Got seated immediately with open table. Chicken fajitas were delicious with a peach margarita ! Excellent service!!!
My experience was horrible. Reservation was for 730 didnt get seated until after 8. 7 out of 25 people didnt ever recieve their meals and when they removed their items from the check they didnt remove their taxes. This is the worst experience i have ever had @ Chevys and unfortunately it was my daughters 21st birthday! Our waiter left without telling us, which unfortunately wasnt good for the next waiter who had no idea what was going on.
Im never going back again.

They were short staffed, didn't even have Coke or diet Coke. Our appetizer came out with the dinners. Our waitress was nice but she was clearly too stressed.
I had an 830 reservation and waited for over an hour to be seated. The food was disgusting. The drinks wasn’t even good. I don’t think I will be going back to Chevys.
We did a reservation and waited a very long long time, over an hour. I will not be going or recommending anyone. The manager said it didn't matter if we did a RSVP nor did he care. The food was awful. The rice had been in the heater and was very hard. The food was very bad.

I like the food. I just didn’t like making a reservation and still having to wait 20 minutes. We asked why there would be a wait and we were told “there are a lot of people with 7pm reservations” which is fine but if you can’t accommodate everyone with a reservation at the time of their reservation don’t make them as available.
This is based on the timely service. We had an OpenTable reservation for 4:30 It took 20 minutes to seat us and another 30 to get drinks from the bar. It was early in the day before dinner rush. I can't imagine what happened for the rest of the evening. The servers were very nice but the service time was absolutely beyond ridiculous!

They were not prepared for our reservation for 12 on a Saturday evening. Took 45 minutes to be seated and another 30 min for the waitress to come take drink orders. Overall the service was poor. The restaurant, especially by the bathrooms, was filthy. There was tons of toilet paper on the floor outside the restrooms, which was near the kitchen area for the staff, and no one bothered to clean it up.
Even if you have a reservation you have to wait to be seated. Slow service, not recommended for parties with kids
For this restaurant to not be full it takes a long time to be seated even with a reservation. The service was very slow and it took a long time for me to see the waiter to even ask for my check.
Good food and great service from our server but....
Don’t leave anything in your car! Our car was broken into an our laptop bags were taken. The police were there waiting for us when we came out after dinner. They said thieves target this area as it is so close to freeway and people are traveling through and leave bags in car. They did not take our luggage just computer bags. The parking lot is a bit dark but we were parked only 2nd space in. I believe the restaurant will need to have a full time security team to patrol.
Dinner was good. Service from the kitchen was a little odd twice getting food delivered that wasn’t ours but quickly moved to another table.
I was there Christmas evening and it is one of the most mediocre Mexican meals I have ever had. I went with low expectations. Expecting Chevy's to be very good Mexican food is like expecting an airline meal to be very good and I know better. To be fair, on a very busy night, we were seated prompty and the server was good, quick and efficient. The food was beyond mediocre. Flavorless, lukewarm and almost a parody of Mexican food. IF American Airlines served Mexican food, this is what it would taste like. Nothing was good. Oddly, even the chips and salsa were flavorless. I actually left thinking Taco Bell, which I hate would have been better, quicker and $40 cheaper.
Building was beautiful, a nice view of the sunset over the bay. Servers were friendly and helpful. Only thing lacking was good food. The fish tacos were a disappointment- we were told it was Tilapia, but in fact it was a tiny piece of frozen Salmon complete with skin. The black beans had no flavor added - just beans. The Tomato-Pepper garnish was fine. I’m sure the margaritas were great, but sadly we don’t drink.
This was honestly the worst experience. The service was beyond bad, the server forgot a couple of meals and drinks. The food that did come out was cold we ordered a salad they brought out a side salad when we let him know it was wrong he told us just take it is a salad. We ordered a drink Long island ice tea it was just ice and splash of maybe Pepsi, the drink tasted like rubbing alcohol. We ordered fajita meals and the server tried to charge us for tortilla that are part of the meal. I'll never frequent this location and definitely advise others not to as well.
Music was too loud. Our food came at least 30 minutes before our Margaritas. This meant we were eating chips and salsa without beverages. One person in our party of nine didn’t get his beer until we were leaving.
We had a company dinner for 20 people and the service was great are waiters where always asking if we need it anything and making sure we were ok . Are food and drinks where served right away to all of are group . We loved how we where not rushed out of there .
I think the place that evening was very understaffed. It took 30 minutes to order our food. Initial drinks took a while as well as getting refilled. The waiter was nice and courteous but I think the lack of attentiveness was that he had too many tables, and that is a management issue. The food came out hot as we had liked it, but the food itself is nothing to write home about. The food is more of Tex-Mex, and, if I did not have a big party that wanted a bigger restaurant feel for the atmosphere, I would have been just as happy going to Chipotle. Our guy was also bussing his own table, though he had help bringing out food.
My advice? Have the drink you get on your own by having a fountain or have a separate person run drinks and chips/salsa and bus tables or hire more waitstaff. If you have that separate person, have the waiter specialize in getting orders. Again, this is a management issue because the waiter was courteous.

