The service, staff and quality of the food was great! We will definitely be back!
Place seemed dirty and unorganized.
Food was not bad but not good either...it was also overpriced.
Could not even make a Tito’s and soda which was sent back once and my husband never even drank it.
We wanted to try something new but we left regretting it.
Very nice atmosphere and service was excellent. Food was very good, though a little pricey.
Great location. Fun host. Forgetful but sweet server. Friendly staff. Great chef. Great food... ahi, stuffed mushrooms, sea bass, cod, haddock, mashed potatoes, rice, dinner roles and last but certainly not least.. the chocolate cake. Yum to all of it 😋.
Odd rug placement in the women’s bathroom stall, though. We’re still shaking our heads about that one. 🚽 🤔
Other than that, we’re fans. 👍🏻🤩🤩🤩🤩
Excellent upscale food, drinks, and great service.
The food was amazing! Their direct purchase of the seafood definitely pays off. It was so fresh and delicious. Never had such fresh seafood in the midwest.
Awesome! Love Josh and Ethan, service was great and food FANTASTIC!
First time that we have been to Capital House; we would definitely go back! It was delightful!
Very inefficient service, very slow, but food was good once we received what we ordered
Capital House is always a fantastic experience. The ambiance is excellent as is the food.
Excellent food! The sauces are all perfect! Our waiter was phenomenal and the drink choices were abundant! It’s a go to spot now!
We started off w/ a Martini and Bloody Mary. Both were delicious. Our waiter (Josh) knew the menu well and told us what his favorite items were. We ordered shrimp cocktail for appetizer (they are huge). Dinner- pork chops and scallops. The scallops were cooked perfect, the pork chop was full of fat and not worth the price. Ordered a Margarita and less than stellar and small for the $9 price. Dessert- only option we were given was cheesecake and Josh told us not worth the $7. We would try again and stick to the seafood only options instead of the pork chops.
The seafood was excellent. The service was very prompt, Nick did a great job. Enjoy the atmosphere and the music.
EXCELLENT SERVICE AND FOOD. EVERYTHING WAS FRESH AND COOKED PERFECTLY. Josh our waiter made it a great experience, very knowledgeable of the offerings, definitely will return.
We were promptly greeted with a smile and we’re able to move our table to the upper level. Service was great. We’d definitely eat here again.
The drinks were great and the food was amazing. Would highly recommend.
Definitely the best seafood I've had in Rockford!
First time we went was awful but they had just opened. So we gave it another try and it was even worse. The fish was NOT FRESH and smelled of ammonia and was mushy! I made my partner stop trying to eat it after I spit it out. The salad was even poor, wilted lettuce and too much junk iceberg lettuce. Over priced, crappy seating upstairs, unfinished renovation clearly. And worst of all they advertise fresh seafood. We went on two different Saturday nights and that was not the case! At least we left only paying for our drink and one appetizer. Went home hungry.
What we thought was going to be a night of fine dinning, turned out to be a BIG disappointment. Service VERY, VERY VERY slow, main course good, sides cold. Our waiter was incompentent in so many ways. He couldn't answer our questions regarding house wine, didn't know price of house wine, and when he finally brought our drinks, the person who ordered a beer didn't get a glass. Asking for a glass for the drink, didn't come within 15 minutes, so the beer drinker started drinking from the bottle (not happy about that). When he finally came to take our order, I had to ask if there were any specials. Two of us order Flounder, the other two Seabass. All agreed the fish was good, but the sides (asparagus was cold and the linguine was bland. Our dinner rolls came just about the time one would order dessert. We were seated upstair and because of the high ceiling it was very noisy. We are people who always tip 20%, but not that night. It was not a good night.
Our dining experience was Superb!
We enjoyed everything!
My Boston cod was very good but my dates scallops were over cooked and tough to cut. Waiter was totally lost if you asked a question about the menu.
Classy restaurant but some obnoxious non-classy, noisy obnoxious gals at the bar. Need to have a dress code and get rid of the backward ball cap guys and their trashy dates in a really nice restaurant
The restaurant has 2 floors. The downstairs area is very nice. We were seated upstairs where the bar is located. Wasn’t impressed. The space is cramped and loud. The seafood was good. The ahi tuna was exceptional! The sides were underwhelming, very bland and unseasoned. The drink service was very slow. We received our appetizer before our drinks. We will give it another try if we can sit downstairs.
