Chevys Fresh Mex - Emeryville
Staff kept unapologetically excusing their lack of service to us due to staffing problems that weren’t their fault. Made reservation, not respected waited 45 minutes to be seated. 30 minutes to be asked for drinks. 20 minutes to receive drinks. Half the dinner orders came out while half the family sat without food. Including the birthday boy.
It was just super busy with slow service. I felt bad for our waiter he was so busy. But no one asked us what type of beans we wanted or how we wanted out meat. It just came out with items we didn’t actually ask for.
Consistently excellent food and great service. Loved the fajitas with fresh tortillas!
It was unclear that this restaurant understood how to use Open Table. The food is what I remember from other Chevys. Service was fine. Nice view.
I made a reservation and went to the restaurant. They never had my name on the list and had to wait for 20 minutes. Not acceptable! What’s the point of doing reservation if you still had to wait. Read all the reviews and apparently they NEVER record any reservation details.
When we arrived at 5:10 we were told they didn’t have our reservations, second time this has happened .
After waiting 30 minutes we asked again about being seated. We were told they were waiting for tables to be cleared, there was no bus boys right now.
There was a lot of chaos in the restaurant.

Chevys Fresh Mex is an old friend and we enjoyed our dinner except for the noise.
We had a large party ranging from ages 2 to 83. Our waitress was kind, efficient and understanding. The food was very good too!! I
We Made a reservation and got there and the manager told me it didn’t matter and we still had to wait like everyone else. And the line was ridiculously long! We ended up walking out!
our server was outstanding! food was very good. However there was an incident that the Berkeley Police were summoned, with the individual yelling, screaming at the waiter using foul language. Didn't feel safe or comfortable. People around us felt the same way as their were children there as well. I felt the situation could have been handled better by all involved
We didn’t get our reservation. They did not have record of it at the front counter so they told us we would need to wait 30 minutes. We left.
Terrible food. Really gone downhill since our last visit several years ago. We are not finicky but everything was way to salty/inedible, including even the beans and the rice, unlike prior visits over many years to this and other Chevy's locations. At least the chips and salsa are still okay. No wonder the Hilltop location shut down.
I want to first focus on the food. The food is awesome. The cocktails are great!
I made reservations for 6 people at 6:00pm. We were finally seated at 6:45pm.
After 18 minutes our waitress took our drink and appetizer orders. The food is the only reason we come here. It’s consistently great! Drinks came out then appetizer...then meals.....one at a time. My son got his first.....then about every ten minutes another, then another, then another. Really?
The meal was supposed to be at 6:00pm.....we ended our visit around 9:30pm.
Maybe we will order to-go next time.
We had to wait over an hour just to receieve our drinks... then waited another hour for our food to come out. We didn't get checked on for thirty minutes while we were waiting for our check, AND my last margarita had zero tequila.... sooo it could've gone better.
Although I made a reservation had to wait a while to get seated, they were pretty busy and looked like lacked the staff. But then whoever served tried their best to serve satisfactorily.
The restaurant seemed understaffed, so there were delays
Horrible service waited 15 mins to get silverware , since we didn't get it from the time we sat down, than we had to wait another 15 mins to get tortillas to eat with our semi cold fajitas. Upsetting, we kept asking for help but they will turn around and do something else and by the time we asked a second time they got it. Food was cold, bad service, slow service.
We still waited 40 mins for a table even with a reservation.
Some of the worst service we have ever experienced, but it was not our server's fault. It was Father's Day, and they were terribly understaffed, while the restaurant was probably busier than usual. Everything took forever to arrive (when remembered), and our 7 entrees literally arrived one at a time over the course of about 15+ minutes.

Only 2 servers working the entire restaurant.. incompetent manager and subpar food. Took almost an hour to be seated and then another hour and a half to be served our meal.
For a chain restaurant they great. They were able to accommodate a graduation party of 16 an hour before closing. We were able to have a good meal and drinks without being rush, thank you Chevy Emeryville, CA
Host staff was barely aware that they used OpenTable, and had real trouble getting customers to their table. Very disorganized.
