Very standard Italian steakhouse. Not bad, but not necessarily worth the $100 per person price tag that came along with it. I would definitely recommend the grilled calamari appetizer and the lobster ravioli but again, it's relatively standard fare for an Italian restaurant.
Food great as always. Waiter (Jay) was fantastic. Wife and daughter ordered specials without asking price and I was surprised at cost, (pretty high) but hey were pleased with quality and portions were the usual huge Carmine level. I asked for a combination not listed on menu to which they put together. It was great.
The service was outstanding! We loved the recommendations and everyone enjoyed their food!
I have been to Carmine's a number of times. Honestly, we've gone because it's close to where we live. Saturday night I ordered the chicken parm. It was OK. For the price point, it was disappointing. Same goes for their pastas There are so many better Italian restaurants in the city that charge less and the quality is more. And for those who charge more, the food is worth it. I think Carmine's charges what they do because they can given having a location in the Gold Coast. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you need your food to come out fast (similar to Mexican restaurants) and live nearby.
Celebrating a friend and his family moving to Chicago. The restaurant has an upscale vibe.... including the purple Ferrari parked our front) but also casual enough for jeans. Table was ready when we arrived.
Food: grilled calamari w/ balsamic as an appetizer was good but had some overly large and very chewy pieces. Good not Great
Lasagna was very good and a portion large enough for two IMO. Whitefish was very good... well cooked and great flavor
Shrimp risotto was very good and also a large portion. I like my risotto on the edge of too salty and this was right on. Maybe too salty for some. Very good shrimp and well cooked.
Meatballs ( as side item ) were enormous and came in a nearly perfect marinara sauce. The meatballs were really dense though- like the meat was ground too much. Kind of a bummer cuz I LOVE A great meatball and this would have been exactly that if not for that.
I didn’t get the check ( lucky me! ) so I can’t comment on too much on pricing.
Overall it was very good with a couple of flaws but delivered on the promise of a high end classic Italian meal in a fun, hip environment.
The food was excellent as usual at Carmine’s! We split the lobster ravioli and chicken parmigiana dishes. The dishes were fresh and served at the right time. We started out with mama’s meatballs salad and stuffed mushrooms. Loved both! You receive more than one can eat so be ready to leave with a to go box.
Besides host being over the top because the restaurant happens to be in Rush, the food was good, waitress was great! I kept hearing her coach the others. Good all in all, but let’s get over it, it’s iust rosebud with a slightly better address.
Patio is outstanding
Everything great and no one hurries you out. Great place !!!
Service was fantastic and great environment (we sat outside)
I loved this place, it’s a must try! The food was really good. I ordered an Alfredo fettuccine with shrimp, AMAZING! Our waitress was so nice! I had reservations and literally got seated right away. The food and the vibe of this place are on point!
Risotto was crunchy, scallops were salty, so disappointing.
Carmine's is a terrific spot. The food is great and the service even better. You can't get a bad meal there. The ambiance is upscale without being pretentious. The management cares about the customers and it shows from the quality of the food, the friendliness and courtesy of the waitstaff to the efficiency of the food runners and busboys. You cannot beat Carmine's on Rush Street for a social or business dinner.
Outstanding service and food!
Our food, servers and location combined for a wonderful evening!
Abraham is an excellent waiter. Very knowledgeable
Excellent dinner. Also ate at one of the other Rosebud restaurants that was great as well. Enough food at both places to feed us for two meals! Staff was friendly & efficient. Desserts were fabulous. Fun dinner.
Only complaint is your coffee is very ho hum; it’s very weak & tasteless & we love good bold coffee.
Great food and fantastic service. Highly recommend.
I was honestly very disappointed with my experience at Carmine’s. I was expecting way more from this restaurant. The food was great but the service was terrible. We had multiple waiters and had no idea who to actually ask for things. We could only split the check 3 ways, and we were a group of 6. I also indicated in the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and no one was aware or acknowledged it. Truly disappointed.
Staff is amazing. Very professional
Food quality is very good.
Ate outside at luchtime peoplewatching. Food and drinks were great. Kitchen accommodated changes (like mussels for clams) on an order.
Delicious food and drinks! We had a wonderful time
With all the new “hot spots” to eat around the city, we still think Carmine’s is one of the best. Amazing food, wonderful service and atmosphere.
