Chevys Fresh Mex - South SF
May have been short-handed but a sweet server who wasn't always available. The food had to be sent back since it needed to be hotter...Plate next to me has cooked at the correct temp...
Although they were able to seat our large party quickly it took forever to actually get our food. The drinks were decent but our food was not up to the standard of what I’ve gotten at other Chevy’s restaurants. The best thing of the meal was the freshly made tortillas.
I was disappointed at how small the servings were. Our out of town guests, a couple , shared one combination dish because they thought it would be enough. I thought so too, what with the chips & tableside
guacamole . The rest of us ended up sharing our dish with them! My husband shared his quesadilla, my sister her enchilada & from me, chicken fajita from my $22 combination fajita. I don’t remember the servings this small or else I would have ordered more appetizers. We’re supposed to fill up on the rice & beans? We’re not coming back.
Party for 15-20 every year. Past 9 years Never fails dry chicken steak
Must go to Celia’s next . Just like the back patio
We enjoy coming to the restaurant. However, it was unclear if they checked if we had the reservation made. I was in the middle of saying I had the reservation from Open Table when they just took us to a table.
Very tasty and the service was great! We had a wonderful time.
Friendly. Not to busy on the restaurant side but busy at the bar due to happy hour. Food came out nice and hot. Hostess, Sandra, was attentive.
Food was alright, honestly I feel Taco Bell has better tasting food and for a lower cost. Service, waitress and host were excellent though.
We arrived about 20 mins earlier than our reservation but were promptly recognized by the hostess and seated right away since the Friday night rush had not yet begun. The highlight of the evening was our server, Catalina, who was the epitome of efficiency, friendliness and professionalism. As I was hesitant about how spicy one of the dishes was, she offered to bring a small taste of the meat al pastor to the table. Wow...how spontaneous was that! I did order the tacos al pastor with black beans and rice. It was delicious. Our friend ordered off the summer menu also and she also was pleased with her meal. I must say we came to Chevy's South San Francisco because we had a coupon and it was near to our home. While I would rate the food as ok, very good bar selection. Parking is horrible due to the Grocery Outlet, Jack in the Box, strip mall type small businesses. If it were not for our server, Catalina, and the coupon, I would not have come to Chevy's.
One entree arrived cold. Parts of others were not hot. Service...well, it was obvious that our server was new to Chevys and to serving. He had a good attitude but needed more experience before being thrown into a busy Saturday night shift. The manager was more interested in offering excuses than making us happy.
Will probably never go back. Floor was filthy felt like it hadn’t been cleaned in days although our waitress was very nice she was ridiculously slow. we asked for utensils it took 2 times asking and about 25 minutes later. we asked for water for a child that took 20 minutes. my husband had the bottomless bloody mary’s when it came time to get a 2nd one that literally took 28 minutes we timed it. also he said the first one was very good but the 2nd was like water , i guess so since it probably just sat at the bar all that time. bathroom was also filthy like it hadn’t been cleaned in days and we went for noon so no excuse they can give
Leo is awesome... very friendly and attentive! Thank you.
Neil, our server, is awesome! He's very attentive and always checked on us. Thank you ~ we enjoyed our lunch and plan to come back soon.
They didn’t have our open table reservation ! Luckily they were still able to accommodate us. Their chairs are filthy and sticky. Their bathrooms horrendous. I had to tell the front house to service them. I love their chips. Tortilla soup was TOO SALTY. margaritas were good. Great happy hour menu. Thanks.
we sat in the bar area and the bartender was great the food was great the drinks were great the only issue was my friend had the watermelon margarita she said it tasted like water my husband and other friend had cadillac margaritas they said were great and i had a bloody maria which was fantastic not everyone knows how to make one. would definetly go back
I am not sure what happened but this Chevys USE to be the best. Not any more, food sucked, drinks weak, server was great but I won;t be going there any more. Too bad as this was a regular go to spot.
Very friendly staff. Food is good for the value. Drinks are good.
