Big Fish Grill
A perfect spot to enjoy the Monterey harbor views, and dine on local favorites! The clam chowder was superb, and the bread was warm and crunchy and fresh! Skip the sour dough bread bowl, and go for the chowder with fresh bread to accompany it!
Always visit here when I come to Monterey! The food is exceptional and there isn’t a bad view in the whole place. Friendly staff and reasonable prices for seafood in the area!
Restaurant was freezing which cooled off our food while eating. Appetizer took so long it just barely beat the dinner. Garlic mashed had no flavor and rice pilaf wasn't, just yellow rice with carrots. Total valentine's evening letdown.
The server was in a big hurry and did not at all want to accommodate any food allergies. She stood over us while she ran our credit card, and watched while we put in our tip. It was very rude.
Not bad, but not great. Limited drink menu, but lots of wines. Food was slightly over priced, but flavor was decent. Would maybe go again if other restaurants were full.
$32 for a 1/4” thick ribeye smothered in mushroom gravy, asked for medium rare came out well done! Gross! The cioppino had salmon in it instead of a white fish And had zero flavor. The most overpriced garbage food I have ever had! On a better note the clam chowder and the server we’re the only bright spots for the evening! Will not return.
Wasn’t overly impressed. After going, seemed it was a tourist trap along the fisherman’s wharf. My opinion is to save your money and put it towards a nicer seafood dinner. I’m shocked that is place is on open table and accepts reservations.
Sand dabs and seafood fettuccine we're pretty good, service was good on a slow night. Prices were the standard for the area. An older restaurant with a fairly limited menu, but a great view and lots of history there.
The restaurant sits at the end of the Monterey Wharf...an idyllic setting. The food and service were terrific - we definitely highly recommend the appetizer "Popcorn Shrimp." The setting and views were unparalleled. Even if you think that the Wharf is "too touristy," try this place - it is worth it!
We were very disappointed. Have gone there for the last 2 years in a row and just loved it. This year we were extremely disappointed. Used to have a great menu. that has all changed. Menu has been cut down considerably and the petrale sole that used to be so delicious is no longer on the menu. The choices we used to have were gone. I had to end up getting a cheeseburger because the menu was so limited in terms of good food. Really disappointed and will not be going back again. They have really done a disservice to their loyal customers.
A wonderful spot for dinner, food is good, service is great and the view is amazing! A place to go back to:)
Fresh, excellent and oustanding fish and chips, sand dabs with vege, dinner salad and delicious fries. I will be back!
The food were too salty and oily.
Fun place to eat.. Great food and service. We had a window seat and the view was great.. Busy place, so make a reservation if you can
Nice place for a smaller group. Amzing view, good - great food. Our biggest problem was an onion allergy. Many of the foods are premixed, made, or done in a base that is made with onion, so we were not able to enjoy them. Fresh cooked fish was great, but a lack of sauces, toppings to use left a little to be desired.
Good seafood restaurant that benefits from a fantastic location on tbe end of famous Monterey pier. Would recommend if you are in the area
Our server was so nice and attentive, they also gave my son a delicious dessert for his bday. The food was delicious and a nice sea view!
Excellent oceanside dining, albeit touristy....which was expected.
My wife loved her artichoke and bruschetta and I enjoyed the scampi.
Good food and great service! We'll be coming back for another special occasion next time again...
Fish texture was tough and dry, as if it was frozen or previously prepared and reheated. Did not taste fresh as we expected. Garlic mashed potatoes had taste and texture of instant.
The only negative was that we didn’t get the table we requested-thought it wouldn’t be a problem, since we went for an early dinner.
The food was great & our server (Michelle) was very attentive & quick to respond to our needs. Overall very pleasant experience.
Great place at the end of the Fishermans Wharf. If you can make it all the way down, views are great, service & food was good too.
The location is great, and so was the service. But the food was awful. A total disappointment.
Very good food and service
I used open table to make a reservation, but when we arrived the host told us he didn’t have any tables available. When we asked how long it would take to get seated, he told us he didn’t know because he didn’t have any tables available. My takeaway was that the restaurant doesn’t really manage its reservations the reservations that come from open table.
Nothing special. Service was good. Food OK. Lots of choices. The background music was annoying. Don't use your map app to find it. There is little parkjng where maps directs you. The restaurant is at the end of the wharf so you walk awhile.
Really great food
Had a reservation for 6:30, arrived early, they still sat us by a window. They saw that we had a reservation and set up the table immediately. Food was very good and filling😃
It was good food. Very filling.
The food was surprisingly good considering it is located in a very touristy area. Very good clam chowder, shrimp cocktail and fried combo plate.
The unfortunate part was after indicating on the reservation and speaking with the host twice, they neglected to bring our desert with a candle for my wife's birthday. After he brought the desert, I mentioned about the candle. He came back, placed the candle and the table and hurried off.
Server was awsome service was prompt and food was good
This was our first visit to Big Fish and it was excellent. I had the salmon and it was very, very good. My husband had the Paella and he said it was excellent, the best he's had in a while. Our server was very friendly also. Highly recommend.
The service, the view, and the paella were excellent! Plenty of fresh bread and butter was served. I ate about a third of the delicious dish, and made two more meals at home from the leftovers. This was the second time I’d eaten here, and I’ll definitely be back!
They do NOT honor open table!!! Do not go to this restaurant. You will wait just like everyone else. We explained how open table works and the guy in the front laughed at us, told us we had to wait in line. Ridiculous. Open Table needs to remove them from their reservation system. We walked away and did not dine here after being treated the way we were. Go to Ablonettis seafood down the wharf — it was awesome!!
Had to wait 30 min after my scheduled reservation. Food made up for wait. Great
Food and service were excellent! We had a window table in the front corner of the restaurant and had a wonderful view of the harbor, otters, seals and sea lions.
I expected a little more classier decor. The decor was very outdated. Felt like I was sitting in a runway. But the waterview experience was nice. Positive note the food was decent and great portions.
Its a great place to spot some seal, enjoy the ocean view and vacation like atmosphere.
One need to consider it is crowed, special on weekends and might want to put a reservation forward.
