My partner and I were really looking forward to a meal at Bourgee, sadly we were left disappointed. Both of our steaks were undercooked. The noise level was far too much, music is loud so people were talking louder to be heard.
Food very poor quality and service was slow. Website suggest live dj on friday and saturday evenings but this is definitely not the case. Very disappointing and wont be returning any time soon
We love this restaurant . Had another lovely meal .
Quiet restaurant but i suppose the old January blues
Service really good and food was great value
Music was a bit loud but I suppose we were the only ones
Will tell my friends.
Real good roast dinner with family
Worth a visit good service
Had a lovely meal with my fiancé.
Great food and drinks, lovely service, great ambience. Will come back
Brillant service and the food was Lovely
Our experience here was awful. We waited for 90 minutes between our starter and main course, then again for dessert. The beef was very chewy, the Wellingtons pastry was extremely stodgy and not very nice. The cheesecake was hard, where we suppose it had stood waiting. I will not be returning nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was very loud and badly organised. However our waitress was very apologetic and very nice .
Went with another couple for a special night
As soon as we walked in there was an awful smell,
we went to the bar and had few drink that’s was nice.
Then we asked to be seated and ordered our food the starters came out fairly quickly my mozzarella tomato and avocado salad was lovely (can’t really go wrong with that) but the others didn’t enjoy theirs and they ordered the crispy duck.
Took another hour before our mains arrived we all ordered the fillet steak which £30 before any sauces or sides!
My steak was awful extremely fatty and my chips were overdone and hard I left most of it. Only one of us had a desert she ordered the chocolate smash bomb? Very strange they cleared the table and placed a plastic mat in the middle then smashed what looked like an Easter egg onto the table them chucked some fruit at it and squirted some cream all over it, the chocolate tasted like an out of date Easter egg so maybe it was ! as that’s what it did actually look like.
I complained about my steak and they did take some money off however we still paid £75 per person
I’d been to Bourgee in Southend before it closed we were hoping this one would change our minds about it but unfortunately not. It’s extremely overpriced for the quality of the food, if your going to charge London prices for a steak it needs to be faultless and needless to say we won’t be returning and I wont be recommend this restaurant.
The food was lovely and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, had a wonderful time.
Great quality food & very good service. Will definitely be visiting again soon.
Great food in a very nicely designed restaurant . Felt New York
Service was decent and my wife loved the cloakroom somewhere to keep the shopping while we dined
Nice addition to Chelmsford
Very busy restaurant! The staff working hard to ensure everyone was having a great time our service was still very good despite how busy it got . Few new staff that look like they are training but it looked like they loved their job.
Food was hot and tasty and we personally all loved the desserts.
Cocktails are extremely delightful.
Music was loud at times that ruined some moments
Wait time was awful, was never enough cutlery or glasses brought out, only took half of our tables coats when they asked us, rude waitress who was uninterested in helping us with the wait time, music was very random for the upmarket vibe the appearance of the restaurant implies, small circular table for six individuals, other waiters clearly didn’t know what was going on, bar maid was very unhelpful and the communication between bar and waiting staff was terrible being asked the same questions over and over or not receiving drinks when asked. Only positive was the food was actually very nice however starters were very small and price was very high considering the amount and actually the wait time. Would not recommend or return.
It’s such a shame as we loved Bourgee before they closed down. So was hoping the quality of food and service would be the same, unfortunately the wait was too long, there didn’t seem to be enough staff and the staff didn’t know what they were doing. The quality of the steak was not up to standards which is such a shame because we really hoped it would be like how it was before.
Great staff , we are regulars and Rumesh and Chris always make us feel welcome . It’s hard to find a venue that has staff that have personality. Thank you both for always looking after us
We are glad your back and hope you don’t go away any time soon
Best cocktails 🍹 we will see you both soon have a nice Xmas
Great service and food
Heard from a colleague at work that Bourgee Chelmsford was open again. Booked straight away. Chose from the Sunday set menu. Bourgee food is in the top 10 best foods I have tasted. It is great to see Bourgee Chelmsford open again. I had the duck and kale starter, which I have not stopped thinking about. So tasty. Followed by the Sunday Roast Beef, which was exceptional. Not had a bad meal in Bourgee, but this was outstanding. Need to come back again soon.
