Food very disappointing based on previous visits. Entrees served lukewarm. Drinks were good.
This is an unremarkable restaurant. The menu is French, but the food doesn't taste French. The restaurant is at the third ownership (the first owner was French). The menu is unchanged, but the food tastes completely different. Meh. Service is OK.
We reserved listing our anniversary as the special occasion. The restaurant was short-staffed. Server had to take orders, prepare drinks and wait on both indoor and outdoor guests. One bus person who was very efficient. Saw several people walk away from outdoor tables because of lack of service. I don’t know if someone called in sick or the restaurant is always staffed with only 2 people. Waitress was efficient but not overly friendly. No mention was made about our anniversary or our Open Table reservation. The menu has a good variety of choices and is reasonably priced. Lots of competition in the area and a pleasant evening brought many people out to dine. Food quality was good and we enjoyed our meal.
Eight people with different choices were absolutely satisfied and loved all the dishes
Excellent selection and very authentic french cuisine loved the specials
The crab cakes were salty. The sole special was very wet and not worth the price. The burger bread was super dry and the meat itself was very tough and dry with bland flavor. The menu indicates Roquefort cheese but had just a little bit of shredded dried up cheddar cheese. For a Friday night and no crowd at all, they were out of peaches and out of calamari. Won’t be going back.
Cafe Brioche is one of our local go-to restaurants. We have had many exceptional meal experiences. Unfortunately this visit was marred by two cold mussel orders. The orders arrived cold and were returned to the kitchen. When they arrived back to the table they were warmer but not hot and now the mussels were rubbery. We were not charged for them which was gracious but as it should have been. Everything else was excellent as it has been for years. Everyone can have a bad day.
Been going for years and still a favorite.
We enjoyed our dinner there very much about one-year ago and wanted to go there again. But we were disappointed by:
1. Table bread served 3 pieces for 4 people. Butter was rock-hard.
2. We ordered steak medium but served well-done.
We suspected there may have been an ownership change - not worth any recommendation.
Excellent food. Service was a little slow considering the restaurant was not at all full.
The service was very underwhelming, they forgot my husband’s meal and the food was meh. So surprising that it was so busy!
I love here , I been here couple times its favorite spot for us. Definitely recommended all you guys. Brunch menus really good too
The menu had many options to choose from. I ordered the beef stew with mashed potatoes and carrots and my friend ordered skirt steak. Both were delicious! The service was great... we enjoyed the evening.
One of Our very favorite restaurants ! We love the specials as well as the main menu.
Love the salmon w the merlot sauce on the side.
Special of pork loin w blue cheese and asparagus was a perfect blend.
My husband ALWAYS gets the coq au vin- loves it.
Bouillabaisse was a great combo of food sh and broth.
My friend and I wanted a little Prosecco and our waiter let us share a tiny bottle.
No desserts, but they are wonderful.
Great wine and beer selections.
I think I would have to go here a few more times to really say a lot about Cafe Brioche but our lunch experience was very good. We had very good and friendly service. We ordered two Caesar Salads and an appetizer which were tasty and fresh. I would come back and try more items on the menu and recommend for lunch to others.
I was there for lunch and highly recommend any salad and we added salmon to it. Mussels are also excellent.
Mistakes happen - it’s how you handle it that makes a difference. When we’re still waiting for our dinner over an hour after ordering, when numerous tables that arrived after us have been served, you’ve probably forgotten to put our order in. You can a.) apologize and explain, or b.) avoid us to the point you don’t even refill empty water glasses, and not apologize for the wait. A simple ‘sorry for the wait’ would’ve made all the difference, but sadly that wasn’t what happened. At least the food - when it finally arrived - was decent. After dining here for over a decade, I don’t think I’ll be going back.
The food was very good. The kitchen ran out of a key ingredient for the appetizer we ordered, but the waiter didn't charge us so that helped.
I would recommed this place if you just want to have a dinner and not expecting to much.
Great place to get a flavorable meal. Reasonably price. The menu selections need to be changed. Same offering for way to long.
Always a pleasure to eat at Cafe Brioche because of the excellent service and the great food! I had planned on having the hamburger and fries, because they do such a superb job of preparing, but I ended up ordering the steak sandwich instead. Also delicious! My dining companion LOVED her portobello mushroom sandwich, too. She said she is very much looking forward to going back and having that again. I will try that next time, which will be very soon.
Great service... Ordered cassoulet and mussels... Overall great outstanding dishes... Will definitely recommend.. As a start a beer salad, the dressing was light and delicious outstanding
What happened to Café Brioche?....