Always know what I’m getting at Chevys. Good food, good service, and yummy chips. 😋
We went for my husband's birthday with a coupon. We did show up and requested for a booth in Open Table but the hostess did not even look at the notes. When she took brought us into the restaurant she had a table in the middle of the dining room. We said we would like a booth and both booths in the open area we're taken already. The rest of the restaurant was closed so she said she could not seat us there. We waiting almost an hour to be seated when the other guest left.
When we started the server did answer our questions and after thinking about what we wanted we finally decided. My husband ordered the Tostada Salad and i ordered the Chicken Tacos. Both meals we're good but we noticed that the menu is smaller than it use to be with less choices.
We always had to ask for more chips or water the server did not come up to us and ask us if we needed anything.
I remember going to Chevy's in the past and service was always at least average. My husband did not receive a sombero or even a birthday dessert. Not sure if i would go again if i had to pay full price.
The hostess was really dry and was surprised we put in a reservation. We got there ten minutes earlier than the reservation and were made to wait. The waitress was very friendly and attentive and smiled a lot which made a difference on our night out.
I love this place. The bar area is great and Robert the bartender, is terrific and very friendly. The drinks are kind of expensive ($11.00 for a glass of wine in a Tex mex restaurant) but I’d come anyway. The food choices are good and plentiful. Our server, Angelica, is an angel. We’re a large group of seniors and can be demanding. She was patient and helpful. We come once a month and it’s enjoyable every time.
This chevys is still open and doesn’t hold a candle close to the flavor of the food and service that we used to get in the San Ramon Chevys and they’ve closed ...it’s a pity !
Chilaquiles has too many greasy Chips , please add chicken
value for food real good
Restaurant was short staffed at time of visit. Once we were seated the food and service was good.
Server forgot about us at the end of dinner. Left us waiting for our bill for at least 20 minutes.
Thank you for having the open table reservation. I love Chevys and it’s a joy to go there. Great food, excellent service, and convenient parking.
Chevys seems like it’s getting very old and dirty inside the restaurant. It’s pricy,... considering you can get great fajitas at Chili’s for half the price. The service was not great, and it’s noisy. I like the chips and salsa, so I think that’s the only thing that will bring me back,... so probably just sit in the bar area, if at all.
Sat down about 30 minutes after reservation time. That was the only negative thing. Service was good... food was good. They might put msg on their refried beans b/c when I ate it, I had a horrible allergic reaction on my face.
Open Table reservations worked great for us inspite of the busy valentine's dinner evening crowd. We got seated in no time. Our server Sandra was great and the food was more than enough.
Chevy's margaritas are superb !
The food was really bad...
Slow service, and bad service.
We had a large party and the staff was very attentive. They sang for a member of our party who was celebrating a birthday and gave him a sombrero.
It did take over 20 minutes for us to get a check after we finished and this was when it was extremely quiet during a late lunch
They didn’t even have my reservation, I don’t think they use Open Table. I was bummed. Thank GOD they weren’t crowded & was able to accommodate for us.
Waited 45 minutes past our reservation time of 5:30 for a table. Took a long time after that to take our order which arrived wrong. Also noticed what appeared to be a manager in the hall to rest rooms “necking” intensely with I assume his girlfriend. Won’t be back for any reason.
Online reservations had not been reviewed on Saturday, so they did not have the reservation I made on Open Table on their books. Fortunately, they were able to seat my party of 6. I received an email today, 3 days later, stating that I have been seated. I recommend calling for a reservation.
They were out of avocado so no guacamole. Charged me $2.00 for sour cream. Food took forever to come out and when it did it was cold. Service was slow had to ask multiple times for items. I understand it was a busy night but no excuse for cold food
Chevys did not have my name booked in their schedule even I booked through open table and showed them email confirmation. They did sat us in after 15-20 min wait. Not sure what the point is in reserving if we had to wait.
It is always fun and laidback to eat here. Love the chips and salsa. Hot tortillas are the best. Service can sometimes be slow but I think that is more kitchen related. Lovethe ambiance and the affordability of this classic, fun restaurant.
Birthday dinner. Excellent service