Fabulous food, great atmosphere, very attentive staff
I was there Saturday service was very poor and eventually get up and pay the bill at the bar after 20 mins waiting the starters were very poor but dinner was nice but still had to wait for steak knife 10 mins later got 1
nice enjoyable day at bourgee , service was great and cocktails were excellent
Our experience with Bourgee this time round was better as staff seemed more experienced however an issue with the bill at the end which was on Bourgees side put a dampener on it. Everyone paid above their food order and the correct amount was paid, it was counted more than 5 times and yet there seemed to be one card payment missing even though everyone had a receipt to show they had paid. There was clearly an error on your system and after spending £400+ you’d think you’d let it go rather than asking us to fork out for the error which was around £25. Let the experience down so that would put me off from coming back which is a shame because every thing else was good.
We have never been let down with Bourgee . A real dining experience with incredible atmosphere and service.
The plates were not overly hot but the food was . Waiter ensured our glasses were full and we ended up drinking 2 bottles of white which we didn’t plan to.
We have booked our Christmas meal with family and looking forward in returning!
Glad u are back . Food was tasty and service hasn’t dropped since closing
We had a lovely lunch , it was cosy and the service was great. The two waiters were friendly and made the experience worth while. Drinks little expensive for lunch but I can see people don’t mind paying with the level of London service.
It’s the second time we have been here and won’t be the last.
This was the first time we had been to Bourgee. Personally I don't eat big meals so one course was more than enough. The waitress made a couple of mistakes but they had been rectified. There were only a couple of tables occupied all the time we were there. It was a Monday so maybe that was why. We went for my daughter's birthday so I feel as it is expensive it is for special occasions only.
Best Sunday roast & steaks in Chelmsford.
Great service with affordable prices and top quality products. The interior looks very well presented as we haven't seen anything similar in Chelmsford.
We will definitely be back and recommend to our friends/family this lovely venue.
Our waitress Bella was very knowledgeable and friendly nothing was too much trouble.
Thank you Bella
From start to finish everything was brilliant. Tasty food, very attentive service, lovely atmosphere. Cater very well to Coeliacs with one of the best Gluten Free menus I’ve seen (Steaks aren’t on the menu but are fine) and they also have a separate fryer for chips. 5* from me
Amazing food excellent service brilliant atmosphere
The lunch menu differed to what was on their website.
I ordered the beef short crust pie, they incorrectly brought up the vegetarian pie. I sent it back and had to wait 10 mins for my food by which point my husband had finished his food. Instead of it being a short crust pie it was a shepherds pie. It was quite nice but not what I ordered.
My husband ordered the minute steak and it was tiny and just not very nice.
Disappointing as we had been to the restaurant previously before it closed down and we had a very nice meal.
Mark is back in business in Chelmsford and Bourgee is just as great as it ever was.
We had Sunday lunch there and the food was well presented, and tasted great.
The place was however totally empty!
Everyone get your backsides back down here, you aren’t going to find a better Sunday roast in the area.
Look forward to the next visit - Shane Southend isn’t back too, the venue there was lovely too!!
Sunday roast with my little family was perfect!
We had the best time celebrating last weekend.
Staff are amazing and the customer experience is incredible.
we shared a selection of starters followed by steak, everything was cooked perfect!
Highly recommend to anyone.
P.s welcome back
Best service best food best venue simple
Just amazing, highly recommended to everyone
Food was amazing and service was first class
A fabulous evening from start to finish. The food, drinks and staff were all excellent. The team really cared that we were having a great experience.
The food was really exceptional and the staff were attentive and really professional.
Attentive, friendly service and we couldn't fault them. Will come again.
Cant believe your back.
We came last night to a full Monday night.
Glad to see some old staff . we had a lovely time.
lobster was incredible.
