Really enjoyed my time at Bix. We first arrived and came in, the hostess a really nice gentleman asked us if we wanted to sit down or upstairs. We chose upstairs. We got sat at the last booth to the right right in front of the chicken door where people kept coming in and out. (Not a biggie)
Then we got greeted by our waitress whom at first did not seem so friendly and left us waiting a while after she brought us water.
She came take our drink order and we were ready to order our food but she failed to ask if we were ready.
Then came back and I told her we were easy for dinner I ordered the Duck Breast and she said they did not have that anymore but that they had another option and I was ok with that, the duck was slightly too salty for my taste but the whole dish was delicious. We also ordered the NY steak and the chicken hash which both were absolutely delicious.
We also had the Watermelon + Japaleño margarita, really tasty, and two deserts, highly recommended by one of the busser who made our visit much better. Very friendly, took the time to explain the desert and recommended some of his fav chooses which we went with.
Overall I’m happy with the visit, although I wish our lady was a bit nicer.
Fabulous Standard in SF!!
As usual, great service, great food. The best cappuccino I have EVER had. The only drawback (and I mean the only one) is that is it LOUD in this place. There is no sound deadening but the upstairs carpet and fabric in the booths. But that can be excused for everything else that is so great about this place.
Well taken care of. We were there to celebrate two birthdays and the wait staff plus owner of Bix was incredibly attentive.
Service was incredible! Food was great!
Great food Very good wine and a wonderful atmosphere Highly recommended
Food and service good a few service mistakes, wrong entree/wrong wine served, i will give the restaurant another chance
Can't miss with this SF institution! Atmosphere is perfect for 2 or 10!
A very good meal with a good wine selection to pair it. Starters and main course was delightful, however was let down by dessert. We ordered two different kinds at our table, and none where on par with entry and main course. Pannacotta was too sweet and did not justify what this delightful and classic dessert should represent. The cheese platter was uneventful and closer to a tasteless fondue than a platter, and did not invite any taste senses at all. Perhaps my European taste is being unfair to the place, but when I order a cheese platter, I expect to Taste my way up the scale.
All in all a good restaurant with a nice atmosphere. I would recommend it, but have low expectations on dessert to not get disappointed.
The food was delicious, esp. the spaghetti with lobster, and the service was excellent. The decor is classic 1930’s San Francisco within a neoclassical building, and the entry off Gold St really does make you feel like you’re entering someplace special. The overall rating would have been higher except for the noise level, which was very high.
It was very dark and very expensive. Food was
It was a cool restaurant with lots of ambiance. It was very noisy which made it hard to hear dinner partners.
It is a beautiful place and the music was good, but everything else was disappointing. The staff is rude.
Fantastic experience as always!
The menu had a lot of potential and the ingredients were clearly of high quality, but the preparation fell short and what could have been amazing, well balanced flavors... well, they weren’t. Tomato cart was much too sweet as though they used sweetened balsamic (not sure if that’s the case). Marrow bones were over-salted and quite greasy. Halibut was a bit over cooked or had sat under a heat lamp for too long. The overall halibut dish had a very one-dimensional flavor profile. I felt like someone with a novice palette created the dishes. Generally expected more from this menu and am not likely to recommend or go back.
Nicole was outstanding as our server, very attentive and such great energy. We enjoyed the speakeasy ambiance of the piano bar, loved the steak tartare and Lynmar wine made this our best dinner in the city! This is a hidden gem and we will definitely return!
Great place for wonderful cuisine and a pleasant ambiance. Highly recommended.
Fantastic ambiance and food. Delicious!
BIX is the warmest and most welcoming high end dining experience in San Francisco. Always welcoming. It is truly Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen. A classic in every sense of the word.
The food was good but too expensive and there were few options. The ambiance was charming but it was too noisy, we couldn’t enjoy the jazz musicians.
Exceptional service and delicious food. Loved the live music too!
I've been going to Bix for decades. It still holds up. Everything was lovely and on point--food, service-ambiance and people watching. After all these years I still love walking in and seeing the painting above the piano-- the glass is still just as alluring as the day I first saw this amazing work of art.
I really loved it. Took my parents for their anniversary and they said was one of the best dinners they had
Everything about our dinner experience here was perfect. Wait staff, food, and decor all excellent. Even had a piano player.
Great experience! Walked into some hot jazz and killer food and drink. AC and Andrew were standouts and the food was amazing-halibut for me and salmon for the wife. Followed by an outstanding dessert. Just. Go.
A classic in San Francisco. Came back after at least 30 years and Bix is as great as ever. Loved the menu, music and ambiance.
Bix never disappoints! Excellent food and service.
Service was exceptional, from the front desk, to the dining experience. Everyone was very accomodating and very kind. Food was good and the ambience was great.
Bix was fantastic. Food was really delicious, drinks were tasty, they were really accommodating of my mother’s allergies, the sever was one of the nicest servers I’ve had in my life, and they sat us upstairs away from the loud bar. I do recommend requesting an upstairs table because the bar was quite packed with the after work crowd.
The tomato cart was much less exciting than we'd hoped, although the produce was very good. The peach salad was boring, honestly. The blinis were a little to "reinterpreted" than what we expected...not thin, not buttery, a bit rubbery. The miyagi oysters were very good. The steak, the Duroc pork chop, the duck and the halibut were all expertly prepared, but their setups were not inspired and there could have been more done to excitingly show off what were perfectly prepared proteins. Dessert was ordinary...the peach cheesecake was bland and unexciting. The bananas foster was lovely in flavor, but unbalanced with regards to too much sauce. The encapsulated ice cream was very hard to cut, and floated around in the sauce so much that it was a bit of a struggle. Wine list is excellent. Service is excellent. All told, the value felt a little low for a premiere location offered by a veteran master restauranteur who cut his teeth at Jeremiah Tower's Stars. We felt a little let down.
Great service and delious food, nice music, over all everything was great
Good food and service but not at all the classy place it claims to be. We were there Saturday evening for dinner. Host and hostess snobby. Bar full of people dressed sloppy - torn jeans, T-shirts and ballcaps. One guy in boardshorts, sandals, worn out tshirt and ballcap. We had reserved an upstairs table hoping to have pleasant dinner with our friends but music was so loud we had to almost yell just to hear each other. The band includes a full drum set! If you’re there just to drink and listen to jazz, this is for you. We’ll never go back. For an elegant restaurant, go to Spruce
Could not have done better for my girlfriend’s birthday. Have loved this place for many years but this visit was particularly fabulous, including the best steak tartare we’ve ever had. The only down note was learning that one of my favorite bartenders, Bradley, had just retired after nearly 30 years.
The truffle burger makes you want to buy new shoes. Beware the cheeseballs that saunter up to the bar, though.
Great ambiance great food romantic
as always it was the perfect eveing; the atmosphere amazing; the service and food excellent
I travel regularly and eat out all the time at some of the best restaurants in the world. My dining experience at BIX in San Francisco was one of the best I've ever had. Seriously.
The vibe is great. Live jazz, awesome martini and top level service. The food was for lack of a better word...insane. I had the peach salad to start with the chicken as my entree. The meal looked more like crab cakes than chicken. The texture, temp and flavor were perfect.
I shouldn't have done it but I did...had the peach cheesecake for dessert in a sorry, not sorry situation. I had no space in my body for it but it was sooooo good.
This will be my go-to spot every time I am in San Francisco.
Great experience! So cool that you enter from an alley- just like a speakeasy! Loved the live music. We sat upstairs. Beautiful and food was delicious.
