Bistro La Provence
Special dinner, food was beautiful, wine selection spot on, Ambience perfect, service considered. Will become a regular for us to remind ourselves of Provence!
Went to Bistro La Provence for my 20th anniversary and had a good night
the food was good and the service was first rate
it's such a good place to have a quiet meal surrounded with ambience
the only issue I had with my experience was the air conditioning wasn't turned on in the restaurant
and it was really warm which made it uncomfortable
Also I had the spatchcock meal and in Manu's words it needed more sauce!
I reluctantly write this as I feel that I am letting the cat out of the bag!!! Lovely flavoursome food, excellent service in a fantastic setting!! I found out about Bistro La Provence through a friend and would recommend it to anybody, especially for a special occasion.
Lovely French Bistro - very good food and good service. It was our second visit and we have no hesitation in recommending the venue.
Wow what a great find!
Truly authentic French cuisine.
The food, service and wine list were really great.
Can’t wait to go back and try more on the menu.
It’s a must try.
Thank you for allowing us to open the bottle of wine that I (in error!) brought to the evening meal.
The quoted corkage fee of $46 is pretty fierce, but I did note that we were charged a bit less than that ($35)
We did also buy some wine from your list!
Despite some order confusion ( wrong dish brought, and our salad order never arrived), we did enjoy ourselves.
Lovely ambience, with delicious food and very attentive staff!
Love this place and will alwsy be back
One of the best French restaurants in Melbourne. Our lunch was perfect in every way, food, service and fine dining ambience. I especially recommend the beetroot cured salmon strips entree.
The food is better than average, .the service needs to be improved. We wanted dessert and were given the menus but nobody came back to take our order. We just asked for the bill and left.
Went for valentines day. Had an amazing meal. Staff were very friendly. Will come back again.
We came for a birthday celebration, and felt totally looked after. When my preferred wine was out of stock, a dearer wine was substituted for the same price. Apart from the excellent food, the service was attentive, friendly, and timely. Happily come here every time for a special event.
Waited for a while to be offered first drink which took forever to come. Our order was taken as was our order of a bottle of wine. Wrong bottle came out to us. My entree of mussels and prawns was 1 out of 3 mussels I could not eat as shell was closed tight, and my prawns were barely cooked and still half cold. I was not impressed but everyone else seemed to enjoy their soup and someone else had scallops.
My Dory main dish was delicious so no complaints there. Overall I was a bit disappointed with this evening as we have been several times before and thoroughly enjoyed all the food. Maybe an off night!!
Has the feel of an authentic French Bistro. The host and staff were lovely and were happy to provide wine recommendations without pressure to "up-sell". The menu is very traditional (duck a l'orange, steak and chips (5 cuts from with to choose and sauces), chicken, fish, cheese souffle, creme brulee, etc.). It definitely feels like dining in Paris.
We had lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was not full but the decor is nice and the service very friendly. We had 2 cocktails which were amazing. The duck pate and scallops were sensational and I would go back again.
My daughter wanted to come here for her fifteenth birthday and we had the most beautiful night.
Fabulous evening. Congratulations to the team and compliments to the chef on a beautiful meal.
Very good service and very clean
Expensive but worth the money
Feed was quite good but service was seriously lacking. Couldn’t get a waiter when needed because they forgot the front part of the restaurant. We had to pour our own drinks which is poor considering the prices on the menu.
Really enjoy eating at Bistro La Provence, both the food and service have been great every time I've been there! Look forward to going back!
Bistro La Provence is a lovely restaurant. The service was top notch. The food was divine.
A piece of la belle France hidden away in Bayside Brighton. Wonderful food, beautifully discrete service and a nostalgic trip back to classic dining. Will definitely return!
We were expecting a first class night for our wedding anniversary and that's what we got. Bit pricey but worth it.
We have become regular diners at this lovely bistro. Typical French fare is seasonal, beautifully prepared and delicious. Service is friendly and attentive. Quiet, comfortable and relaxing. Well-priced. We recommend the fish of the day, rabbit, (coq au vin when offered) and crepes Suzette.
Food, servive, drinks all excellent. Couldnt recommend more highly. Real French.
Food was fabulous. Tucked away and a Great place to catch up with friends.
The food, wine , ambiance and service was 5 star. We intend to to make it one of our regular place to dine each month.
Had a lovely dinner at Bistro La Provence. Highly recommended. Food was amazing, ambience was relaxed and romantic. Desserts... so so good.
well.. where to start?
Bistro La Provence popped up during a conversation on french restaurants with my wife (we actually started on where to dine when we go to France next year).. as that 'French place on the Esplanade'
And so, we booked. And had a very enjoyable dining experience there.
On arrival, the small (it is narrow) shop front we found hides a very large dining area
behind the bar inside the front door. Tables of two and tables of more were scattered
about this dining area.
NOTE- the floor is carpeted and there are large drapes on walls/windows SO NO YELLING required!
I could actually hear what my wife was saying during dinner...
Service.... was near perfect throughout the night. From water and bread thru to well timed
arrival of the selected dishes, it was just very good. Attentive but unobtrusive...
The meals themselves are quite large portions (no skimping on the size of the serves we noted)
and were simply some of the best food we have eaten in the past few years. The frites were...
The wine list is very good too, full of French wines, aperitifs etc by the bottle and glass
( I finished the dining with 'Fromage' and a glass of Muscat de Beaumes d'Venise 2014
a favourite and very hard to get) plus a wide selection of Australian wines and beers.
Overall, a very enjoyable dining experience
We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our dining experience and have already booked for a repeat performance
This is a very good French bistro
Brilliant food and service. Seriously unbeatable french. We lucky to have it nearby.
Excellent Food and Service. Waiters were professional and friendly. They know how to serve up great French Food with an accent!
Exceptional food, fantastic service. Was a perfect night for our wedding anniversary. What a hidden little gem. Hope to be back again soon.
Wonderful food, wonderful service, wonderful ambiance.
Beautiful food. Friendly and prompt service. Will come again.
This was my second visit to Bistro La Provence, and it did not disappoint. I extended my stay in Melbourne so that I could eat at the delicious offerings here. I was delighted with the flavours, service, and the gluten free choices. Thankyou Chef and team!
Fabulous. We were a teenager, mum and grandmother. Restaurant hit the high point for all 3 of us (which is not easy to do - we are all fussy). Food, drinks, service and ambience all spot on. Can not rave enough - we will definitely be back- finally a restaurant to be excited about in walking distance of home - yaaaa.
We were given a glowing recommendation to dine at Bistro La Provence by friends in Melbourne (as visitors from Sydney). Everything was wonderful from booking a table, warm welcome on arrival, ambience, service, stunning food (delectable), diverse wine list and the overall experience. We left the restaurant on a very joyful note. And the next day, we reminisced how wonderful and memorable our evening was at Bistro La Provence. We recommend the restaurant highly and can't wait to return when we are next in Melbourne. Merci Tyson & Laurent and Team Bistro La Provence!
First time we had been to have a quiet dinner for two although it caters for larger groups. Great service, food, wine list and ambience. Depending on the night an added bonus is an after dinner walk out on the pier and enjoy the amazing Melbourne skyline and lights up and down the bay
Nice food wines were expensive
I love this restaurant, the food and the decor, which felt like a home. I will go there regularly.
Pretty standard French menu but well executed and it is very relaxed and accommodating. Very little wait time. Nice wines too. Only one thing not quite right....the beans as a side dish were quite old beans.
I like that a quick drink at the bar is fine with them too. I would recommend it to anyone with pleasure.
They are professional and accommodating and another French restaurant not too far away could learn a lot from them.