Our waiter was new, and missed a few things. But the chef owners behind the oyster bar in the office pen kitchen were great and kept the pace going. We will go back, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was fantastic. I had the cowboy ribeye special and i was one of the best steaks I have had in Rockford.
What a cool place! The staff is super friendly. We all had different seafood entrees and it was so delicious! We'll definitely be back.
Dinner was absolutely delicious!! We had a wonderful waiter, Nick, who was a delight and very attentive. My only hmmmmmmm moment was that for $25 I expected more than three scallops -- would have been content with four, however, that being said, they were amazing scallops, very fresh, never frozen! Also had THE BEST Wisconsin Old Fashion ever!!! This will definitely be our special occasion celebration restaurant.
I had the Chilean Seabass and it was cooked to perfection. It was absolutely perfect on the inside and had a nice crust. Would absolutely recommend dinning there.
Waiter was excellent! Steak ordered medium rare came well done and for some reason they offer to Oscar Style anything for $8, but can’t do it on the filet. That makes no sense. Fiancé ordered the sea bass with herb pesto, it came with mango salsa. Wasn’t offered any fix for any of the errors, but even if we were, we did not have the time to wait because we had a show to make.
They are attempting to be an upscale restaurant and the just aren’t. Raw bar was great but the dinners were fair at best. Our table had a napkin under the table leg to keep it from wobbling. The gave us hard butter in foil that we had to unwrap. My dinner was $37.00 which I don’t mind if it is good. Over all a poor experience. We will not return.
2nd time we've been there and had something different both times ....both times food was awesome
Josh is the bomb and were lucky to have him both times.
Jonie and Jim
We had a wonderful time for our girls night out. Our waiter and bartender made the experience so enjoyable. They made us feel like family as soon as we walked in. The food and drinks were fabulous! We can't wait to go back!
Service was good. Ambience was good. Crab cakes were different but very good. Salad wedge was good. Bread was very average. The reason we went was for the fish. My wife ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. It was somewhat overcooked and therefore rubbery. My grouper was the same. Portions were generous but unfortunately did not impress with flavor or texture. We may give them another try but for the price, not sure it will be worth the risk.
Service was great, highly recommend the brussel sprouts appetizer, it was amazing.
Everything was awesome except the dessert. Store bought cake uggh. When you serve great seafood the dessert choice should be equal.
Excellent food and service . Our waiter Josh was the best and we were seated by the windows and could talk to the chefs—wonderful time
This is a awesome restaurant with an unquie decor.
The food was excellent but the service brought down my overall rating. Everything took to long. Too long for drinks, appetizers orders, dinner orders etc. The server was nice enough just not attentive
Great downtown neighborhood gem!
Out of hundreds of restaurants I've visited throughout the Midwest, this is only my 2nd review, and my first negative one. My wife and I were attending a comedy show a few blocks away on Saturday evening. Perhaps it was the influx of extra diners, or the snowy evening (i.e. some staff could not make it) that contributed to the problems, but my sense was that neither of those factors changed things much. We sat down at 6:15. Our first round of drinks arrived at 6:50. But that was 10 minutes after our shrimp cocktail and bread came. We ordered the drinks from the server, but he was totally in the weeds, so the manager/hostess/owner came by after about 15 minutes, and said she would expedite the drinks right away. She proceeded to visit 4 more tables, and after several minutes of talking with each table, she seemed to remember our drinks. We had specifically asked for straight vodka martinis without vermouth or 'dirty.' When she finally arrived after 'expediting' our drinks (still the first round), she brought only one drink and it was of course 'dirty' So I had to follow her back to the bar, and re-order. When she returned again, she managed to bring 2 drinks, but both had vermouth. Out of frustration, and since our entrees had since been delivered, we kept one, and got the other replaced. If you have lots of time and lots of patience, the ambience is interesting. It's a 2-story affair, but it appears all the food has to be delivered from the first, up to the 2nd floor, and the drinks, vice versa, since the only bar is upstairs. Tough on the servers to be sure. The one commodity in great supply was the 'apologies', which started when we sat down (about the heat), and continued throughout the less-than-favorable experience. An offer to at least comp the drinks, would have gone a long way.
This was a very good restaurant and has a nice ambiance. It was very cozy and our service was good.
The chilean sea bass with mango salsa was delicious. Appetizers were also very well prepared. Definitely a place to return too.
