El mejor lugar de jazz en San Francisco!
This is the place to go for a great and intimate jazz performance, in the cellar and go for the late set. We went to the early 7:30 set and came back for 11:30. The wonderful part of the last set is that people performing at other venues in Sf, including the SF Opera and SF Jazz stopped by and performed walk ons. Food and drinks are not cheap, but the cover charge is very fair. For the last set, we sat in the back of the room on high stools and had a great view. This takes you back to the old days of small night clubs with wonderful emerging talents. Lots of enthusiasm and lively engagement. You actually get to interact with the musicians. Cannot recommend it more.
Fantastic! We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and from the moment we walked through the doors we were whisked away to an enchanting night of tasty drinks, scrumptious food and excellent music! What a treat! Everything was above and beyond what we could have imagined. Try the espresso martini - it's amazing. Thank you :)
Confusing is their pricing structure. They don't clarify how much the seats would cost on booking. And then it is confusing about how long we can stay. Apparently you pay a certain amount for the first set of music and if you want to stay longer, one has to pay more. I still don't know. I haven't received a final receipt for the charge yet.
Such a fun venue. They couldn't have been nicer to us. Great table, wonderful music and very attentive. Even gave us two glasses of champagne and a candle in our dessert for our anniversary. Lovely evening!
Stopped in to see Irwin Hall and crew. Awesome small venue jazz club. The food was amazing, servers are friendly and the ambiance was perfect to enjoy the beautiful tunes.
F all the haters in the reviews. If you come to black cat and not have an amazing time, you have a problem with expectations. Tonight was my first time and I am still glowing after the experience. The food was great, the ambiance was amazing, and the band was incredible. 5 stars through and through
The Black Cat is a great place to go to hear great jazz in a small venue. We had dinner and shared some plates and it was just okay. The ahi had more avocado then ahi. I would go back but eat dinner first and stay for the music, drinks and snacks.
We were charged for event tickets that were not clearly communicated to us. When we book the reservation with open table, it was stated that we needed to spend minimum $20 per person. We already spent way more per person and paid it at the restaurant. I saw an additional $213 payment on my credit card statement that is taken from my account outside of my knowledge. This is a fraud.
Seating didn’t allow for any service, sat through the whole show without drinks or food
Excellent experience from food to service to music. A must visit.
Another epic evening at the Black Cat Downstairs. Outstanding performance by Casey Benjamin and his magnificent group of immensely talented musicians. On top of that was the delightfully prepared Pre Fixx dinners of starter, entree and dessert. The super friendly staff makes you feel like you're welcome to a private party and Amber our server was very accommodating. Love this place and is my go to respite from a challenging world.
Never gave us a choice where we wanted to sit. Just charged us the top price, stuck us on the side, and said it was VIP seating. BS !!! Service was poor and the entertainment was even worse.STAY AWAY
Amazing musicians; amazing food... great place
Swanky Jazz club celebrating 3 years of amazing music in the heart of the tenderloin. It was a packed house on a Saturday night. Grammy award winning musician Keyon Harrold lit up the joint. It was a special night! Thanks.
Excellent jazz and dinner club with fantastic music. Food is overpriced and not the most exciting, but generally pretty good. The ambiance and entertainment are the main attractions.
For the most part, it's a nice place. My only grip was I made reservations, as did others, I got a seat in the back (I assume it's first come first serve even with reservations so you can't reserve the tables up front). With that said, there were people standing in front of us with no seat. I would assume if you pay for a reservation that you everyone would be seated. filling out the place by letting those with no seats in only made is so everyone along the back seat could not see. So if you don't get there early, expect to get a table in the rear and no view of the stage through the people they let stand in the walkways.
Personally, if it were my place, I would have all the staff make sure no one is standing at all in front of anyone. if there are not seats - then don't let them in. it wasn't just a couple - there were many.
I felt the sets were way to short (being from the old school with the best players ever who played - to play). But for the small size of the club, it was ok.
Talking - just put a real announcer up there at the beginning and let the crowd KNOW they should not talk. Saying things that hint at being quiet does not get the message across. you need one host to be very clear - do not stand in front of anyone and - no talking during performance.
Salad was meh, fried chicken was great. price of drinks - ridiculous. 2 drinks - 31 dollars. price of food meh.
