Chevys Fresh Mex - Vallejo
Food was okay. Came out hot and for the most part taste good. A gentleman who was making the tortillas was wearing gloves and scratching his nose and going to the restroom with gloves on and coming out with them on. Pretty gross.

We had to wait for a table even with a reservation. Once seated the hostess had to ask a bus boy to clean the table. We were never greeted by a waiter or waitress. We never received water. We never received complimentary chips and salsa. We never received service and ultimately ended up leaving.
The service was excellent. The server did his best even though staffing was a challenge on a Saturday night
Food was good, service was good. However the dining area was closed, so we had to sit in the cantina. We were there to have a relaxing dinner. The steel stools, and roaring laughter and screams put an end to that. There was one server for the whole cantina. But at least the food was good.
Hostess was awful. There were a lot of tables I had a reservation got there a little early. She said that we had to wait until our time I was OK with that until she seats the people who were walks ins and then waited 10 minutes before we were seated it’s like she did it on purpose. Our waiter he was very nice very energetic he was just very busy a lot of tables because it seem like if they were short staffed.
In times of Covid, outdoor seating is preferable. Chevy's was horribly understaffed so outside seating was not an option. There was one waitress for about seven tables where we were seated. Although she was very personable, kept apologizing and did the best that she could, service was very slow. Neither our waitress or the busboy (who also brought our chips and salsa to the table) wore masks. I will only pick-up food until things improve. Also sad that they have stopped curbside pick-up, forcing you to go inside to pick-up your food.
It was horrible I spoke with one of the mangers about me making reservations An how me an my family sat down an was told the area we was sit in was not happy hour I was confused an upset because that was the reason we made reservations to come for happy hour nothing on the reservation site states that u can not get happy hour when you make reservations an there is only one area u can book which is not happy hour then we was told by the waiter that the wait will be an hour for us to be able to see it on the bar side to get happy hour and so that’s when I spoke with one of the managers and like he didn’t really care about the whole situation yeah he said that oh I’ll get somebody to look at the site to see the change it in so it can say when you make reservations and you want happy hour you can’t get happy hour when you make reservations because reservations is only for the other side of Chevys

They seemed short staffed, everyone running around. That said, although seeing that, Alex helped us and was very welcoming, attentive, hard working, was always ensuring we were taken care of, even if he was serving multiple tables. He was amazing especially as we celebrated my dad’s birthday. He should get a raise.
The tacos and enchilada was delicious, as well as the prickly pear margarita. The meal was enjoyable and glad to see that the restaurant has not let the pandemic decrease the quality of the meal or service on any way. Kudos to our waitperson Gloria. She was awesome!
Terrible Service, It took us 45 minutes to receive our beverages after being seated. Out of my party of 6, 3 meals were served 1 hour & 30 minutes after being seated while the other 3 were not even out yet.
Service was very poor. They are clearly under-staffed. We had a 3pm reservation and we still were not seated for 25 minutes. We then had to wait another 20 minutes to be greeted by our server and get some water — and this was only after I spoke to the manager. Once we got our food (fajitas), everything was very tasty and fresh. Love the freshly made tortillas!

This Chevy's was always a value priced, casual dining restaurant for us. Not great but not bad. A notch above fast food. But with sit down, full service and a bar. :-)
But yesterday, they let us down. We'll chalk it up to the Covid effect and hope they get on top of things. They were severely understaffed and most of the staff that was there was not handling that well with the customers.
Our server was great. But, really stressed as she was the only one that showed up for work at lunch opening. Evidently they're having serious staffing issues.
Loud, driving music not pleasant while dining. Geez, if it was Mexican music, it might be O.K. But loud with hard surfaces?
Squeezed by labor and food costs, their prices have increased. Particularly at the bar. That seems to be the case everywhere these days. I sure hope servers will understand why a 20% tip will no longer be appropriate.
The coupe de grace was a $23.75 charge - after a $5 "courtesy credit" from the manager - for a black Russian.
Ordered a Black Russian. Had to tell server that was vodka and Kahlua because it wasn't in their computer. O.K. Asked for milk on side to make my own White Russian.
It was heavy on vodka but light on Kahlua as so often happens. So requested a bit of extra Kahlua which manager happily obliged. Not a great way to start but O.K.
But, when the bill came, it included 2 shots Kahlua for $20 and 1 shot vodka for $8.75! A $28.75 Black Russian? No way!
Discussed with server and manager and they kept saying they had to bill it like that because "Black Russian wasn't in the computer". A $10 credit was made. But sadly they just couldn't see the ridiculousness of this. We left feeling frustrated at the lack of common sense and inability to accommodate something "not in the computer".
I hope they get their act together. And, we'll probably return. But, I'll be sticking to beer in the future. Wouldn't want to confuse them with something not in the computer.

