A date between my wife and I before everything shuts down from a pandemic.
If that was the last supper, it was the best supper
Great restaurant. Love sitting at the bar watching the food preparation.
Each time we attend- I find myself more and more impressed.
Had a lovely visit to the restaurant this evening. The food was nicely prepared and the service was excellent. The people who work there go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I will be back.
Loved our meal, but the restaurant was understaffed. For example, three people would get served their appetizers and the fourth waited ten minutes until we finally flagged down the waiter. We didn't get the anchovies we ordered on the pizza. The server was unable to check in on us. Too bad. Hopefully this was a result of a last-minute staff no-show.
Brunch, lackluster egg dish and slow service
At the time of this review, I believe I overheard someone say, Creekwood has been open a little over a year. Fairly new in the life of restaurants. My opinion is that they did a wonderful job of designing the space. The wood really lends itself to creating a warm atmosphere. I appreciated that they paid attention to detail, e.g., the heat lamps on their patio are hung from above rather than the more common standing ones that take up room on the floor.
I gave it a 4-star rating for ambiance only due to location, but not the restaurant itself; it's located off a busy street with not a lot else going on in the vicinity.
The staff was very nice and came around regularly. The restaurant wasn't packed at the time of my visit, nonetheless, I felt their attentiveness was sincere. They allow dogs on the patio and offer a water bowl for them.
Food items were fairly priced - and appropriate for the menu. The coffee and food however were...good. I only had coffee and a very simple breakfast and felt the coffee was lackluster, there's an opportunity for something that stands apart a little. I didn't ask what grounds they brew, yet I have found that we have several if not many local roasters, e.g., Verve, Chromatic, etc. that have outstanding coffee. Likewise, there was nothing different, special, or memorable about the food. It's absolutely more than a "diner", still there's potential to bump it up.
Would I return or would I recommend a visit...absolutely! Mostly because of the service and knowing that there are items I can eat, they do offer vegetarian options and are able to make at least a couple items vegan. It's a great place to meet with friends and on a nice afternoon, a place to stay on their patio.
Thank you for the kind and thoughtful review. Sorry that our coffee wasn't enjoyable to you. We will evaluate our offering and see if we can elevate that a bit. Thanks!
Enjoyed Creekwood on two occasions. First was with friends and they were able to accommodate with pasta dish using kale instead of pasta. The calamari, paparadelli, meatballs, and ragu without the pasta were wonderful.
The second visit was with 6. The food again was consistently great with standouts to the fried gnudi, brussel sprouts, truffle pizza, meatballs, and pork ragu pasta. Tried the ribeye steak and it was good but not standout.
Service was welcoming and efficient.
Thanks for the nice review. Hope you will come back and try our ribeye again. We want that to be a great entree for you and our guests.
Very attentive and intimate yet friendly
This is a lovely vibrant restaurant. For my taste the pasta was underdone. My experience in Italy is that even if they cook pasta al dente in water, once they cook it in the sauce it is soft, with the flavor of the sauce absorbed into the pasta. I realize some people like the pure al dente but I would ask them to cook it a little more in a future visit. The sauce on the meatballs was delicious and I loved the garlic bread they were served with. The apple crisp dough was not crisp and tasted like oats so was just okay. The serving staff were friendly and efficient but the noise (I know, very fashionable) caused a couple of communication issues. Even though the noise level is loud, once we were used to it, we could hear each other, which is not always the case these days. These small reasons are why I consider Creekwood overall a 4 rather than 5 star, but we will likely go back as I felt maybe it was an off day and the menu is great with many delicious sounding choices.
Our group enjoyed two pasta dishes and a pizza, along with the Burrata appetizer salad.
The food was very good. Our server and staff were friendly and attentive. I would definitely return and recommend to others.
This place is a real gem - great food, nice service. Highly recommend getting a biscuit at brunch!
Another delicious meal, the pasta is just outstanding.
Lovely spot for a Sunday birthday brunch. Beautiful setting and attentive service. Eggs Purgatorio were excellent, as was the Acme Levain toast. Two orders of Avocado Toast with poached eggs were gobbled up. We indulged with a “dessert” order of cinnamon sugar beignets— spectacular! Good, strong coffee kept coming. Can’t wait to come back to try dinner.
This was our third visit. While the food was good this time, the dining experience was not great. It appears that the kitchen was not being properly ventilated. The room was uncomfortably warm, and when we left the restaurant our clothes smelled strongly of cooking odors. Our waiter was also somewhat surly. We will try again, hoping that these issues will be corrected.
This restaurant is in the middle of nowhere BUT is well worth a visit! The food was excellent (especially the agnolotti) and service very friendly and helpful. We ate everything family style so that we could try as many tasty dishes as possible (calamari, pizza and shishito peppers in addition to the pasta). My only negative comment (and it is a small one) the open door to the refrigerator room detracts from the overall warm but clean look of the restaurant.
At the door, the man who appeared to be the owner spoke only to my white friend, even though I (black) was standing ahead of her in line and had made the reservation. Pasta came out hard and undercooked and had to be sent back -- then came out undercooked again. The tomato sauce was nothing special, tasted like the generic canned Aramark stuff from my college cafeteria. The second time we found a unrecognizable flat rubbery object in the pasta/sauce -- unclear if it was a type of meat or not. We stopped eating when we found it, paid the full bill and left. This was our second unhappy visit here. Don't think we'll be back.
Food is really good, especially pastas and salads. It's a little loud for my tastes, but I get that's just part of the modern restaurant experience. We could hear each other fine, so no complaints there.
