Went for brunch before an afternoon show at Crows.
3 of us, each had something different, each had questions of the waiter, who was helpful and patient.
The food was delicious and the mimosas went down a treat!
Will be back, for sure
Decor is gorgeous, service is was attentive but not overbearing and the food was fresh, tasty + incredible! Will be back for sure!
A brew pub with very good food. I would go again!!!
I find that some restaurants have difficulty making a large space feel cozy but Avling did just that. It’s warm and inviting. Service was friendly and even though it was quite busy we didn’t feel rushed and they took the time to answer some questions we had about the place. The food was tasty, I had the burger and it did not disappoint. Beers are quite good, I had their Vienna lager. I would definitely go back and I have already recommended it to some friends.
This is a must try experience. The brunch was absolutely delicious! I recommend the burger :) The staff was attentive, and the atmosphere was curiously cozy and trendy. Loved the vibe. 10/10 would recommend to any and everyone! A true Toronto hidden gem!
Excellent beer, food and ambience. Very pleased with attentive service. Noise level a little high probably due to high ceiling and not PA
We were in the east end with another couple for a theatre evening close by. I'd heard good things about Avling.
The service was friendly and informative, both about the food and the beer. We all shared the Rib Eye steak, and added two veggie sides to fill out the meal. It was all delicious, and turned out to be just the right amount of food.
We loved the light and airy room, even on a dark December evening. I would definitely return to try more dishes (and beers) on a bright summer day.
Nice food. Great drinks. They left us in peace to converse, and checked in on occasion.
The ambiance was perfect for us: busy and bubbly with lots of energy and chatter around our hightop. Food was good and service was excellent. Thanks!
Beautiful space, and some very tasty beers. Also, one of the best burgers in the city!
we had a wonderful time, the 4 of us enjoyed the food, the Burgers are Great,
the service was excellent, everyone was so nice to us, thank you sam
We absolutely loved it! Informative friendly attentive service, delicious food and fun ambience. We will definitely be back and we have already recommended it to friends.
Charcuterie board should have cheese and if doesn’t the serve should tell. For $28.00 I would expect cheese.
Charcuterie platter with seasonal pickled veg is tasty.
Avling Pilsner is crisp and refreshing.
Service is friendly and fun.
Pop shop to pickup a six pack is very convenient.
This is a really cool place, beer is excellent and food is delicious. The perfect venue to spend a few hours with friends and/or family. Best to book ahead.
We are not beer people, but The food was to die for.
4 of is shared a number of things, family style.. so we got to taste a lot!
I would never normally order sausages, but when you only eat half a sausage, why not?
These were the best sausages I ever tasted... and I’m from Ireland, so I know good sausages!!
We were fighting over the baked potatoes, they were so good. But the turbot was the ‘piece de resistance’. On a bed of white beans. ... yum memorable
An overall fabulous experience - will be back soon
Four male seniors dined and drank at Avling last week. It was easy to access in a wheelchair. It rolled up to a table by the windows and could have easily gone into the main floor washroom if necessary.
Everyone enjoyed the beer. Avling have a good selection of their own products on tap. We tried at least six different ones. I liked the port; and the 3.9% lager was refreshing. The food was excellent: two orders of fish and chips, one steak and one sausage plate. The triple cooked potatoes were so good we ordered more. But, sadly the pie for dessert was not up to that standard. We’d all go back.
Fantastic place! Amazing food and delicious beer!!!!
Fantastic vibe...above average service.
We'll surely return!!
The burger is my favourite in Toronto right now - they have their own butcher in the basement.
Love trying the small 3 oz of different beer.
They grow their own veggies on the roof!
Staff are great and it’s not too expensive.
Really enjoyed our evening here with visiting UK family. The food was fantastic, portion sizes were perfect. Our server, Tamara, was lovely and made our evening a very happy one.
Had a birthday meal.
The beer has a lot of potential, service is good, steak is professional made. Shared plates are properly portioned , but single orders are too small for it’s price.
An order of a green from their rooftop costs $13 after tax (I have never paid that price in any 5 stars hotel for a side size dish). This fact will make me not going back.
The restaurant is in an old manufacturing facility which has had extensive renovation to accommodate the on-site brewing. Without much soundproofing, the noise level is rather uncomfortable making conversation difficult. This is compensated by the wonderful food, service and brews. Dishes included a turbot fish and chips plate called the "Masala Fish fry", which was cooked to perfection. The signature Buther's burger was excellent and cooked as requested. The daily sandwich was an open face sandwich with a huge mound of roast beef and a wonderful sauce. For an appetizer, we started with a turnip cake which had a too subtle turnip flavour but nice texture. Our party tried several beers, including the IPA, a stout, and a session beer. All were quite good although this writer has a preference for beers brewed with some of the European hops which have a less pronounced citrus flavour. Service was superb and very attentive.
