis was a great evening for a special occasion. Thanks to all the staff for a memorable occasion.
Took my parents out for my Mother’s 75th birthday.
The service was first class, the food extraordinary and the wine pairing was an experience in itself.
We all remarked that this was probably the best meal experience we ever had, ever!
Thank you for creating a memorable evening!
The Extended wine pairing is worth every penny
Fantastic food & service.
If cost isn't a factor this place hands down is in the top 3.
It’s an experience that we’ll definitely do again. Great, knowledgeable staff. I recommend getting the wine pairings with meals, as it adds another layer to the experience. It’s not cheap, but is well worth it if you’re looking for a good night out.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. The fixed menu dinner service for our table took just over four hours, including a leisurely coffee afterwards. The food was exactingly-prepared, temperatures upon serving were as-described, and the aromas and tastes were usually excellent. However, some of the detail ingredients mentioned by the server when the dishes were presented appeared in such small quantities that at times they were impossible to distinguish, or taste.
The sommelier who handled the wine pairing was very personable and knowledgeable, providing excellent notes on each pairing. However, there seemed to be an inordinate number of sweet whites that didn’t seem to pair well with the dishes they were lined up with, and we didn’t really like three or four of the flights, at all. But, perhaps that’s just personal taste. I’m sure they have a skilled sommelier who put a lot of thought into the pairings.
It was a very nice evening overall, but for over $600 for two (including tip), it really should’ve blown our socks off, and fell short of that. However, as a one-in-a-blue-moon event for most, if made for a memorable and pleasant experience.
It was my third visit, i brought a friend there for his 30th birthday. The food was amazing and the service was awesome! I strongly recommend this place for anyone who wants to enjoy an unforgettable experience !!
This was my third time there.
I was just in Europe and ate at 2 similar places for the same money and the creativity of the good and service were much much better
The prices here have increased a bit and we were never actually shown the price before hand
Asked the waiter to explain the concept to the people I had brought and it was not really done. We googled it.
Service was way to slow. The wine would come well before the food which left us drinking it the first couple of courses and stting at it the rest of them (we did the pairing ) . It was 4.5 hours. Previously it was 3 which would have worked way better.
The quality of the food was great
Excellent creativity with different textures and presentations, always a great dining experience. Friendly staff makes sure you will want to return.
Food and service are top notch but guests from other tables are too loud.
Expectations were met. We expected a food experience and that's what we got.
We dîne often in the best restaurant we can find when out of town. A meeting brought us to Gatineau. Atelier was one of our top choices and they certainly delivered. We have dined in Michelin starred restaurants and frankly, this one is right up there with the best of them. (Comparable to Coï, in San Francisco). We had a really nice meal, and a super nice evening. Keep up the great work Atelier!!! Wow
This was our 6th time at the restaurant. Everything was excellent as usual. I took pictures of each course and show them to everyone.
Marc Lepine is a genius. His creations are works of art that thrill and surprise.
This was an absolutely amazing experience. Wonderful service. I highly recommend it.
We came here for our first time to celebrate our happy 10th anniversary, I enjoyed every moment. The food was exceptional and presented in a very artistic way, just the way I like it!
As always, Atelier made a special event truly special. This was true for the food and the service. We had such a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the surprise of the menu choices. Well done!
Delightful service, excellent extended wine pairing list and, of course, enchanting food. Definitely recommend. Very accommodating of gluten free needs as well.
Great place for special event, superior service !
we arrived and it was a great little place, the food was creative and delicious, the only issue was the quantity , we honestly left hungry and the standard wine pairing we chose was very sweet , but this was our first time and like i said , food was really good and creative , staff was really nice but just wasn't enough quantity for the ammount you pay , we pretty much ordered a pizza after the night ....
Phenomenal food and amazing service, particularly the sommelier!
Went as a group of 4 and LOVE IT! The food, the experience, the fun, the laughter....it's been a long time since I went to a restaurant and just relaxed and not rushed through everything! Can't wait to go back!
I would absolutely recommend Atelier for an amazing dining experience. We agree with other reviewers in that you should plan to have the wine pairings as well. It took things to the next level of incredible!
