California Fish Market Restaurant
We've been there before and had a different experience. This one was very average and our waiter for whatever reason was combative. Also, we ordered a bottle of wine off of the wine list. We even did a tasting of two that we considered. We chose one but when we got the bill we noticed it did not match with the bottle at the table. We looked it up online and noticed we were paying 3.5x of retail. So different wine plus a huge markup is not going to win us back. We mentioned this to our waiter who got combative and then proceeded to throw the owned under the bus. A quick apology and perhaps throw something in would have changed our mood leaving. There were other areas where the waiter was a bit off putting and combative.
The first time we dined here every thing: food, service ambience was outstanding. This last experience was horrible, it was like the staff was doing us a favor. The scallops were over seared and undercooked. The portions were small.
We opted to sit outside because of Covid. The food and service was excellent but paying $150.00 to sit at plastic tables and chairs in a side alley that was super windy lost the appeal. Their dining room looks really nice and I look forward to eating inside when it feels safer to do so.
Decent food. Service was slow.
Dining under little Italian flags and a string of lights, out in the alleyway on a warm summer evening, was everything a great meal in North Beach should be!
Been here plenty of times before and it’s always a lovely time. Service is great, food is amazing, & thank you for a sweet birthday <3
Come here for great fish and pasta. If you like fish and chips, theirs are great. Otherwise, I highly recommend you have the Pasta Alle Vongole (clam pasta), or the grilled fish platter which we shared. They also do an amazing Crab Pasta.
The food was barely acceptable, ordered and paid extra for kumamoto oysters (small and light flavored). We live close to tomales bay and buy kumamoto often, these were not kumamoto, they were very large and milky. I ordered spaghetti neri, the clams were fresh enough but the squid was extremely rubbery and chewy, the pasta was not done al dente. Probably wont be back soon.
Amazing. Everything was so delicious and fresh and the service was spot on. Servers were nice and accommodating. I can’t wait to return!
Riquisimo todo, y orecios razonables oara lo que sirven
Delicious food. Beautiful presentation.
This is the third time we have had lunch here. Always excellent with lovely service. We’ve had the pastas, the fish and chips…all great fresh and well prepared. Lots of outdoor space as well as inside tables.
Every year for our annivaersary, my wife and I decide to try a new dining experience, and we decided to try the Cal Fish Market because we were looking forward to hangin around North Beach for our 24th.
I made the reservation on Opentable and put that it was our anniversary, which was helpful because after we were seated (we chose outside in the parklet), our server immediately brought us two glasses of Prosecco in stemless glasses to celebrate! Nice touch to start the evening.
We wanted oysters and my wife wanted scallops, and our server was very helpful in providing recommendations with the types of oysters and other menu questions. The combo oyster plate that our server suggested was great because we got to try all of the varieties and they all had delicious and unique qualities! Yum!
The prices for entrees were very reasonable and we ordered a house bottle of Sauvignon Blanc to accompany our meal, which was crisp and delicious. My only wish next time is to have the waiter keep a copy of the wine list on our table, but that is a small criticism given that there is a QR code on the outside tables also. If I really wanted to choose I probably could have scanned and looked there.
Our server and food runners were very responsive and took a great deal of care into making sure we were satisfied, even giving us a slice of Tiramisu to cap off our experience. We cannot wait to come back again and we appreciated the extent of care and detail the staff put into making sure we were happy. It is so great to be back dining out again!
So delicious! Outstanding service.
Our entire family came here for Father's Day lunch. The food is excellent and the service very attentive. We have dined here several times and it has always been a positive experience. And the owners are sincerely appreciative of loyal customers. We will come back as often as we can.
Awesome food and drinks!!!
Great food, great service, and great ambiance! Highly recommend!
Everything was quite unremarkable here. Food was uninspired. Beverage selection average.
Obviously they were very busy and a bit hectic with the reopening, but it was a fun energized atmosphere. We sat inside at frankly not a very good table despite having reservations. We ordered simple dinners and they were ok, but if we go again will try to experiment with the fancier dishes.
Very friendly atmosphere, great food, excellent service
Food, Ambience, Staff good!
Only cons.. you have to wait 20-30 min even if you made a reservation
Our server Jose and all the crew made my friend’s bday dinner a great experience! Very friendly, accommodating and never let us sit there without having the best of service. The food was A-mazing. Everyone’s dish was flavorful and the plating was beautiful.
Awesome place awesome food stick with the seafood
Busy and friendly - loose-ish Covid protocols.
Great service and food!
Scallops, as well as Chef's choice grilled seafood were really tasty.
The service was very attentive. We liked this place and wood recommend it to everybody.
Love their food!
Food and service was great.
Very fresh seafood selection entrees, good service, outdoor seatings with heaters in both alley and on side walk on Green Street. Very busy, energetic environment which it is hard to believe are still in Covid-19 pandemic. Parking lot across street is $30 per car until 9:30pm. Will go back again.
Because of Covid, we had to sit outside, but the tables were set up in the alley, which had a cool feel; however, it was about 50 degrees outside and the alley funnels wind, so even though there were heat lamps, the wind blew it away from the table. Lesson learned: dress for cold weather and you will your experience will be much more comfortable.
Sidewalk dining is always tough but they’re doing Avery good job... well heated but a bit loud and lots of people walking on the sidewalk ... nothing the restaurant can do about that .. food was very good also service was very good overall a great experience.
Great place with a patio outside. Oysters were perfect, especially Canadian ones. The server suggested great Prosecco to pair with oysters. Recommend for a casual date night!
Love this place. A new favorite for weekend lunch.
We had a lovely dinner. The family pasta , the Barzino fish, and the combo crudo! All very delicious and fresh!
Wonderful food and amazing staff!
Everything we ordered was delicious. The mixed grill seafood was abundant with lots of variety. The pastas are all excellent. Service is great.
Feels like a Hollywood, California restaurant
Great food! Everyone loved what they got plus they were extremely accommodating for my group! Quick service and amazing atmosphere! Food was also delicious!
Delicious scallops, friendly staff combined with a beautiful day in San Francisco made for a perfect time. Panna cotta was a great finish to our lunch. Love being able to dine out again.
This was just what we needed after months of not going out! Such a cute vibe in the little alley, food was amazing, service was great - LOVE LOVE LOVE