Based on my experience, no, I wouldn't recommend Avling. I've heard others have had good experiences, though. Service was inattentive and very slow to get our first drinks. Our main courses came out separately. Food was good. Beer was OK.
A few rookie mistakes prevented a five star review. The noise level was just a tad too loud for comfortable cross table chat. And they had no crushed red pepper flakes! Our waiter rustled up a paste from the kitchen but it wasn’t particularly flavorful. Otherwise, the food was good, the beer was good, the place is clean and the decor is crisp. The staff were all lovely.
Amazing place to head for dinner. A much needed addition to the neighbourhood.
I really wanted to love this place, unfortunately we had a poor experience. The decor and ambiance is stunning and we really enjoyed the aesthetics. We ordered wine, beer and appetizers to start but that was as far as went. One of the appetizers ordered was the ploughmans platter. The bread was burnt, completely and when we informed the server they brought back a few “in house made crackers” these were not made in house as I’ve had these before from the grocery store. The replacement crackers were also completely stale. When I mentioned this to the second server she told me the bread was crostini so it should be hard, I actually had to pick up the black burnt bread and showed her how it crumbled and that we would like this off the bill. We just got our bill and decided to leave. Maybe we will go back for some drinks at the bar but that’s about all.
Great food, well prepared and tasty. Excellent beer. Good service. Good ambience.
the veggie dish was not so great (brussels sprouts were burnt on the outside and raw on the insight) The server was coming by non-stop to the point of being irritating. Love the space and the concept otherwise.
I love Avling and went twice in one week. The grilled veggie plate was amazing, also Avling has one of the best burgers I’ve had in Toronto and the spuds are a must also!
We had a great time until the manager came over, introduced himself, and asked if we’d be leaving soon because they had people coming for our table. There was no one actually there waiting, no line up and a few empty tables available. It was a bit shocking tbh because we were a party of four there for dinner and drinks and we certainly were spending money. I mentioned that we had already asked our server for the cheque but she hadn’t brought it yet. The manager said he would bring the cheque himself (eyeroll). When he did drop off the cheque it was for the table next to us and was $120 less than what we spent. We asked him for the correct tab, paid the bill and probably won’t be back
Fantastic beer and service. I just wish that the Ploughman's lunch had had a bit of cheese.
The servers were especially lovely and welcoming. We had a great waitress as she was so helpful with the menu. We ran into a few bumps during our meal but seeing that they were only open a couple of months I totally understand. We had a little bit of everything and enjoyed a tour of the rooftop garden. Love this!!Its amazing as we had just come back from Copenhagen where that’s what they are doing there. Farm to table experience in the city. We can’t wait to come back!
We stopped in at Avling between brunch and dinner on the labour day weekend. We enjoyed the cherry brevis and some amazing appetizers which included grilled vegetables from Avling’s rooftop garden and the savoury turnip cake (a favourite). The service and vibe were also excellent.
Great food, great beer, great service. Will definitely be back. Turnip cake was best thing I've had in along time!
Super enjoyed this new addition to the neighbourhood. Went with my family and our newborn son and the restaurant was super accommodating of his stroller, and had a clean and accessible washroom to change him in.
The food, beer and service were all excellent. Loved the turnip cake, steak (butcher’s special) and the sausage. Will definitely be back!
Disappointed. We booked a table through OpenTable but when we arrived we were only offered bar seating. Our two children were with us - not sure it’s appropriate to have two young kids at the bar on tall stools and watching drinks being poured all night. Is that even legal? There were empty tables reserved for others but since our reservation was bumped to the bar, couldn’t an all-adult party be swapped out for us? When offered a communal table after we pushed for a solution we took it but then realized it was also a high-top and next to a loud and belligerent group. There were things they could have done but didn’t seem to care enough. That’s when we decided to spend the evening elsewhere. They lost out on a $300 ticket and gained a negative review. Not sure if we will go back, though in fairness the menu looked appetizing and the beers interesting.
Hello Dominic, Please accept my apologies for this unfortunate situation. Weekends can be a bit hectic, but we still should have been able to find a solution that worked for everyone, particularly at 5:30. If you would be interested in coming back, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, we will be sure to set aside a table for the whole family and provide a round of drinks and snacks on the house. All the best, Max
A bit of a mix-up when we arrived with our reservation but they quickly fixed it up and we had a great time catching up over some great beer and delicious eats. Will be back again!
Food was delicious. Good value. Service was a bit inconsistent, although staff was very friendly. Love the space!
Inventive dishes. Vegetables as tasty as the steak. Glad to see Chef Barr back.
The only negative was the freezing cold air blowing on us. Bring a sweater!
