Cafe Claude is on a little lane - immediately charming-indoor/ outdoor seating- tres French. Escargot - yum. Trout almondine- just as yummy - pate- lovely and of course dessert. Always a SanFrancisco stop for us.
The duck confit and onion soup were both superb. Salad was very good as well, almost too large to finish.
WIll definitely be back.
Nice setting with a Parisian vibe, but more like the tourist restaurants in Paris than the good restaurants. There was nice quiet live jazz playing but earlier it had been noisy radio. Food just fine but pretty standard fare. Duck confit was superb but cow au vin was mediocre at best.
We ordered standard French dishes, duck confit I had escargots, also both delicious. One comment about the great wine list - varied, affordable, and a nice selection of wine by the glass. We will go back if we have an event in the area.
Cafe Claude was absolutely amazing! Absolutely loved the mussels with saffron, sooo good. Everyone said their meals were fantastic, and thought the ambience was perfect. Our servers were so wonderful to my family.
We love Cafe Claude-cozy and welcoming with great food!
Great place as always. Nice to see they have expanded. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Wonderful meal, beautiful restaurant and great service! Loved this place!!
Food was very good, and the service excellent. We had booked 2 weeks ahead, but were led to a (dark) back table near the bathroom door. We asked to change and were graciously accommodated. Unfortunately there was a corporate holiday party in the bar, which made the center room noisier than we would have liked. We could enjoy a nice live jazz band coming from the party, but when the band ‘took 5’ the sound track was nasty and not conducive to conversation. Our ‘ special occasion’ - a 75th birthday was acknowledged with 2 nice macarons and a candle. We had not asked for more. Next time I would ask to be seated in the room farthest from the bar, which is cosier and more conducive to conversation
For a great gathering and dining experience in San Francisco, Cafe Claude is at the top of my list. It's tucked away in an alley and I feel like I've left the city entirely and am enjoying a reasonably priced (though not cheap) meal in France. Never rushed, consistently good food and very professional staff.
We have been coming to the always charming Cafe Claude for over 20 years, and it is one of the few holdouts to have lasted since we first moved to the Bay Area. Somehow they always manage to take a simple premise—French bistro food—and keep it dependably, reliably good. Now they've expanded into the space next door, so there's space for a tasteful jazz band. They used to cram musicians into the dining space, which made for a tight squeeze. A warm and cozy spot in fall and winter. More casual dining in Claude Alley available in the spring and summer. It's one of our go-tos for special occasion lunches, post shopping and holiday time dinners. It's a special place.
This place makes you feel as if you are in the Latin Quarter in Paris, with better food! I can’t wait to go back!
Cafe Claude is consistently delicious with delightful service.
Cafe Claude's cuisine is exceptional. Two of us had the coq au vin which was perfectly prepared. My husband's mussels were delicious and my nephew raved about his steak frites. All of our appetizers were also excellent. We will happily return.
Carlos the sever was fantastic. Jazz combo was excellent. Food was delicious. Ambience was wonderful.
Great environment and decent food; terrible service.
We really liked the ambience, the food was excellent and good service as well.
Have had lunch and dinner within the last 2 months. Trout and chicken roti were fantastic. Service has been exceptional (Kim both times). Chocolate cake was a great ending. Very pleasant evening with live jazz. Would definitely come back to this hidden gem.
Excellent hidden gem in downtown San Fran! We had a lovely business dinner.
Excellent experience. Everyone I interacted with working at the restaurant seems to be passionate about providing the best service possible. I would definitely come back.
Burned my fingers on warm chocolate cake dish was way too hot. Duck confit rather dry and not enough seasoning. Steak was grass fed which never tastes as good as corn fed—wish there has been corn fed steak option. Not enough food selections. Tuna nicoise and deviled eggs were so-so. Everything was just okay, not great. Best part was the live music—I really enjoyed that a lot.
Carlos is the best waiter! We love coming here because of him. And of course the good food.
Absolutely awful-food was not well executed, service was slow and awkward, and we discovered at the end of the meal that our bread had mold on it. Mold. The only decent thing was the chocolate mousse dessert. Definitely will not be returning.
Great food! Enjoyed the ambience and the quaint setting.
The waitress who served our table was a bit rude. We asked for the next (empty) table to be connected with ours, she said “sure!”, but no action for 15 min. Until my guest arrived and we just had to move the table ourselves for my guest to be seated
Great service and food in a good location. I would return if in the area
A great way to celebrate my birthday while visiting San Fransisco for the first time. Excellent service! Loved the way they made my birthday extra special. Great atmosphere, loved the live jazz music. I wanted to eat more but I was stuffed!
A good classic French cuisine in San Francisco.
Food is good, jazz music excellent, nice service
Keep it like that, please.
When we were first seated, someone came over and offered us sparkling water, implying it was complimentary. We were surprised to then see him bring a bottle of a French sparkling water ( we thought they had a house sparkling water on tap as some places do) which of course appeared on the bill. And food was uninspired.
Lovely lunch. Frisée salad with smoked chicken breast. Superb
I’ve been to Cafe Claude for business lunches in the past. This was my first dinner. Everything was excellent.
Loved the food and service. was excellent
We went on a Sunday evening. It took 20 minutes to get drinks and an hour for our meal. My duck confit was chewy. My wife did like her coqauvin. I would not recommend this place. It was my favorite for many years when I was living n the City.
Has a great ambiance. The waiters were amazing.
I hadn't been to Cafe Claude for years and was delighted to find they have expanded, now have jazz music and the food is still delicious and authentic. Service was very attentive. It's possible to have a conversation here, even with the music. We will definitely be back.
De Carlos, the host, was warm and welcoming from the moment we stepped into the front door. Our prior request for a quiet spot was already planned for. Ondine, our waitress, was a wonderful FRENCH surprise, and was SUPERB! Her recommendations for wine was very well thought out (she could be a sommelier), as well as her knowledge of the menu!
We weren’t in a hurry, and thoroughly enjoyed the Escargot, trout, and the cheese board. All was absolutely amazing and we have traveled the world, so you won’t be disappointed. A tru bit of France in the heart of San Fran. Thanks so much. Mary & JC
Very intimate. We were able to “pull back the throttles” and relax.
I sliced my hand open real good
Best date night! Good for adult night out groups too. Great place to enjoy live music. Had the specials, which were paired nicely with the wine suggested by our server; and the escargot was fantastic! Tucked away in an alley, made it feel extremely fun and romantic.
Pricey ,however the food and ambiance was excellent.
