We go there often. It is always crowded which is a testament to the fine food. They serve authentic tasting New Orleans dishes and the service is always good. I highly recommend it!
we went to the restaurant for the 1st time and it was very good. Our waiter Trinidad was awesome. He took his time with explaining and answering our questions. The serving sizes were good. The orange chicken was very good and so was the icebox cake! We enjoyed it so much we are taking our son back there for dinner this weekend.
Fabulous as always! Great food and drinks in a lively, welcoming, casual atmosphere!
Consistently good food and service
Great service, owners always there and make it a point to acknowledge customers. Food is excellent, always quality ingredients. It’s a gem❤️
What a great place! Took our friend here for his birthday and Bluegrass nailed it! Service was great, food was outstanding, they even personalized his birthday dessert plate - it was a lovely touch. It was Saturday night so the joint was hopping, but we could still easily converse. Highly recommend!
Outstanding food every time and great service
I’ve been to Bluegrass many many times over the years. The owners Jim and Joanie Lederer gave us personal attention as they do with all of their guests. I can’t recommend Bluegrass higher. The one word I can use to describe Bluegrass in Highland Park is, consistency.
This time I met to old buddies for dinner. We had great food, great beer, and great specialty cocktails. Two of us has vegan options which were delicious. I had the Veggie Jambalaya and one buddy had the Beyond Burger with a fantastic homemade relish. The other guy had the steak sandwich. The service was above and beyond. Diane is top notch but so is the entire staff.
Delicious. Attentive service. Family favorite. Wonderful barbeque chicken!
Consistently great food, service and vibe. Welcoming and friendly. Great mini martinis
Second time going here with work colleagues. Everyone loved there entree both times. On my first visit I ordered the seared tuna and the second I ordered the Tilapia Sassafras. Both were delicious. The only thing was that I must have missed that the tilapia was fried. I thought it was baked. So although delicious wont get that again. Others had the gumbo, ribs, chicken.
We had reservations and they were running a bit behind schedule, which was not a big deal to us at all. Once we were seated at our table and our drinks were brought to us, a server brought an appetizer to our table. We told them we hadn't ordered an appetizer and they told us it was ordered by the hostess because we had to wait longer than expected. Talk about being on top of their customer service game! The hostess and manager both checked in on us to make sure we were enjoying our meal and our server herself was absolutely fabulous. To top it all off, the food was downright delicious! We will most definitely stop in again when we are back in the Chicago area.
I live nearby in Northbrook and have never been to Bluegrass. One of the people in our party wanted ribs/bbq for dinner and Bluegrass came up in a Yelp search. I looked at the menu as other people in our group wanted something else to eat, and the menu is quite varied. Everyone loved their meal, Bluegrass was a wonderful discovery, we will definitely be back! The ribs, beans and potatoes were very good. I split the Canadian Walleye (pan-seared) and the Caesar salad (tasty and lightly dressed), delicious. And we loved the two bite desserts and the small portion sundae, the dessert menu was a treat! Overall a great experience.
The best ribs in area! Great service.
The walleye was excellent, service was pleasant and efficient. Chopped salad for the table was also quite good. The rest of our meal was average at best. The ribs were disappointing as they were dry but slathered in sauce -- not the Texas style as listed on the menu. The artichoke appetizer was soggy and unappealing. They took it off the tab. The dessert bites were a nice touch. We wanted to like the place as the menu was eclectic, the people were helpful, and it was certainly busy, but for the prices we felt like they could do better.
Service & food were excellent. But I wish they would do something about the noise level. It was hard to hear.
The have a new vegan, gluten free item that was excellent! Vegetable Jambalaya, so good!
This is my favorite restaurant in Highland Park. The owners couldn’t be better staff is wonderful, and the blueberry Martini is to die for. I have never had a bad meal there and refer it to people all the time. Love there two bite desserts. Try it you’ll like it
Our food was fantastic, and our server Stacey was so personable and attentive. We look forward to going more often after not being there for a few years.