This use to be my favorite restaurant. I’m not sure what happen but the food was horrible and made me sick to the stomach. Not sure if it was old or what but this was bad. I hope it gets better.
We decided to go to Chevys since last visit was 10yrs ago. We were disappointed at the quality of the food and service. For family of 4 we paid $105. Not worth it, kids hates the pizza. The over literally looks like it was just defrosted and was put in the microwave. The table smelled horrible like a wet/dirty rag was used to clean it. Our waitress was not attentive and was in a rush and complained that the kitchen was not in shape...they ran out of chips and salsa & literally every beer my husband tried to order was out of stock. Never going back.
But hey I book with open table and they sat us down quickly.
Staff kept unapologetically excusing their lack of service to us due to staffing problems that weren’t their fault. Made reservation, not respected waited 45 minutes to be seated. 30 minutes to be asked for drinks. 20 minutes to receive drinks. Half the dinner orders came out while half the family sat without food. Including the birthday boy.
It was just super busy with slow service. I felt bad for our waiter he was so busy. But no one asked us what type of beans we wanted or how we wanted out meat. It just came out with items we didn’t actually ask for.
Consistently excellent food and great service. Loved the fajitas with fresh tortillas!
It was unclear that this restaurant understood how to use Open Table. The food is what I remember from other Chevys. Service was fine. Nice view.
I made a reservation and went to the restaurant. They never had my name on the list and had to wait for 20 minutes. Not acceptable! What’s the point of doing reservation if you still had to wait. Read all the reviews and apparently they NEVER record any reservation details.
When we arrived at 5:10 we were told they didn’t have our reservations, second time this has happened .
After waiting 30 minutes we asked again about being seated. We were told they were waiting for tables to be cleared, there was no bus boys right now.
There was a lot of chaos in the restaurant.

Chevys Fresh Mex is an old friend and we enjoyed our dinner except for the noise.
We had a large party ranging from ages 2 to 83. Our waitress was kind, efficient and understanding. The food was very good too!! I
We Made a reservation and got there and the manager told me it didn’t matter and we still had to wait like everyone else. And the line was ridiculously long! We ended up walking out!
our server was outstanding! food was very good. However there was an incident that the Berkeley Police were summoned, with the individual yelling, screaming at the waiter using foul language. Didn't feel safe or comfortable. People around us felt the same way as their were children there as well. I felt the situation could have been handled better by all involved
We didn’t get our reservation. They did not have record of it at the front counter so they told us we would need to wait 30 minutes. We left.
Terrible food. Really gone downhill since our last visit several years ago. We are not finicky but everything was way to salty/inedible, including even the beans and the rice, unlike prior visits over many years to this and other Chevy's locations. At least the chips and salsa are still okay. No wonder the Hilltop location shut down.
I want to first focus on the food. The food is awesome. The cocktails are great!
I made reservations for 6 people at 6:00pm. We were finally seated at 6:45pm.
After 18 minutes our waitress took our drink and appetizer orders. The food is the only reason we come here. It’s consistently great! Drinks came out then appetizer...then meals.....one at a time. My son got his first.....then about every ten minutes another, then another, then another. Really?
The meal was supposed to be at 6:00pm.....we ended our visit around 9:30pm.
Maybe we will order to-go next time.
