Small expensive portions far from family style dining pitch, asynchronous meal pacing, flavors inventive but never really reaching the point of craveability.
Took a while to get seated even with a 5:30 reservation but it was worth the wait. Shared 3 small sized plates, and a main between 2 and that was plenty of food. Didn’t need dessert but the sticky pudding for two we had was delicious! Attentive service and food was served at the right pace with barely any wait time. They check in with you to see if you’re ready also. A great experience. Order the quail and and the carrots with razor clams!
Fabulous. All great
Best restaurant in FiDi. I’ve been there for brunch, dinner and lunch and all are delicious.
Everything was perfect about the meal but we did feel like we were being moved a long too quickly. We had to ask the server to bring out our dishes a little more slowly. Instead of getting 5 dishes at once. We ask for 3 and then 2 and then the final 2.
We love to come here. The food is amazing.
Restaurant very good !
Tasty food, and maybe our server just had an off day, but he broke a glass on a guest next to us and didn't give us nearly enough attention. I could have drank at least another glass of wine had he been more attentive. That said...he saved us money! Delicious food though so we'll return and give it another shot when we are in the city.
Very good somelier
Loved food recommendations
Fantastic! Excellent service, food and drinks
I took my wife to brunch here for her birthday. The place is quite beautiful. They have a nice big open kitchen. The hostess, and our waiter were very friendly. The food was pretty fantastic. We ate the French toast and the biscuit with eggs. Also had a cocktail which was newly added to the drink menu and was pretty great tasting- The Genevere CROWN. We wanted to have a dessert which looks like cream filled churros, but our waiter informed us that the dessert we wanted was only available for dinner. So we passed on the dessert and will definitely come back some day for dinner. Even though we passed on the dessert, the waiter still brought out a cream filled donut dessert with a lit candle in celebration of my wife’s birthday which was incredibly nice. And that donut tasted pretty awesome too!
Great food and ambiance. Waiter was good but was very transactional. When you are spending $ to have great food in an attractive setting, you are also looking for the full experience. Wait staff help to provide that if done right.
We had the arctic chard and grilled chicken. Both were delicious and contained complex flavors.
We will be back.
A little too loud and service was slower than usual
Crown shy is a great addition to the neighborhood, especially for weekend brunch. The ambiance is great. Beautiful space, open and airy. A few of the brunch items we tasted from the menu were definitely high quality food.
We will come back and try dinner soon.
Beautiful restaurant. Good food and service. Will return.
The food, especially the short ribs, was excellent. Short ribs are suitable for sharing. Ambiance falls a little short for the lack of tablecloths.
Best food I’ve had in a long time at a rather good deal during lunch time. Glad we went when we had the chance
We had a lovely time and the food was super!
I have been twice and enjoy the casual atmosphere. The food and service were excellent-I would strongly recommend the short ribs for two. They also have a very good selection of wines.
My girlfriend and I have been wanting to go to Crown Shy for quite some time. Finally we made it yesterday.
Food was as awesome as we suspected it would be.
From the gruyère churros, the octopus with morcilla, romaine salad and finally the braised short ribs. All amazing! The deserts were superb as well, nice touch on the satsuma orange sorbet and sticky toffee pudding.
I also liked the versatility of the wine list and got a very respectable bottle for less than a hundred. I appreciate that. It was a Côte de nuits, very elegant, well balanced that fit with all our dishes, it’s subtle acidity was perfect to balance out the fat from the short ribs.
Only draw back was the wine service.
I truly dislike when a server or sommelier opens a bottle remotely from the table and taste it themselves, then make me taste it.
First, why doing it away from the table?
Second, why make me taste it if the sommelier deemed the bottle was not corked?
Third, I can taste it myself and can recognize a corked bottle.
I’m old school that way and would prefer at my next visit to have the server / sommelier open the bottle at the table and have me taste it.
It isn’t the first time I have seen this practice but I cannot stand it.