We had a table by the stage and waited over 45 minutes for a server, at which point I had to go track down someone on the wait staff just to order drinks. There’s a $20 drink minimum... how am I supposed to meet that if no on serves us? Anyway, the drinks were okay. We didn’t get food. The service was absent and didn’t care. The music was good, but if you sit in front you really can’t talk at all, which makes sense. The bar area was so loud that it often powered over the music. And the real kicker is that this site doesn’t tell you, but the tickets were like $50 each! When you make the reservation here on Open Table it does NOT disclose that. All in all I wouldn’t go back any time soon.
Awesome venue, the only complaint I have was that the musicians were over-amplified. It's a very small venue and these are professional musicians, they can easily play at the right volume to fill the space, as it was the volume was somewhat oppressive.
Great venue for music, but the food was not good. Stick to drinks and snacks.
Fantastic food, amazing music, and cozy atmosphere! You will not forget your time at The Black Cat Cafe. Timeless and unforgettable.
good food and good music in a good atmosphere. Good service
We sought VIP seats and were rewarded with front row seating. Food was amazing. Pigs in a blanket as well as blanched Shishito peppers wth great wine rounded out three perfect prelude to a mind blowing experience staring the group named the anachronistics. Check them out on Facebook or Instagram. Seriously cool fusion of Period Jazz and originals by William their leaf guitarist. After the show I asked him if he knew George Benson. He Dodd of course and claims to have " Breezin' " on his turntable. "Busted", he proclaimed. Check them out!. Cheers
Enjoyed everything, but was charged a reservation fee. Tried email and calling no call back or refund of reservation fee.
Live music and a meal! The music was great but I didn’t find the meal worth the money or that good. I had the fixed price selection of 3 items
The band wobbly world was excellent but the location of the Black Cat is awful stepping over homeless and drug addicts makes it feel as a very unsafe place. Also the tiny tables (once you had two glasses and a bottle of wine there was little any room left for the food) and the extreme loudness of the music would make me consider very carefully if I would return.
My favorite place in San Francisco. Jazz vocalist Lila Kane was AMAZING!!!
Food was great, as was the music and the service.
The one drawback was the location of our table - it was seated close to the stage, on the far right, and my partner had to turn 180 degrees to see the band. One of the drummer's drums was so loud and sharp that it was almost painful - just one of them, possibly the snare. I suspect it sounds better at other seats.
Great music! Definitely recommend for date night after dinner.
Great music, great cocktails and great food. Looking forward to going again next time we visit
Great ambiance. Fantastic venue for jazz. Chase Jackson band was spectacular. Had an extra dry Chopin potato vodka martini. Excellent. Shared appetizers very good. Service excellent.
Great place with Great food, when the show is running its very load so be ready to focus on the show as you wont be able to talk.. which is not a bad thing fyi
Loved The Earl Walter Group! Will definitely be coming back with family and friends.
We had a fantastic anniversary evening at Black Cat. Our first time there. The best way to see jazz: live, up close, in a supper club atmosphere. It was like visiting the Tenderloin in the 1950's. And the bands they put on are truly la creme de la creme. Plus attentive service, really good food, and exceptional drinks. We will be back for sure!
Excellent place for a great evening out. The atmosphere of "Downstairs" really puts one in a great mood for having a great, intimate jazz club experience. The dinners we had were well prepared and truly delicious. The folks working there, from the table setter to the wait staff to the "guy" who seemed to be very "on it" that our water glasses stayed full and fresh, were quite personable and focused on our comfort and enjoyment of the "experience".
I, we, look forward to returning sometime in the, hopefully, near future.
Thanks to all the staff, and of course to the musicians, for providing a memorable night in San Francisco.
It was my grandmas birthday last week. We’ve all been going through it because my grandpa is really sick. The black cat staff made it sooo awesome and fun her her !!! We were greeted by everyone with a happy birthday, even the band stopped and played her a birthday song. She was really happy so thank you so much black cat ! Will definitely recommend and be back soon !
Great place for a date night. Sit at the upstairs bar for the best choice of cocktails, and then make your way downstairs for the seated supper show. Aim to go down earlier rather than later for your particular sitting. To be honest, the seating is very cramped downstairs, and I would steer clear of being at the front as the you are right next to the stage. You wouldn't miss out on much being seated at the bar. When we visited we were 2 sets of tables back, and the sound of the jazz group was quite loud.
Food was nice, came quickly and staff were very attentive.
Great Jazz music venue. It’s a cozy, basement gem in the city where the food is surprisingly good. Really fantastic experience, I can’t wait to go back!
Nice jazz club and as usual with such places the food is just OK. Eat elsewhere & come for the music.