It was just ok at best. Would not recommend going back for the price
Great food, Great manager, great waiter with great menu knowledge and recommendations.
We had family in from Buffalo and they loved it. Thanks Alex Nick C
My party of eight went to celebrate my daughters college graduation, all i can say is... Amazing food. Amazing Service. Amazing time!! When in town we will definitely stop in for a meal.
I look forward to my visit to Carmine’s every year (ASCO) and always make reservations ahead of time. This year it was a disappointment. We arrived at the restaurant and was directed inside to the hostess. She took us to THE worst (and tiniest) table EVER. it was positioned next to the kitchen entrance and in the bar area. It wasn’t even big enough for our bread and salad course .. I had to perch the parm cheese o. The ledge; just to make room. The table was so close to the kitchen entrance, it was like a highway of constant people (servers, runners, etc.) not to mention that they seemed to congregate by the entrance door and bar area. Just not the best experience.
I didn’t ask to be seated outside; but one would think, making s reservation ahead of time, would have given me a better option. Seemed others felt the same way; as people were Seated bear me .. they often asked to be moved.
Food was good; and plenty of it ... just not sure I would come back; based on this recent experience and ambience. Disappointed.
Outstanding food, service and ambiance.
Absolutely love Carmine’s. We have been several times and are always blown away by the food!
Enjoyed our dinner. appreciated being able to make a late reservation on a Saturday night
Visited Chicago for weekend and had reservations. Service was very slow. Our waiter was pleasant. Food was subpar. My daughter ordered entree without cheese and it had Parmesan on top. It was returned to kitchen and came back with cheese still mixed in. They comped the entree but she wasn’t able to eat with us. Dinner was expensive and not enjoyable. Will not be returning.
Food was excellent. The bolognese sauce was fantastic. Service was awesome. Nice piano music. Perfect!
My first visit to Carmines on Rush was over twenty years ago and I have easily eaten there over 100 times
I love everything about the restaurant.....the food is spectacular, the service is always friendly and knowledgeable and the wine list is a perfect match for the food
I strongly recommend Carmines and again, I have had many meals there and have brought hundreds of friends and business associates there
Carmine’s is always our “go to” place for fine Italian. Excellent classic, comfortable atmosphere on both levels and particularly outstanding patio and garden room dining where you can enjoy observing the activity on busy and beautiful Rush Street. They offer a wide range of menu items—with options suiting nearly everybody’s taste. Their food never disappoints!
Service is consistently excellent although we always hope that Danny will be available as our server. He’s a consummate professional who works hard to make sure every visit is a true dining experience.
Carmine’s is definitely one of our favorites. I highly recommend it!
The food was delicious but when we got to the restaurant I had asked the host if we sat on the patio would we get wet, he responded with no. Half way through our meal it started to rain and sure enough we got wet, our server saw us continue to wipe the rain off of our faces and didn’t say anything.
Then as we were waiting for our valet we overheard our server talk about us.
The food was delicious and very large portions. Even the desserts were huge.
Great location with outdoor dining, unfortunately is the food in our opinion terrible (a suggested would be to reduce the portions sizes as the are way way to big, and focus on making super tasteful food instead) the service however was great (really great)...
Carmine’s once again hit a grand slam for our extended family dinner. Even though it was the first clear 80 degree Saturday evening of the summer and every restaurant was jam-packed, they accommodated our group of 6 with a beautiful table outside. The service was impeccable, the food was right on, and although we would’ve understood if they would have rushed us a bit, they didn’t. It was a smooth, perfect evening to enjoy our family over a great dinner. Thanks, Izella, and thanks to Carmine’s.
I spent approximately 2 hours typing my review, editing extensively because so much was disappointing about our experience that i couldnt fit it all in. Then, just as i completed it and was finally was ready to click on Next, my battery died. By the time it recharged everything had disappeared along with my entire description of the fiasco. It would be too frustrating, and not worth my time or effort, to attempt a re-do. All I will say at this point is- we have dined at Carmines many times over the years so this was not our first visit but it will certainly be our last.
Carmine’s has always been one of our favorite places to go when we visit Chicago. The food is outstanding and the service this time was particularly outstanding. Our server (I didn’t catch his name) was attentive and understood our needs. The only complaint we have is that the portion sizes are too, too large and it’s not convenient for a visitor to take home a doggie bag. But we definitely will keep coming!
