A wonderful evening of music and martinis in a room built to enjoy jazz. A San Francisco jazz den I’ll be sure to revisit soon!
I really enjoyed my date-night here! Everything was great except for the fact that even with a reservation, we waited nearly an hour for our waiter to bring water to the table.
Intimate, great artist! We are repeat patrons. What a treat!
Great vibe, music, staff, bar and dessert! I found the ticket transaction and minimum food purchase and other policies to be complicated and time consuming to navigate online.
We went to celebrate our anniversary. The show was fantastic. We love live music and the atmosphere. First they tried to sit us in the back of the restaurant when I made a reservation for a table to watch the show. We asked to move more forward and the waiter reseated us. There was also a problem where we had a wait an hour for our food while other tables were being served around us. They did give us free drinks to compensate for the lateness. We’ve had better experiences in the past at this place but will think twice before considering coming again.
What a great place!!! And parking tuned out to be easy.
Great place to fall in love
A friend and I went to see a show this past weekend at Black Cat. The venue is very cool and the artist was outstanding. The food was good as well, though I felt the menu was a bit limited. My only complaint is that for the price of the ticket to the show and the food, I would have loved for the music set to be a bit longer. At least 90 minutes vs. 60. It seemed rather pricey for a 60 minute show. Thankfully, we didn't have to rush out of there so they could seat the next group of the next set, but it would have been great to have the option to stay for the second set as well as I was guessing they may have played different songs. We really enjoyed it and I would recommend it, but would love to see longer sets. :)
Food very good, but expensive.
Band (Kenneth Whalum) was very good.
Parking was across the street.
Service was good.
Cover charges on the website are not accurate. Prepare to be charged a lot more when making a reservation. You may be also be harassed by the staff if they don’t think you’re spending enough on food or drinks.
Really fun ambiance and atmosphere. Food was good. Music was awesome!
Great music. Some food is great, other things meh. Skip their cocktails, stick with wine or beer.
The servers may have been training someone but they were sporadic in when they came around. They would be there all at once or not at all with a long wait between check ins and then two or three really close together. Not a huge deal but wasn’t as smooth as it usually is. It’s also hard to get their attention because it’s loud and dark and you don’t want to interrupt the performers so it’s nice when they come around regularly as opposed to multiple times close together.
Great venue, service and music artists are level 1!
Wonderful venue for music and a cocktail. Food is quite salty, but still good
I go to Black Cat about five times a year. But my experience on NYE left me with a bad taste in my mouth. After charging my card $474, they tried to tell me I didn’t have a table when I got there! Made us wait and then stuck us in the back rather than at the bar, as the owner promised me on the phone. I could go on and on but the point is, I’m breaking up with this place. Looks like SF prices got to them as well :(
I love coming here! The music is always phenomenal and the venue is nice and intimate.
With my dude
Steak salad was pretty salty but I went there primarily for the music. That being said, food was better than I thought. Definately worth a second trip.
Cool jazz club. Small with a good vibe. Experience probably depends a lot on the band when you go. We went on a Sunday night 8:30 and it was half full so there were no crowds and service was easy to get when you wanted it.
We go for the music and atomosphere - very cool Jazz joint
The Black Cat is a great venue for watching live Jazz. Delicious cocktails too!
I loved the atmosphere and service but the bar sucks. They didn’t have anything I wanted to drink and they was common cocktail drinks. They didn’t even have favors Volka. The only juice as a chaser was orange juice and grapefruit juice. They made me a couple of their signatures drinks . They were not bad back I wouldn’t order them again. The bartenders and everyone was very professional and friendly. But I was very disappointed.
Michael, our server, was fantastic and with other servers very attentive. Jazz band was wonderful and entertaining.
Great times with the Israeli trio.
As close to a West Village jazz club that San Francisco has to offer, Black Cat brings some of the best acts from New York and around the globe to SF.
We had a great time. I originally made reservation for the wrong date and Aaron on the phone changed it with no problems. I am a vegetarian and mistakenly ordered a salad with fish in the salad dressing and it was changed at no cost to me although I offered to pay because it was my mistake. The musicians were very talented and we will be back.
It is in the tender part of the tenderloins so took Uber to and from with no problem.
Great place for music and vibe. If you’re looking for a gourmet dinner this isn’t the place. But for a great night out it’s a perfect cal.
Beautifully maintained historic venue. Welcomed by gracious hostesses. Nice upstairs bar with inventive drinks. Downstairs dining, bar, stage. Food was good. Great place for a date or special evening out. Dress to impress. Fantastic music. We saw TAMIR! (from Tel Aviv) - amazing talent. We will be back.
The Band Tamir was Great! Really enjoyed the show. Food was also very good .
Booked for 8:45; set finished at 8:40. Nothing until
10:15. Ugh, why have reservations for the music with no music. Wait at bar. Wait to pay tab for 10m. Pay tab and add a drink; guy adds 3 drinks. 10m to remove, no explanation. Go downstairs. Order. Forget half the food. Wait. Eventually eat. Food was great, drinks great, music great, waitress at end compd some of our stuff so not 1-star, but seriously?! Maybe we were unlucky.
Jazz band was good, as was the atmosphere, but we arrived in time for our 8:45 p.m. reservation and weren't seated until after 9:30 p.m. Once we were seated our server had a bad attitude, which didn't help things. I used to really like this venue, but it doesn't seem to be well run these days ... not sure I would go back unless there was a band playing I really wanted to see.
Great jazz joint with hip vibe. Reserve a table downstairs to be by the stage!
Amazing spot and super fun, service not great tho
Lovely ambiance and host and management were very helpful and accommodating all night.
I had a great experience. The music was extremely good.
The food was not very good.and the drink I ordered also.
The chairs were not comfortable.
But the music was excellent. So I forgot all other things.
Uncle was in town and we went to see the Jazz night, paying tix entry for a show and minimum order for dinner. Table that was given to us was behind part of a wall. For full price entry, 2 of our 5 seats could not see the stage. When we asked the staff they said we could stand in back for the music? Really helpful... especially since we didn’t get our food till Keyon went on stage. Really should not have been a table offered for $45 tix each entry fee.
Amazing evening!! The food, music, ambiance, service were all stellar. The music was so good tonight! Amazing menu, appeals to a wide variety of tastes and everything was fantastic. Thank you!
Seriously this place is badass! The talent was amazing and our waiter was very cool. Highly, highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a sophisticated evening out in San Francisco. Uber/Lyft highly recommended because the address is in the sketchiest part of the Tenderloin .
