Brasserie Le Benaix
Lovely restaurant serving great food. Four of us went for dinner on 6 December and selected from the fixed-price Christmas menu. Plenty of choice, and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the beef bourguignon which was absolutely delicious - a large chuck of beef rather than the usual pieces, and melt in the mouth. The hake was also really good. Shame though that given this was a fixed, Christmas menu, that you had to pay extra for vegetables - a whopping £8 for a selection of veg (carrots, peas etc), and a further £3.50 for a portion of red cabbage!
Service was very good, and the wait between courses being just right.
I would definitely go again - they should just incorporate the price of the veg into the meal.
Food was lovely, but the whole experience was let down by the service. We were only offered one drink all night, waitress didn’t know what the dessert was so had to ask another (which is fine, obviously new). Jackets were taken at the start but not told where to collect them at the end of the night, had to rummage through the coat hook when leaving. Drink orders were taken then someone else came over asking if we wanted drinks. It’s all the little things that make the evening and lithos was my husbands birthday, I felt a little disappointed, but the food was delicious!!
Absolutely stunning place. Food was out of this world. Waiting staff attentive. Beautiful surroundings. Will highly recommend.
Great food and service. Had the December set menu which was great value for quality and portion size, crab stater was excellent.
Very nice decor and ambiance. Food was lovely but service extremely slow on our lunch visit which may have been due to staff shortage but did spoil our experience as this was a treat for a special occasion.
A lovely restaurant with fantastic food and super service. Will definitely be returning.
Excellent food and service. Much better that the meal comes with all vegetables on your plate with extra placed on the table for everyone to enjoy.
Lovely not to be crowded in good atmosphere relaxing
Good food good quality rib
Service could have been a little
Bit more efficient with clearing glasses
Very nice Sunday lunch
This the first time that we have eaten here and we certainly weren’t disappointed. The food was excellent and the staff were extremely attentive. We will definitely return.
Nice food, great service although not much on the menu that I liked so limited selection
Another outstanding meal with great service, superb food in great surroundings
Visited mid week to try out the restaurant and could not fault the food or environment though service could have been a little quicker.
Great environment, especially as they provide lots of space between tables and don't cram you in.
Having experience the place mid week we would definitely come back on a weekend.
Excellent lunch as always, service impeccable can’t wait until our next meal with you.
As always, Le Benaix came up with the goods. Slight problem with our vegetables but this was all perfectly rectified and resolved. Back again in a couple of weeks!
Came here for Sunday lunch for our anniversary. Service was wonderful and food was absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to come back and bring friends/ family with me!
Lovely food good friendly and efficient service . Quiet for a Saturday night so lacked a bit of atmosphere but will definitely return maybe for a fixed price menu as the a la Carte quite pricey
This was only our 2nd ever visit since La Benaix opened (we usually go to their sister restaurant in Heybridge, Le Bouchon) but after the meal we had on Friday we will trying them again soon. We had the king prawn starter between us. And absolutely loved it. And then both had amazing main courses. We will be back, soon.
Most definitely would recommend this restaurant to a friend and have already done so previously which received very positive feedback..
Very nice meal but portions could have been little larger. The bowl of cauliflower cheese for 5 people was delicious but tiny -had a teaspoon size each!
I booked this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend for my 40th wedding anniversary lunch. The staff were friendly & very helpful but not overbearing, they checked with us occasionally if everything was ok but not all the time which we appreciated. Although the restaurant was full it didn't feel that way and we never felt rushed to finish as has happened elsewhere. The food was very good and the portion size was enough to feel pleasantly full at the end but not bloated. I have already recommended it to a few of my friends.
Our visit was to celebrate my friend’s Birthday. I understand from her family that she’s still talking about the evening and how much she enjoyed the whole experience.
A very enjoyable evening. Well spaced tables with nobody ‘touching’ our shoulders. Staff were very friendly and polite and we were served in a very professional way.
