Banana Tree - Chelmsford
Not sure if it’s the restaurant or Opentable. Booked a table for 7 on a Saturday night as this was the only place available that could accommodate our party size. Booked via Opentable a hour before the booking time. When we got to the restaurant we were turned away as they said they closed bookings from Opentable at 4pm. I had booked at 6:15pm for 7:15pm reservation. Showed the email and timings but still turned away and no effort to or unable to accommodate us. Really bad as no one else could accommodate us and we had travelled 20 miles to get there plus pay for parking.
We waited nearly an hour for our food to turn up. We had to keep chasing it; no one came over proactively the tell us what was going on. The restaurant was not busy so I can only assume it was the deliveries via Deliveroo etc that were causing the problem. If we hadn’t been going somewhere else afterwards we would have walked out but we had no other options for food other than fast food so decided to wait.
The food was good but the atmosphere wasn’t and the waiter we had was simply not engaged.
It was a real shame, we won’t be goi g back.
We had a good evening and the food was great. One of our meals was delivered a bit late though
Overall the snacks and drinks were good. But even though it was not much busy there were not many staff and we had to wait everytime for 10 mins before asking for service. May be not one of the good days of the staff. Have had food from Banana Tree at other cities and loved it, so would still give it second chance before blacking it out.
I think there was more choice on the previous menu. The dessert menu could do better with more choice. Overall though, the meals were lovely as well as the desserts. The staff were attentive and lovely.
Delicious food, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent allergy information available which made the meal even more enjoyable.
2 for 1 cocktails and mocktails aare also fantastic, especially the lychee one!
First time at this restaurant. The food was nice but nothing special and the price was reasonable. I would say give it a try if it’s your type of thing but on balance it’s average
We booked in very late one evening and were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was!
We would definitely eat here again.
First time I had eaten here. There were 9 of us which included 3 young children and a teenager. Everyone enjoyed their food. The portion sizes were perfect, the menu had some nice different dishes on and catered well for everyone. Will definitely be going back there again.
Good food, lots of choice, fresh and tasty and excellent selection for veggie/vegan diners. Good place for catch up with friends as not too noisy and reasonably priced.
Table not ready for us even tho it was quite. Food came out in stages we had to ask when one meal didn’t arrive for some time. The cocktails tasted as if they had forgotten to put the alcohol in. Food had no taste, very disappointed as it was a birthday celebration.
I would certainly recommend Banana Tree. It was our first visit as as a family and found the staff were very pleasant, helpful and the food very delicious.
We will definitely be visiting again
They say you taste with your eyes first. Fresh, colourful and very well presented.
Lovely combination of flavours.
Two starters, main course each, Jasmine tea, £40
Loved it would defo go back, staff really friendly, food is all fresh and healthy! It’s a nice touch that some of the money from certain meals goes towards the orangutans in Borneo 😊 lots of vegan options to pick from too and children eat free on a sunday