Very noisy, surely there is something you can do with decor to help that. And bar service was slow.
Always an enjoyable meal at Bluegrass. Excellent BBQ blue burger. Great beer selection. Sat outside which was nice.
I just love this little gem of a restaurant. Any place I can get super yummy shrimp and grits is a good place indeed.
We grew up on Walleye in Minnesota. Bluegrass walleye is the greatest. Great service. Great bartender. Good value. We come every week when in HP.
We were going to Ravinia. We’re from the far western suburbs and didn’t have a clue of where to eat. We searched OT and many places were closed on Sunday. Bluegrass was open and we reserved our table for 4. Due to traffic and construction we were about 5-10 minimum late. We arrived, apologized for our lateness. The hostess couldn’t be more gracious and friendly! I’m sorry—I did not get her name, as I’d like to recognize her, as well! She was charming and delightful! She offered us outdoor seating. It was a beautiful, early evening!
SERVICE: One word, CHRISTIAN! What a super server! He answered all of our questions. AND there were a lot of questions, as you’ve got a lot of food choices! He recommended the Tavern ale, YUMMY! Baked beans with brittle—who had thought! We all had a different dish! Christian was always right there and the helpers who filled water glasses and picked up dishes were spot on! Then, to our surprise—a HUGE martini glass filled with vanilla ice cream, banana and hot caramel arrived! This was their thank you to us for choosing them!
Bluegrass was one of our finest meals out! Everyone and everything was above par and we thank you for a wonderful evening! We will make the trek out to see you!
We sat in a booth which was very helpful, noise wise. Our server was terrific, very intuned to us.
The menu creative, which is why we came. Our friends thanked us for "introducing them to Bluegrass".
In all of our dining occasions at Bluegrass (about a dozen in the past 3 years), we always have been very happy with the food, specialty drinks, and service. The host, hostess, and bartender are always welcoming and the staff appropriately attentive. The menu has delicious staples and seasonal additions, especially during Mardi Gras. Our nuclear family of five (2 sons and a daughter, all young adults) all agree on Bluegrass whenever a restaurant of choice is mentioned.
As always, the food here is first rate.
Beautiful night! Outdoor seating! Great beer on tap! Tasty vegan options !
Bluegrass is a perfect experience every time. We have introduced several friends to this charming eatery and they all return for lunch or dinner.
The food is excellent no matter what you order. The service is impeccable and the owners always stop by the table to check on the patrons. This is one of our faves.
We hadn’t been to Bluegrass recently and decided to go back. First, even though it was crowded on a Thursday night, our reservation was honored. Service was attentive but not overbearing. None of us opted for BBQ. We had fried shrimp, walleye and a skirt steak. Everyone in our party thought that the food was excellent. We will be back.
This is the second time I’ve taken my team to Bluegrass... they love the food, beer list, and casual atmosphere! What an awesome hidden gem!
Greatest walleye on the planet. Great service and great Manhattans.
We LOVE Bluegrass. The food is great, service excellent.
Everyone enjoyed their meal. Our server, Patrice, was great. We always have a wonderful meal at Bluegrass!
We are never disappointed when we dine here! The food, drinks, and service are all top notch!
The service was great as well as the smoked meat special. The brisket, ribs and chicken combo was delicious. We loved the corn casserole but it was a small portion. We will definitely come back.
Our experience at Bluegrass never disappoints - and this time was no different! It may have been one of our favorite meals we've ordered (seasonal smoked beef ribs and their seasonal Sangria!) The service is always outstanding - from the bartender to the wait staff. And it's always a pleasure to get to talk to owner Jim as he makes his way around to every table. We always wonder why we go anywhere else?!?
It's softshell crab season and that is what I had for dinner. It was good, not the best I've ever had, and very expensive. We had a good time and would definitely go back.