When it comes to the weekends I get that it'll be super busy & for that reason they should get more waiters than they had. Our waiter Athena was AMAZING! She had quite a few tables but she handled them very well. I would defiantly love to have her as my waiter when we return. The food wasn't warm when we got it but it was still good.
Very fast seating & service. Food was as expected and served hot. First time using Open Table, but will not be the last.

When I initially arrived to check in I was told there was at least a 20 min wait. I asked what is the point of making reservations. The host looked confused but said nothing to address my concern. The manager intervened to retrain the host that Open Table reservations jump to the head of the line.
Reservations didn’t specify that happy hour was not part of reservations. Apparently reservations do not qualify for happy hour. Also there was hair in one of our drinks. A clear visible hair, and we were comped anything. And our food came out before the drinks we ordered at the bar.
Although there was a bit of a wait, Service was outstanding!
Every experience I have with the waitress with the long hair and tattoos. I forget her name but she always makes it be about us! She’s such a sweetheart !
Arrived for my reservation with my family (including elderly mom and toddler children) only to be turned away once I checked in. No call before hand to cancel before arrival. Very unprofessional! The only option given was that they can take a to-go order which also requires wait times due to customers waiting. For me, that wasn’t an option as I already went out of my way to get my kids ready (anyone with babies/toddlers knows how difficult that can be. Especially more than 1), get my mother, commute to the restaurant, and go all the way inside only to find out we can’t eat. It was such an inconvenience! I would not recommend Chevys to anyone for any reason. This was unacceptable and unsettling.
I gave it a one star across the board because an hour before our reservation, I received a call from Chevy's canceling our reservation. Within that hour, they no longer had outside dining.
I was excited to enjoy happy hour at my local Chevys. I was very upset to find out you need to sit at a specific side of the restaurant for the happy hour prices AFTER my bill came. I was given no option on where to sit. The restaurant was very slow with only a few tables on what seemed to be the only side open. Our drinks came out after the food. The food was good and the server was sweet but the prices were not worth it. I usually really like to be sympathetic because I have worked at restaurants for over 5 years now but this was sadly dissatisfying.
The waiter was very nice. He went above and beyond.

i made a reservation 2 days ahead of time, so once i get there the hostess trys to seat me and my friend outside. i was told they overbooked so i couldn't sit inside. so i said i'll wait. 40 minutes go by and no text on phone, i go back in and explain that i made a reservation way ahead of time. this time the same hostess and the manager was standing there. i got seated right away, inside. handle your business right because some didn't even make reservations, they just walked in. the nice waitress was the best part, so i left her a good tip.
Horrible! With a reservation we waited a long time for our table. Hostess was not friendly or professional. Took forever to get drinks and chips. Took even longer to get our order taken. A very long time to receive our food and guacamole was forgotten. Food was terrible. Took a long time to get our bill. Place was dirty including the bathroom. We will never go there again.
This visit was during the COVID-19 pandemic. The restaurant does not follow the CDC, State and County safety guideline because two guests arrived before us, they did not wear the mask and the host did not request them to wear the mask as well and guided them walking to their table, throughout the restaurant.
The restaurant was busy. I ordered a Michelada but it took more than 15 minutes before getting the drink. We had steak quesadillas and fish tacos. The taco more like the pita bread, very dougy.
Sadly, the salsa is still the only best item of Chevy's.
Been a fan of the salsa for many years. This time it tasted different, only just ok!

We didn’t get a chance to really enjoy our food, we were under attack by flies and we were sitting inside! It was so bad we asked to go outside !
