Our party of 4 was disappointed by the service we received. We were welcomed at arrival by the host but our waiter for the evening was borderline indifferent. Our service could be described as brusque. It's unfortunate because the food was very good.
A great place for an intimate or business lunch, great service and outstanding cuisine.
A fine place for dinner. Nice drinks. Good selection. Okay sized portions.
The servers seem like it’s a bother to wait on you. My mom ordered a burger medium rare and it was super well done. When we asked for cheese for our pasta our waiter acted like we were just a bother. When we let the bus boy know about the overcooked burger our server never came back. He let the bus boy bring our check. We won’t be back anytime soon
It's a nice place, a comfortable and friendly unpretentious atmosphere. We like to dine there for special occasions, when friends or family are in town. The meals have always been well prepared and nicely presented. Looking forward to next time.
No water glasses refilled. No bread despite bread and butter plates.
Excellent food, excellent service and wonderful atmosphere!
I've always enjoyed meals here. They treat everyone very professionally and the food is outstanding.
We went for a Valentine’s Day dinner. They had a limited menu for the evening, but unfortunately they were out of several dishes that we ordered. While the wait staff was very pleasant, service was slow and the food was mediocre at best. You could tell it was not made fresh to order in anticipation of the busy holiday. Overall pretty disappointing in comparison to the stellar reviews we saw prior to trying this restaurant.
okay so when i reserves the reservation i had looked at the menu beforehand to see how the prices were and it was in my range. But when we entered the restaurant they hit us with a surprise menu that wasn’t listed on their tab and they never specified that they will have a special valentine’s menus and that made me pay 160 even though i was expecting less since i was expecting the other menu on their website and not their surprise menu
Best Valentines Day Dinner❤️
Went here with my husband on Valentine's Day and we both thought this was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Our compliments to the chef! It was a prixe fixe menu with your choice of one starter, one entrée and one dessert. We both had a lump crab meat and shrimp tower over mango and avocado salsa to start. The bright citrusy flavors were amazing. For the entrée, my husband chose the lamb and I had the scallops. Both dishes were perfectly cooked with equally delicious sides to go with them. The bread pudding and gelato for dessert were the end of a perfect meal. We'll definitely be dining here again. The couple at the next table also suggested their Park and Howard restaurant in Burlingame.
Had a great girls night out!! We had a nice round table towards the back and we enjoyed a leisurely dinner for 3 hours.
I highly recommend, the food is excellent and so is the service. I've been there several times and have always gotten a great meal.
I scheduled a client dinner because of the great reviews I heard. While we were warmly welcomed and shown to a nice table for our group, the overall impression of the restaurant was disappointing. The service was terse. While I will concede that we were slow to make decisions and were talking about the day of meetings, I didn't expect the waiter to curse us (not so) under his breath when we weren't ready to place entree orders. Not only did I hear it but so did my client. Once we did place the orders, It was hard to get his attention again for drink refills. And then at the end of the evening, even though we and two other tables were in the restaurant and it was well before 9pm, the staff started turning off the lights. Not anxious to return.
Delicious dinner & great service
Service was confused and uncoordinated and it wasn't even a busy night. Food was good, but they put us at a table by the kitchen.
Server was decidedly below average. Nice enough but didn’t know the menu and was awkward in service. Maybe it was inexperience. When asked about a certain dish he said “they are all good, depends on what you like”.
The octopus was bland and tasteless. Scallops were average at best. Lamb chops were outstanding and the double cut pork chop needed a bit more salt but was cooked perfectly.
Had an amazing lunch here. I would highly recommend the grilled octopus and lobster salad. Service was excellent as well.
The service was very rushed and to top it off there was a hole in the ceiling that was leaking water onto our bags/purses on the floor. When pointed the waiter shrugged and said it was going to be repaired tomorrow. Hadn’t been to Central Park Bistro in a long time. Won’t be rushing back.
My family and I love it here- they are very friendly and accommodating and the food is always really good. I like that they have some outdoor tables, too. I highly recommend CPB!
Great food and even better staff!!!
The whole experience was lovely. Got there early, so it was quiet but was quite lively by the time we left. The food was delicious and the wine list was extensive and varied. Truly enjoyable.
I appreciate that this restaurant takes food allergies seriously. So many GF options to choose from and I did not get sick.