It was my wife's 50th Day and she wanted a special dinner with friends. Creekwood did not disappoint!!! The owner and staff were amazing and even let us bring in a 50th bday celebration balloon. All the food was amazing!!! Highly recommend Creekwood.
Very nice local place, fun place to dine. And parking
Great bunch place. Really high quality food.
A neighborhood gem. a lot of attention to details and a most lovely and friendly service. The owners are so thoughtfull and really care about making this a successful and worthy destination.
First visit and very pleased with the food and the ambiance. A bit noisy for old ears but chatting with the owner and taking his wine recommendation more than made up for it.
Dined at Creekwood last Wednesday. Started with the Little Gem salad, which was excellent with the tastiest bacon chunks. Then progressed to a Speck Pizza, which combined some amazing flavors of speck ham, blue cheese, and pear. Shared a ribeye steak, bone-in, perfectly cooked. Finished with an Affogato for dessert. I tried the panda cotta, which was a bit richer than I cared for. Overall, the meal was awesome. Host Greg Poulios made sure we enjoyed our evening. Need to come back soon.
The food was pretty good but nothing special. Worst part was that we waited for a table for 40 minutes even though we had a reservation. The host apologized and gave us 2 glasses of wine on the house.
We had a great time for brunch. Hope to get back soon for dinner.
Warm welcome from co-owner Greg. Loved that we were seated immediately even though our third had not yet arrived. Comfortable booths, woods and interesting lights from Wisconsin. The selection of appetizers, pastas, pizzas, entrees, sides and desserts were appealing and not overwhelming. Good wine list, again not overwhelming. I would suggest champagne glasses for the Prosecco though. Meatball appetizer was generous (6) and their fried cheese appetizer was different and delicious. We opted for two appetizers, a Brussels sprouts side and a pizza. Plenty for three of us. Then shared pear crisp and really good chocolate cake with loads of whipped cream. I’m not a chocoholic but that cake was dense and delicious. I’ll be back. A new favorite. Marcia
Restaurant was busy, but table was ready on time. Two of us had the prix fixe offering and chose the Kale salad and pappardelle, the third had the salmon entree and the fourth chose the Speck pizza. We shared the calamari and finger potato appetizer. All enjoyed their meal!!! Portions were good, well spiced and cooked perfectly. The wine list small but adequate and we shared a lovely Italian red. We expect to return soon.
Creekwood is a lovely restaurant. The menu has good variety - something for everyone! They need a little help with their service - we felt it was spotty from start to finish. But not a reason to not go. The food is delicious!
Splendid food - warm setting. I like their Pizza. I will continue to recommend this place to all my friends.
We were in for a very early dinner so unsure of how noise level will progress as the night goes on. It's a bright, happy restaurant providing good looking food. We had a calamari appetizer that was amazingly light and very flavorful. The kale salad was less successful with the onions in a clump and the kale still very chewy. We will able to take it home and toss it in some olive oil and serve it with a stew. The pizza was light and flavorful. We ordered speck with mushrooms as we're not fond of truffle oil. Overall, a successful evening with a bottal of Quivara (a rather light Zinfandel matching the rest of the very European wine list in that price range. Many items still on the menu to try - rather meat centric. If more fish and seafood options could be added, it would increase our intrest in the restaurant.
The food, the service, the ambiance, and did I mention the food?!?! Overall, this restaurant is top notch. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Having grown up in Berkeley, We were a little skeptical when we found out the restaurant was on Sacramento, (which is more of a residential area) but we were pleasantly surprised with the ambiance and over all look of the place!
We had the gnudi and Brussels sprouts for appetizers. So I typically hate ricotta cheese but omg the fried gnudi was so good! It was perfectly crispy and creamy with a delicious tomato sauce to accompany it!
For entrees, we shared the parpadelle, gnocchi, agnolotti and the special porterhouse. Everything was absolutely delicious but the gnocchi stole the show for me. They were perfect little pillows that just melt in your mouth. I would go back for that alone.
As for service, our waiter, Ben was nice and attentive. The owner was walking around and checking on every table which was a great touch because you could see he takes pride in his restaurant!
I can’t wait to go back. Yum!
Food is fantastic! Pizza is one of the best!
We ordered mushroom pizza, roasted chicken, Brussels sprouts and shishito peppers for dinner and ended the meals with a very delicious dessert - panna cotta.
First time for us but will definitely go back very often! One of the finest Italian restaurants in Berkeley!
good food in a small restaurant with friendly owner and staff, open for a year
Disappointing. First, they did not have my favorite Creekwood dish, the stuffed calamari. That is, to me, the highlight of their menu, and until it reappears there, I will not be eating at Creekwood. Then, the Lmb Shank simply did not tast like lamb. It was also served in unusual fashion, not in the form of a whole shank, but as a kind of cross-section of a shank, with the bone vertical and centered. I don't mind the unusual presentation, but I order it because I love lamb, and this rendition did not taste like lamb. My wife observed that her Gnocchi were not pasta, but largely of even entirely potato; this should have been noted on the menu.
Nice folks, good service. Menu could be more interesting. Eggs, hash browns, bacon were fine. Biscuit could have been better. Nice space.
The food and service here are fantastic! Brunch is delicious. The biscuit beignets are dangerously tasty, especially with honey. Creekwood’s fried chicken sandwich with a fried egg added is the best I’ve had anywhere. I would also highly recommend the biscuit breakfast and the French toast. Excellent coffee too! Easy street parking close to the restaurant.
Been meaning to try Creekwood for a year, but finally got the opportunity - me and our daughter took my wife to dinner for her birthday. Service was prompt, friendly, and professional. Food was really good - probably will make a couple different menu selections next time, but everything looked so good that we will confidently order. Great neighborhood spot.