I was given the wrong order and my friend who ordered the same thing never received his order at all. Finally, after everyone was done eating we received our food in a to go box. However, it was not our order. We ordered Shrimp fajitas and only received cold shrimp on top of vegetables. We were not even provided with tortillas. The meals were comped but we still should have been provided with our original order.
The food was great! Had a reservation but wasn't seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. Service could have been a bit better. Had a party of ten and two of our guests weren't served until the rest of us were almost done eating. The server overcharged a credit card, and didn't alert the member of our party of the mistake. A bank alert is what brought it to our attention. The server did apologize after we inquired about it, but I'm concerned that it's not a matter of policy that a customer be informed when a mistake is made with a credit card.
There was no parking anywhere whatsoever !! We didn’t even get to make it inside to our reservation. We went around for 20 mins!
Place was dirty. The tables sticky dirty and floor was not swept. The food was like eating a TV dinner on a plate. The margaritas had no tequila in them. Worst Mexican food I have had in 15 years. Only saving point is a nice view of the bay.
Very happy with everything. We are in San Rafael and just found out about your location, which is great!!
Not having a Chevys in Marin is sad, but will make a point to visit this Emeryville location a lot in the future.
Waitress went on 15 minute break and no one filled in for us. Later I had to go find a manager to find our waitress who was on the other side of the restaurant doing side work.
I live in Alameda and Chevys was always one of my favorites. The salsa \used to be great (spicy with a charred roasted flavor). At this restaurant, the salsa was really watery and I honestly don't think it was made fresh. It was very bland and tasted like it had been sitting around for a day or more. The fajitas were just so so. I will not return to this restaurant.
Service was very bad. It took probably 40 minutes for my margarita to come. I ended up ordering a second one when it finally came so I wouldn’t have to wait again.
This Chevy's location is always understaffed which causes things like the following:
-Getting your shrimp fajitas without tortillas. Then waiting 10 minutes for the server to make some.
-Everyone else at the table served except 1 person. The server asked, what did you order?
-Waiting 30 minutes for a drink from the bar. By the time it arrived, the meal was almost finished.
-Long waits for non alcoholic beverages, refills, and for the server to come by and check on us.
A good rule is to revisit a table, two minutes or two bites after the food is dropped off, to make sure they have everything they need.
Have enough staff working to make sure the customer has a good eating experience.
Whatever happened to the person who just makes the tortillas? Spreading it out as side work may save you money, but it doesn't create a good dining experience.
It was great, food was good, service was good and just the overall experience was good
Manager was truly helpful and went above and beyond to help me. Great server too. (I believe her name is Marina) she had to help us and serve other tables too.
It was very busy. There was not enough waitstaff to take care of all the customers. Our food took over an hour with our daughter’s arriving 15 more minutes later. It arrived cold and gelatinous- there was a lady next to us with her dog at the booth and she kept complaining. They messed up our entire order - we spend $80 and regretted going the entire night- waste of time and money
Great place for families, they actually seem to like children. Servers were very attentive to our group of 8 adults and 6 kids. Thank you!
Everything we ordered took forever to reach our table. Meals were completed by family members before the other meals were put on the table. It was SO loud. Will never return there.
Our server was very nice although got my order wrong. Which it happens not a big deal because I got my food not too long after. My friend and I ordered bottomless mimosas and received our 1st drink after our food which took 20-30 for each drink. I’m the type since I work in the industry not to complain. So I tried waiting patiently but couldn’t believe as I watched server over & over attemp to see if our drinks were ready at the service station but it was never up. I also saw the mimosas in the container on top of the service station siting there. You shouldn’t sell bottomless mimosas if you don’t plan on filling them. There should be a container filled on the table so the customer can at least refill it. There was also no busser to take our dirty plates. Host was fabulous & sat us quickly so 5 stars for her. Mostly disappointed in our slow service coming from the bar. We were late to our Warriors game.
I think our server need a little more training on cocktails and service. I order a Beefeater on ice she respone back “ what’s that “ so I told her . When she serve the soda yo my guess we have to ask for the straws . One of my guess did not get his entree until I ask for it 20 mins after I get my. She brought it out right away , which means the food was waiting at the window. It is not a pleasant experience.