Besides that, the experience was truly terrific and I am curious time see how many stars Michelin gives Crown Shy next year because I believe it deserves more than one.
I will return soon.
Exceptional service and well-prepared and tasting dishes.
We had two vegans in our party. We gave them advanced notice - when making our reservation AND the day prior when we called them to confirm they were a aware of it. We were told it wouldn’t be an issue and we would still have 3-5 options to pick from.
Our server was flummoxed when we reminded her we had vegan diners in our party. It took her 10 minutes to come back and tell us they could adapt two entrees (two salads) by leaving the animal proteins off the dish. The salads did taste good but without the animal proteins the dishes were so small that we were still famished when we left the restaurant. We appreciate they were able to leave the animal proteins off. It seems excessive that they still charged us the same amount for those dishes though.
Our omnivore diners really enjoyed their dishes and were stuffed by their two entrees and selection of breads.
Pear salad and short ribs were excellent. Service was spot on. I would definitely return.
Wonderful service, very careful to explain everything, and the server was friendly.
The food was smashing! While some of it sounded a bit twee, everything was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. The person I was eating with (lunch) felt the portions were a bit small but it was more than enough for me.
There are several options for non-alcohlic cocktails.
Excellent food and service
Impeccable service and inventive fare. The price fix midweek lunch was surprisingly inexpensive. Perfect for a corporate lunch.
Super! Totally great vibe with outstanding food and service. Will definitely be back. Outstanding addition to the Financial District food scene.
We had the 3 course price fixed lunch. The ambiance is beautiful, service excellent and food sublime. Will definitely be returning again soon.
Outstanding experience all around. Prix Fixe lunch was an excellent value for very high end food and service.
Great space and delicious food. Went for Brunch and enjoyed everything!
The experience there is heavenly, from the staff to the food it’s high marks on ALL aspects. I’ve been there for lunch, dinner and Brunch and the consistency of terrific service never disappoints! Cassidy my last waitress when I was there for brunch was super friendly and added to the wonderful experience that is eating at Crown Shy.Theirs now my fav resto in NY
Have wanted to try this place for a while. Yes it’s all over Instagram and looked amazing. We had the prix fixe lunch for 45 dollars and added on an entreé (the lasagnette!) because I wanted to try so much. I understand what this restaurant wants to be but it fell short of what I had envisioned. My escarole salad was good but nothing to write home about. The short rib sandwich was less then exciting. It was tasty but I wanted a big hit of amazing flavor like you would except from he hype surrounding this restaurant. Honestly it was thinly sliced dry brisket with aioli. Maybe their dinner is amazing (lunch is a more recent addition to service) but I don’t think I would make the trek back downtown to try it.
Impressive space, thoughtful service, excellent prix fixe menu for a fun birthday lunch with out of town guests. We liked the beautiful building and the quality of the preparation. It’s lively without being overwhelming. The signature chicken dish was delicious and substantial. The appetizers were great. Dessert is varied ice cream dishes.
We sat at the bar, the best choice for us. More ambient, bartenders were super nice people! The food was amazing!!
I LOVE IT HERE! By far my favorite restaurant in nyc
I think it was their first day doing brunch. Service was a little slow. I’m sure they’ll iron out the kinks with time
Everything was great but the courses took a very long time to come out! We ordered within 15 minutes of being seated and were still waiting on our entree 2 hours later. I would go back but make sure you don’t have a tight schedule if you go for dinner!

Me and my friend went there for lunch, both of us couldn’t believe this restaurant got a Michelin one star. Bad food presentation, very coarse taste-my salad was too oily and his was too salty. The main course was okay-just okay! And the service is even worse! The servant didn’t come to check and even forgot which course we’ve finished. And what was the purpose of to-go dessert?? Horrible experience! We will never go back again!
some options were delicious. the salad option was sad, just a few pieces of lettuce and nuts