Server knew what Celiac is and said the kitchen knows how to prevent CC with separate prep area. Had the sea bass and it was delicious. Husband ordered Brussels sprouts as a side and server told me that is not safe for me. So we got a different side.
They don’t have a separate frier sadly.
I’m dairy free as well and they had sorbet as dessert option. There was a creme brûlée as well that was GF.
Husband’s food was amazing too.
I do wish places would have more than sorbet for GF deserts.
Will go back!
The ambiance was fantastic upon walking into the restaurant. Our server, was very quiet and didn't really talk much. He disappeared for about 15 minutes and was no where to be found ! I ordered the filet mignon, and it was not tender and so chewy! I mean, for $36, I would have imagined that it would almost melt in my mouth! My boyfriend ordered scallops and they tasted like they weren't cooked through. The risotto was so salty and chewy ! I am quite disappointed, as I have heard very good things about this restaurant!!! :(
The food is always delicious. They handle Vegan orders quite nicely.
A special menu for New Year's Eve that was outstanding! For a busy holiday evening, the service and food were all on point. What a great dinner!
Family dinner on Christmas Eve. Food and experience was excellent. Service was attentive and professional. Our dinner choices were a cross section from the menu - filet mignon, sesame crusted ahi, cioppino and Caesar salad with prawns. Outstanding!
Our family enjoyed a festive Christmas Eve in the Wine Room. Great ambiance, a wonderful holiday menu, appetizers, cocktails and desserts and service was perfection. Thanks to Georgio, the chef and all their team, including Robert, the helpful events manager. Highly recommend Central Park Bistro for small dinner parties and privacy, the Wine Room holds up to 9 people.
The chef at this restaurant is outstanding and it is a good value.
The only downside is that the manager hovers over each table and rushes in to clear it the
minute the clients leave. He also seems to have no wish to interact with the clients.
We were thankful to find a nice restaurant open on Christmas Eve. We managed to get a table for 4 at 5:30 pm. Everything was excellent! Food, wine, and seating area and noise level. We just recently re-discovered this restaurant and will likely come back more often.
The only thing that was a bummer was that we felt a little rushed. Maybe it was because it was a holiday evening but there was a table for 4 next to us that was available the entire 75 minutes we were there. We ordered an appetizer, salads and entrees and cocktails and wine and tipped well. However the rushed part was a little bit of a bummer.
Way over priced for the quality of food which was "fair" and the service which was fair given the prices. Would not return.
Really great service
Food was fabulous
My business lunch was successful
Another wonderful meal at a neighborhood favorite, Central Park Bistro! The lamb chops were fantastic, the burrata salad lovely and the peppercorn steak delicious! I love the vibe of the place, the friendly staff and consistency of ordering favorite dishes. The only issue ever is the parking can be tough to find close by but welcome to downtown San Mateo.... worth the cruise around the block and by the parking garages.
The ambience: Don't go there with a friend or date and hope you can maintain a conversation without screaming at each other. I measured the median noise level towards 90dB
The waiter: the waiter did not understand mainstream basic American speak and/or beverages for example: "what is your well vodka"? "I'd like to have a Gibson Martini" I had to explain everything. Okay, granted he can learn it if he wants to.
The food: While an okay menu offering it is unlike some web resources publish not in the $$ range but more in the $$$ range. The presentation is nice the portions on the smaller side. I had the Sesame pan-seared salmon with a variety of pieces of vegetables and my friend had the lobster salad (must've been a tiny baby lobster...) neither dishes had any taste of any kind. They were simply bland, vague and uninspiring for the taste buds.
Place was ordinary. Server was abrupt and not friendly. Had a Caesar salad and it was good but not Excellent. Many choices San Mateo choose another . Restaurant
I love this place but my last experience was with a waiter who never came back. I got the salt and pepper from the bar. He never brought the bread. I didn’t want a salad and couldn’t find him to tell him so got charged fir something I didn’t want. Usually this restaurant is perfect. This was far from it. Karen
The food was OK, nothing super good. Menu selections for lunch was alright.
Probably the best restaurant in San Mateo. I’ve had most of the entrees - there isn’t a bad choice among the bunch. Very friendly service. It is a hidden gem!
Very nice - we all had some type of seafood. Service was very nice and not intrusive. We had a great time.
