Bier Markt - Ottawa
It was great to be back at the restaurant. The service was very good the waitress herself Celeste, had a great sense of humour was very helpful with healthy meal choices for dinner and even though she was a bit stressed with some of the other clients and because of the way they were treating her she always had a smile on her face and it made our dinner all the better and more fun.
Looking forward to coming back! Keep the duck appetizer. It's a fantastic choice!
Great food! We appreciated how the server made changes for our pizza request. We asked for goat cheese on our pizza instead to blue cheese. It was the best pizza ever!! The red high chairs with the back rest were a bit uncomfortable. They looked very new, yet were not best designed. We kept sliding downwards from them.. It was kind of funny. We thought about asking the server to change our table, but then put something underneath our self from sliding forward and it helped to helped a foot bar near our feet area to keep us from sliding down. Just wanted to bring that to your attention though.
Food and drinks were good. Great bar service but a little busy at this table. High noice level. Cassandra was great and took very good care of us in many regards. Happening place on a Friday night. Had a coupon for a free appetizer so cost of dinner was very reasonable.
Dissappointed because cauliflour dish was not available, no mushrooms with the steak, and some bier choices were not available.
Had the Farmers Chicken Salad. Would not order it again... Chicken was tough and cold, egg was nowhere near soft boiled. The rest of our food was ok.
Kids home from University and looking for a cool pub to have a couple beer and good eats. They had “run out” of one of the beer ordered but ones we did get were nice and cold. Server was a bit slow taking orders and checking in if we needed more. Food was over priced and bland. Charcuterie board expensive for what you get...basically 3 pieces of each meat ordered, 2 pieces of each cheese and only 3 slices of toasted bread. Pizzas had no taste and they also were out of spinach so could not get one of the pizzas wanted. Beef dip sandwich seemed to be the only meal liked out of the 6 meals ordered.
Disappointed overall and will not go back, many other pubs in the area to choose from next time.
Excellent food. Excellent service.
I ordered top sirloin steak but the meat was as it was in the menu. It was chewy and barely eatable.
Took "beet and quinoa salad"with radish shavings. Wow what I got was micro cubes of beets hidden in a mountain of spinach with a tastless dressing.
Staff are well trained on all the beers that are sold. It's refreshing to find a place that can pair fine ales with the food menu. The schnitzel was outstanding. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anybody who has enjoyed the fine dining of Belgium.
3 of 4 of us came for gouda beef dip....sold out and it was 1pm Thursday...disappointing.
Our $41 bottle of wine is $10.95 at LCBO!
Even though I made a reservation they stuck Us in the very last table in the very back of the restaurant. Also disappointing.
Food is always good every time we visit (the duck wings are so good that I crave them all the time) and our server Tryston was absolutely delightful. He was fun, very nice, and very attentive. He was always asking us if we wanted refills or if he could get us anything. We will definitely be going back and asking to sit in his section again. It's one thing to always have good food, but it's a completely different thing to have amazing service.
Although the questions ask's, "Would you recommend Bier Markt....." I did state "yes", buit there is a "but" attatched to the statement. I really enjoy German-themed venues especially with Oktoberfest fast appraoching, but if you are going to attempt german style food, know what you are getting yourself into. After arriving at the restaurant, we were quickly seated and there seemed to be an abundance of staff present, but it was clear that they clearly lacked working together, as the service seemed very disorganized. Our drink order was taken quickly but there was a large lag in the actual delivery of the beverage, and from a completely different person, as well once the order was taken, and the restaurant did not seem busy, we waited.... and waited.....finally the serves came over an apologized and said the "dish" would be "compted". When the dish finally arrived, and it was a regular item on the menu, it was clearly overcooked. Although the ambiance of the restaurant is fun, the prices on the menu do not equal the value.
Will I return? Maybe.
...but Bier Markt needs to step up their game.
To friendly, did not serve us water,
Small plate for the price,
Excellent food and ambiance! The only thing I didn’t like was the chairs, they are slippery and you feel like you’re falling off.
I wasn't too impressed actually. The beet salad was very bland. Everyone else with us liked their food, but the two of us who got that salad were less than impressed unfortunately. The tall, red chairs are not comfortable at all. We all felt like we were sliding out of them and some of us changed to use stools instead.
Yes for a beer on the patio or inside, but the food was disappointing. I remember eating there before and being impressed but the menu was much shorter and food just ok. Could use more beer on tap too...for a place called bier markt I was expecting more.
Food was not so good as the previous experience, fish and chips was heavier than usual
Great selection of beers and food with great staff. Background noise of music doesn’t dominate your conversation.
Waitress was hardly around so getting refills on drinks was difficult.
They used to have sharing boards with lots of items, but now they only offer cheese and meat.
Disappointed. Otherwise the service is always pretty good if you're sitting towards the front of the restaurant. If you're at the back, you seem to get lost amongst the tables.
we had fun...but feel the table rules are a tad strict
Great place to meet up with friends! Food was excellent and the knowledgable staff friendly. Highly recommend!
The sharing platter did not have much on it, but the portions for the the main plates were large and filling.
This restaurant was pretty good and the food was very delicious, but the service was very mediocre and barely any attention was paid by our waitress. I see this is a common review online and so I think the restaurant should put more effort into training staff.
Really enjoyed the options and decor. The service was good and the food selection had something for everyone. Great selection of craft beers.
The service is terrific at the Bier Markt, Ottawa. I would recommend the burger. Great atmosphere for both large and small groups.
The service was timely and food was good. The mussels is amazing
My farmhouse salad had zero pecans in it, despite being listed in the menu description. Duck wings were very good. Calamari too.
The food was great and so was the service. There was a piece of gum stuck to the edge of my seat (who would do that?), and it got onto my pant leg. The server cleverly brought me some ice to apply to it, and it came right off. We found the music a bit too loud for our liking, so perhaps we will not come back during happy hour. The volume decreased at about the time we were leaving, which was shortly after 7:00 PM.
Nothing special and the food is okay at best. Good selection of beers and that is about it.
Good enough to spend time with an old friend. We went during happy hour, so drinks and apps were reasonably priced.
The waitstaff was kind and accommodating to my party of 8. The beers were amazing and the food was fantastic. I loved the beer pairings on the food menu and the overall feel of the place.
My daughter is vegan. You do not offer a lot of vegan options. For that reason we would not return.
I loved the $5 Mojito special it was so good, beer selection is amazing of course and the service was outstanding.
Consistently friendly and fast attentive service. Our waitress knew the beer menu quite well, but was not as familiar with the wine selection.
Average night out. Food was good, but it took a long time to get served and then get our food (over an hour). Dessert menu has three items - one of which was no longer available (server flip flopped between it being sold out and also that the menu was changing so certain items were not available).
The food we did eat was good and our server overall was very kind and sweet. The restaurant was quite full when we arrived so it was a good atmosphere.
Duck wings were delicious, pork schnitzel was disappointing: dry and tough. The braised red cabbage that came with it wasn’t great either.
We went on. Thursday between 5 and 7:00 p.m. the music level was too loud, we could not hear ourselves talk. Whack is too bad, since we really like this restaurant. We will probably not go back at this time due to the loud music. Will probably try lunch next time.
Good food, good service, good ambience. Not easy for someone who needs to eat gluten free here. For example, one of the only things on the menu that is adaptable to be GF are burgers. Not sure why they don't have gluten-free buns available for the burgers - seems like a standard offering at other similar places. Lettuce isn't really a good substitute for a bun!
