Bistro La Provence
Food was fabulous. Tucked away and a Great place to catch up with friends.
The food, wine , ambiance and service was 5 star. We intend to to make it one of our regular place to dine each month.
Had a lovely dinner at Bistro La Provence. Highly recommended. Food was amazing, ambience was relaxed and romantic. Desserts... so so good.
well.. where to start?
Bistro La Provence popped up during a conversation on french restaurants with my wife (we actually started on where to dine when we go to France next year).. as that 'French place on the Esplanade'
And so, we booked. And had a very enjoyable dining experience there.
On arrival, the small (it is narrow) shop front we found hides a very large dining area
behind the bar inside the front door. Tables of two and tables of more were scattered
about this dining area.
NOTE- the floor is carpeted and there are large drapes on walls/windows SO NO YELLING required!
I could actually hear what my wife was saying during dinner...
Service.... was near perfect throughout the night. From water and bread thru to well timed
arrival of the selected dishes, it was just very good. Attentive but unobtrusive...
The meals themselves are quite large portions (no skimping on the size of the serves we noted)
and were simply some of the best food we have eaten in the past few years. The frites were...
The wine list is very good too, full of French wines, aperitifs etc by the bottle and glass
( I finished the dining with 'Fromage' and a glass of Muscat de Beaumes d'Venise 2014
a favourite and very hard to get) plus a wide selection of Australian wines and beers.
Overall, a very enjoyable dining experience
We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our dining experience and have already booked for a repeat performance
This is a very good French bistro
Brilliant food and service. Seriously unbeatable french. We lucky to have it nearby.
Excellent Food and Service. Waiters were professional and friendly. They know how to serve up great French Food with an accent!
Exceptional food, fantastic service. Was a perfect night for our wedding anniversary. What a hidden little gem. Hope to be back again soon.
Wonderful food, wonderful service, wonderful ambiance.
Beautiful food. Friendly and prompt service. Will come again.
This was my second visit to Bistro La Provence, and it did not disappoint. I extended my stay in Melbourne so that I could eat at the delicious offerings here. I was delighted with the flavours, service, and the gluten free choices. Thankyou Chef and team!
Fabulous. We were a teenager, mum and grandmother. Restaurant hit the high point for all 3 of us (which is not easy to do - we are all fussy). Food, drinks, service and ambience all spot on. Can not rave enough - we will definitely be back- finally a restaurant to be excited about in walking distance of home - yaaaa.
We were given a glowing recommendation to dine at Bistro La Provence by friends in Melbourne (as visitors from Sydney). Everything was wonderful from booking a table, warm welcome on arrival, ambience, service, stunning food (delectable), diverse wine list and the overall experience. We left the restaurant on a very joyful note. And the next day, we reminisced how wonderful and memorable our evening was at Bistro La Provence. We recommend the restaurant highly and can't wait to return when we are next in Melbourne. Merci Tyson & Laurent and Team Bistro La Provence!
First time we had been to have a quiet dinner for two although it caters for larger groups. Great service, food, wine list and ambience. Depending on the night an added bonus is an after dinner walk out on the pier and enjoy the amazing Melbourne skyline and lights up and down the bay
Nice food wines were expensive
I love this restaurant, the food and the decor, which felt like a home. I will go there regularly.
Pretty standard French menu but well executed and it is very relaxed and accommodating. Very little wait time. Nice wines too. Only one thing not quite right....the beans as a side dish were quite old beans.
I like that a quick drink at the bar is fine with them too. I would recommend it to anyone with pleasure.
They are professional and accommodating and another French restaurant not too far away could learn a lot from them.
Very friendly service and value for money! The environment was excellent and familiar to a 5-star restaurant.
Good choice for a classic, intimate restaurant experience
Quite an extensive menu. Good mix of choices. Perhaps some more vegetarian food would be good. Second time here and will come again. Delicious sauces. Lovely to be able to talk to our dinner companions without having to shout.
We love this restaurant. It is local to us, great menu and wine list. The food is always beautiful and well cooked and the staff are friendly. It transports us to a Parisian bistro experience which we love. Already looking forward to our next visit.
A friend recommended that we go to Bistro La Provence, we did. We were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, like walking into some ones lounge room, the quality of service, staff recommending what wines to have with our meals, the food, beautifully presented and very tasty. Although a bit expensive we would go again and would know we would receive the same impeccable experience!
Great menu, extensive wine list, excellent service, wonderful ambience. The background sound level is just right for a comfortable but private conversation. We had the cheese soufle, the cassoulet and the creme brulee all perfect
Staff and food was beautiful- authentic French food! Had some great wines and cocktails available too
Everything was excellent as last time on Mother’s Day, 12 May, including the requested table by the fireplace. Laurent and his team have an eye for detail and are excellent at providing the right level of attention without in any way being intrusive. Impossible to criticise anything. Just a perfect evening altogether and, of course, we shall be back. Thank you Laurent and Team. Kind regards. Pedro De Souza.
I was craving classic french food on the day and we picked randomly Bistro la Provence. The food was delicious and the place was surprisingly big, elegant and warm considering the tiny front entrance. The service was impeccable and friendly. We will definitely come again to have another tartare
Great place - food, service and menu. Would recommend.
Great local French restaurant. Best chocolate suffle I have had in a long time.
Beautiful serene atmosphere, combined with great service and traditional French food, makes for a truly unique experience in the heart of Brighton
An authentic French menu will not disappoint. A hidden gem.
Absolutely love this place. So authentic and delicious. The owner is a gem and he has some fabulous staff. Love the setting. Love the wine list. We were a party of 6 and everyone was very happy with their different choices. Huge plus to the fact we could all hear each other
I would absolutely be back and recommend Bistro La Provence. It served us the french provincial food we did not have in France.
The beef cheek bourguignon and the cassoullet were amazing and the foie gras was out of this world.
Beautiful decor...friendly attentive wait staff and food was delicious.
Altogether a lovely dining experience
Fantastic food, service, ambience - everything! Could not fault it at all and will definitely be back.
I have lived in Brighton area for more than 60 years and only just heard that there was a French restaurant opposite the baths! Best kept secret! I’ll be back. 😊
One of the best duck dishes I have every eaten. So tender and delicious. This is my favourite French restaurant in Melbourne. Their Creme Brulee is so creamy and delicious too!
Excellent food and service, definitely would recommend the steak tartare, onion soup and cured trout but suspect everything on the menu would be equally delicious.
We were delighted to celebrate Bastille Day with friends and family on Sunday afternoon. The food, service and atmosphere were exceptional and we can't wait to return!
Love it... great traditional French food beautifully cooked. A real gem...
We had a wonderful dinner, Bistro La Provence is that special restaurant you hold dear for special occasions. The food, service and atmosphere couldn't be any more French! The presentation of their menu is outstanding with a great selection of wines to match and the staff are both helpful and charming. We will be back!
High quality French dishes. Not fine dining, or trying to be, but typical of what one might expect from a good Parisian bistro. The wines list is heavily French and has an abundance of interesting choices. The French reds by the glass are perfect food wines.