We've been here several times over the last couple of years, and the food and service have always been excellent. This time they were unrecognizable:
* The service was consistently sluggish. It took a while from when we were seated for someone to bring us menus and take our wine order.
* Food was very slow coming out.
* I ordered the mushroom ravioli, which came out not very hot and was completely bland. 2-3 raviolis had hard edges as if they weren't completely cooked.
* We had to ask another waiter to find our waitress toward the end of our meal so we could order s second glass of wine.
* The family sitting next to us noticed us looking around for our waitress and mentioned the food & service was very disappointing for them as well this time around.
This is really too bad, as we've always loved coming here and have brought my mom along in the past. We almost brought our friends this time but they couldn't make it; in the end, we were relieved as I think we would have had to apologize to them.
We're on the fence about ever coming back. We want to experience the Café Brioche we remember, but if it's anything like this again, we won't be back.
Food was delicious. Service great. Lovely place
Always one of our favorite places in Palo Alto, the food mimics eating in a French country kitchen and the ambiance is pleasant, quiet enough for conversation and with soft music in the background. Wine list is not extensive but more than sufficient, with some very nice selections. Service has always been courteous and unobtrusive. We have recommended the restaurant to others who have always thanked us later.
We have been fans and good customers of Brioche for years.
We brought some friends there for dinner last week (they had never been there) and were terribly sorry that we did.
Two of us had Cassoulet and it wasn't good. Meat tough and tasteless, sausage tasteless too. A lot of beans and that was it.
One person had Mussels and they weren't very hot nor tasty.
At end of dinner I approached the desk to mention our experience and got no response. Sort of too bad.
Very surprising and disappointing.
We have enjoyed Cafe Brioche for many years but were disappointed at our most recent visit. The beef bourguignon was dry and the sauce thin. Usually the meat is juicy and the sauce rich. The chicken was dry as well. We ordered the grilled octopus but were served escargot. There appeared to be only one waitress supported by one server so it is possible they were understaffed in the front and the back for the evening and dishes were being overcooked.
Although I planned on ordering the skirt steak with arugula, I was told that they are sold out of both.
Consequently, I ordered the duck breast. After finding out that it is normally served medium rare, I ordered it medium well, as I don't like rare meat. Unfortunately, the slices I received were tough and dried out, despite the fact that some pink remained in most of the pieces.
There are so many good places to go in the area that Cafe Brioche just doesn't make the cut for me.
Disappointing food experience at Cafe Brioche. The service was good but the tuna on my salad was fine where it had reached medium rare. The rare bite was grainy and tasteless. I didn’t eat anymore of it because the mouthfeel was pretty disgusting. It was a business lunch so I ignored the food and paid the outrageous Palo Alto price of 20 bucks for raw spinach, a boiled egg, some capers and the nasty tuna. The bread was nice, but it completely confuses me when they use foil wrapped butter pats instead of just serving a little bit of butter.
The beef and duck breast were very tough! Hard to chew!
The food, service, ambiance and noise level were all very good. The only reason I wouldn't recommend this place is because of the fruit flies (gnats?)
This is one of my favorite spots for brunch. A recent visit for lunch left much to be desired. The location and service were great. However, the meal did not live up to the standards I have had during many brunch visits.
As usual Cafe Brioche d not disappoint. We’ve been coming to this cute French bistro for many years and it is always delicious. This time I had the skirt steak which was prepared perfectly with crunchy fries and a side salad f arugula salad. We also had their tasty Cesar salad with anchovies. We ate never disappointed here.
We were celebrating our 26th year Anniversary and the restaurant sent over two glasses of Champagne! All I can say is WOW!
Party of 4 on a Sunday night ~ 6:30. Food and service were good until about 3/4 through dinner our sever stopped making timely visits to our table.
Excellent food, cocktails and desert. Good, friendly service.
We have been here many times and the food was always great. Last night I ordered the steak frite. I have never seen a steak cut so thin and smothered with too much sauce. The salad with it had purely lemon on it and was inedible. The fries were great. I’m disappointed in the quality of the steak. It must have been 1/4” thick
Small, but excellent menu with French inspired California style food. Sidewalk tables are lovely in good weather.
Very good French. Small but outside seats if you like that. No bar but they make cocktails - had a martini to start and it was well made. Started out with Burrata and it was delicious. Bouillabaisse for entrée and it was fantastic. A French restaurant with a French menu (as opposed to some of the others). Coq au vin, cassoulet, steak poivre, moules & frites (wife had it), duck. Will be back for the cassoulet or coq au vin. Good espresso. They also have 1 of my favorite Syrah's - spice rack. Recommend.