Food was to a high standard, cooked and presentation. Price even though we were ‘early birds’ with 25% off was still costly, however, the ambiance, the staff and the quality food really outweighs the high cost.
Lovely restraint with great ambiance. Quite noisy with children/ babies.
Veg option was cold and returned.
Apart from that good meal.
Staff not as helpful or attentive as previous visit.
Walked into the building, with no one around, eventually a lady came from out back. No one greeted us.
We chose to have a drink prior to our meal. Surrounding us was pleasent decor with modern times and fittings. Our drinks were served. We were given a menu to choose from. Both of us opting for the Lamb Roast. We were shown to our table. Restaurant bright, clean with a few other dinners. 3/4 staff waiting. We eventually ordered our meal. After 35-40 we were served what looked an appertizing lunch. Lamb is tricky, and can often be fatty, goodness this was bad. Duck fat! Every mouthful of Yorkshire pudding was saturated. Roast potatoes, undercooked. Extra veg ordered, cauliflower cheese sour, carrots swimming in butter? Jus? Salty coloured water. We left most of the meal commenting on it when plates were collected, with a promise of mentioning to chef. There were other issues around the restaurant from other diners. We were given dessert menus, and no one came to us to take the order, so after waiting 20 minutes, we cut our losses. Paid and left. 2 male staff 1 lady, undeniably rushed of their feet. Disappointed in service. Disappointed in food. Considering the script on the web site as being smart casual dress code, a young man walked in to dine while we were there in short sports shorts.
On the whole somewhere that has nice surroundings, but very poor service and food.
Very good experience, food was excellent and service was the same, we wasn’t rushed at all and had plenty of time between courses. Would definitely go back. Cost I thought was good, comparable to other restaurants with high standards as their own.
We were celebrating my sons 21st birthday. The food was excellent as was the service. I had the catch of the day which was Sea Bream. It was perfectly cooked and such great value for money. The only thing that could have improved It was a different gluten free bread offering. The single white slice looked so out of place next to the amazing dishes served up.
Lovely place, very good food although be aware they serve small portions in common with many good restaurants. High end a la carte prices but they do a reasonable set menu. The portion die suited us 5 ladies but we thought it might not have been enough food for our other halves. We had the duck breast, a fillet steak that melted in your mouth, a lamb and a chicken dish - all delicious as were the puddings. A very palatable Chilean Sauvignon Blanc washed it down. The waiter Khalifa was very pleasant, helpful, attentive and, unasked, brought a ‘Happy Birthday’ plate with a candle for my sister. We thought it was charming and she was tickled pink. Quite slow service but that suited us too as we wanted to chat and make an evening of it. Overall a very good experience. We would go back. H - and plenty of parking.
Not cheap but excellent quality food, service and venue.
Been a few times now and always excellent.
The level of flavour in the food never fails to amaze me!!
First gourmet tasting event and it was a great success. The only problem is poor acoustics due to the design and lack of soft furnishings in the restaurant area. Very difficult to talk when busy!
Always a pleasure to eat here. Food and service second to none.
very poor service but food was very good and for this reason we wont be going back
We had a great evening, the food was delicious and our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Another superb evening at Le Benaix. We had family over frm New Zealand on this occasion and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. For the rest of us it was a welcome return to our favourite restaurant! Food, as always, delicious. Desserts and cocktails as inventive as always!
Excellent food & service but only had starter main and coffee plus couple of drinks bill came to £96 think a bit OTT for Sunday lunch
Le Benaix is mine and my wife’s favourite restaurant, the food is always formal, if you want gastro pub food and gastro pub prices go to a gastro pub, Le Benaix is far superior than that
Visited for a birthday lunch. Sat in garden which was beautiful but a bit noisy as next to main road. Food delicious, espresso martini amazing. Staff polite and attentive.
suitable for business and pleasure.
car park could do with a little more lighting
A great restaurant with everything needed for an occasion or just an intimate meal out.
Excellent food and excellent service so really does show you get what you pay for!
