The worst service ! The server looked annoyed did not check in with us throughout the evening. Food too long to be served. My steak was so chewy, I sent it back. Server did not offer anything in exchange, simply took my plate and walked away... horrible!
We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and everything was great -- food, service, wine, ambience. Kudos to the whole staff.
Lindsay was the best!!
The food and service were spot on! And we enjoyed sitting outside as the weather that evening was amazing...there outdoor seating is quiet and adorable!
As always, classic bistro food beautifully prepared, with a few entirely appropriate modern twists.
Outstanding food and wine!
First it's important to say what a nice room, ambiance, setting this place is -- as if you're in the dining room at a friends home. If experience counts as part of the reason you dine out then you've got that here. That said in the end its all about the food, and in our case this was lacking in the cooking department. I ordered steak tartare and it arrived with an egg off to the side encased in a croquette of sorts. The egg might be better on the tartare where the yolk brings added richness to the dish. But not a bad start. From there I went with the duck confit, a standard in French bistro menus. The challenge is to get the skin crisp without overcooking the duck. In my case the duck was well done, tough and some parts more jerky-ish. Flavors were nice but either this was cooked earlier and left too long in a warming oven -- or the chef needs to rethink the cook. Dessert was by far the best part of the meal. My wife and I shared a Pain Perdu and it was just wonderful. Service was attentive and so on balance a nice experience.
However having come from a recent trip to Seattle where we dined at Bistro Campagne in the Pike Place Market, I can say the Seattle version far surpassed what we had on the culinary end. Bistro menus are fairly straight-forward. It's the execution that counts. In any event we'll be back.
Whether it's hot or cold outside, this is one of our favorite places in the city! The food, service and ambiance are amazing. So lucky to have this in our hood.
Went for an anniversary -- were greeted with complimentary champagne. Ryan and Kat were attentive, funny and helpful. Got us a seat outside after we initially could not. Food including baguette was excellent (Steak Frites done perfectly -- but a bit tough. Duck Confit & Sausage delicious). Enjoyed our Cotes du Rhone. Cozy, charming French atmosphere. Place is a gem. Will definitely be back.
Always a great meal and wine selection. Very good service and selection of French cuisine.
We have been coming here for years! Most recently in January 2019. I am sorry to say but, this time around the food was not up to par! Either menu / chef has changed but, some thing is really off. I would give it another try ... but, I was also taken back that I made a point of stating it was a bday ( my daughters ) and no one asked me about it etc, and although we had an outside table waiting for us, the host made us wait “ until everyone was there “ my husband was parking , as the “ outside is first come first serve.” Very bizarre experience !
We were very disappointed in the steak frites, which all four of us ordered (and always do, the big lure for us). The new cut of meat was tough and extremely chewy. So I can’t really say whether I’d recommend it—unless I added a caveat: din’t Order the steak frites. But the server was super and the outdoor table heavenly.
Really great brunch, especially the pain perdu. Service is friendly, helpful, and attentive. Absolutely loved the little outdoor seating area!
The back patio was beautiful. Perfect for a little birthday brunch. Service could not have been better. And the food was yummy.
Outstanding! Thoughtful menu, delicious appetizers, great atmosphere. Staff warm and friendly. Can't wait to come back.
My wife and I were looking for an appropriate--hopefully outdoor--setting in which to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and we were not disappointed. Because we indicated it was a special occasion when we booked the reservation, we were greeted with complimentary flutes of champagne as soon as we were seated. The cocktail menu was one of the most distinctive and imaginative we have ever seen. The appetizers, entrees, and desserts were delicious, and the service hit the sweet spot of being attentive without being intrusive. It was a great experience.
Fabulous food and noise level perfect for catching up with friends.
Great food and excellent service.
Everything was absolutely perfection! The chicken is phenomenal, as always. Bistro Campagne has turned into our favorite French food in the city. Also, the noise level is conducive to having conversation unlike many of the Chicago hot spots!
I have eaten at Bistro Campagne many times over the years, thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. We were really disappointed. I would go back again to see if my original impressions of the restaurant were in line and Saturday night was an anomaly. The maitre d' was dressed for a day at the beach, not a classic French restaurant. It truly started things on a bad note. While we were greeted by our waitress with flutes of champagne to celebrate our anniversary, that was the last good service we saw. Service was incredibly slow and after sitting for two hours for an appetizer and dinner, we gave up on dessert and just left. Getting our check paid was the fastest service we received.
The food we ordered was very good with the exception of the petite tenderloin steak. It was difficult to chew. This is the second time I’ve ordered steak at this restaurant with unsatisfactory results. I don’t recommend ordering either of the steak entrees.
For an appetizer we had the seared scallops which were heavenly. Entrees were the grilled salmon and white fis. Both were cooked to perfection.
We love Bistro Campagne and will continue to return over and over again!
We had not been to Bistro Campagne for awhile and we were delighted at the service, food and atmosphere! It is a lovely neighborhood restaurant that is excellent, comparable in quality to popular/touristy restaurants, but so much nicer in its ambiance. A Chicago gem.
Best French Bistro in the city and has been for quite some time. Right there with Le Bouchon.
Meals are executed superbly making it obvious the kitchen has a high level of competency.
Every time I dine there I notice a subtle menu addition/change and always for the better.
Waitstaff is knowledgeable regarding the menu. Always enjoy the staff there.
My only wish is the wine list had a little more volume.
Overall, Bistro Campagne is my favorite dining spot in the city. Their outdoor area is as good a setting as there is.
For very good French fare in as quaint and comfortable a setting as you’ll find in Chicago, Bistro Campagne is a must.
One of the nicest restaurants you can go to in Chicago. Food and service is fantastic. The staff are very professional and nic to
Amazing brunch! Great value and quality! We think it is the top place in the neighborhood.
Complex French county flavors. Had the whitefish and it was superb! Anyone who been here need to stop in. Great spot
We are regulars since the opening. Worst meal we ever had. Chef changed the meat cut of the steak frites - awful and fatty. Salmon quality tasted frozen served with mushy potato galette. Might need to reconsider as our fave neighborhood spot. Really saf
Very good food. My friend had the chicken and I had the white fish, we were both very happy with our meals. Our scallop appetizer was very tasty also. Too bad it was raining, I would have liked to have eaten in their lovely garden.
You can never go wrong with Bistro Campagne. Everything was sublime.
I have been to Bistro Campagne several times and I have never been disappointed. The food is very well prepared, delicious and reasonably priced. The service is also wonderful.
The food is always perfect there. Sitting outside in the adorable patio in back is so relaxing. The server was very nice and friendly. The only problem was it took a very very long time to get our entrees.
Our first visit to Bistro Compagne but will definitely not be our last, it was a milestone anniversary celebration & it could not have been better. The food was great, the ambience ,charming & our server, Tanya, was wonderful. A true 5 star experience!!
Very pleasant evening with good food in a lovely space.
We came here for the first time for our anniversary and the staff was so nice! They treated us so kindly and made us feel special!
Bistro Campagne is in one of the most beautiful spaces of any restaurants I’ve been to. We especially love the courtyard, but the indoor seating areas also have a nice atmosphere. We were there most recently to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and were greeted with glasses of champagne, which was a lovely touch. Every course of our meal was delicious, and the service was at exactly the right level of attentiveness.
I love this place. Great food, friendly & knowledgable service, and a lovely setting, with no pretension.
We loved our visit to Bistro Campagne. The outdoor garden looks lovely, I hope we can get a table out there some time in this great weather. We loved the hot bread, which came to the table only after we ordered appetizers, so we didn't get to eat much of it because our beet salad had arrived and it was terrific. The whitefish on pea puree was heavenly. I love steak frites, but didn't pay enough attention to the menu and it came smothered in a sauce, which I would've preferred it not had. That said, it was perfectly done and the fries were great. Only real downside was our server. She took our initial cocktail order at the outset, taking a lot of care to help us understand each fabulous ingredient, then once they were delivered, we never saw her again the rest of the meal. Wonderful spot, though, charming, cozy and always good food.
