The best atmosphere I’ve been amongst in a long time. Felt welcome and apart of the German culture with beautiful yodelling and folk music, and the food, ohhh the food! A great place for any occasion, simply wonderful.
It’s always been an experience to dine at the Cuckoo. I think I’ve been at least once every year for the past 15 years. However the food quality and variety seems to have diminished and the staff who was serving us seemed to just pop up every 5 minutes as if there was nothing else for them to do.
Something different for a special occasion
The surrounding view is super. The inner setting is excellent. The food is just average, nothing special or impressive. It is nice to sit inside this restaurant and spent time with family and friends.
disappointed in fact no entertainment as that was the part we also wanted to experience with the food.so . it was just a smorgasbord in a nice environment
I go to the Cuckoo every year and most times 2-3x and have always been pretty happy. But I was a bit disappointed about the lack of variety this time around. There seemed to be less cakes/biscuits on offer, also the creamed rice was missing which our group always enjoyed. The entertainment is a nice distraction from all the eating, but went on and on and was so loud that we couldn't hold a conversation for nearly 40 mins. Maybe to stop people getting up and going for more food?! This hadn't been in the past. It was still overall a pleasant experience and worth the money, but I would not go back again this year.
We've been to the Cuckoo many times over the years and it's always been fantastic! Our most recent visit was a little bit different because we were celebrating a birthday and had organised a cake with the restaurant. Unfortunately, we weren't informed as to when the cake was coming out and when I got back from getting dessert, the cake was already at the table with the candles lit, sitting in front of my daughter, who had no idea what to do. Both our tables were unaware that the cake was even there and it was brought out after the restaurant had already sang a communal "Happy birthday" to whomever was celebrating a birthday on the night. That was most disappointing! It actually ruined my daughter's 18th and she had hand picked the Cuckoo specifically for her 18th because we've always had great experiences there. Aside from this issue, the food was beautiful as always and the entertainment was great. I wondered where the soup and bread rolls had gone too, as on previous visits we were always provided with a tureen of delicious soup and bread rolls and butter. Overall it was a disappointing night for our group of 20, but, in saying that, I'm sure it won't deter us from returning. However, we will more than likely never celebrate a birthday there again.
Fantastic venue for any celebration well done to cuckoo
Great bavarian themed restaurant , autethic food , great vibe and I felt like I was in vacation in the German alpine region.
Staff absolutely lovely.
I remember food used to be more colorful, varied and German in the past. Maybe because it was lunchtime and because there were lots of bus load of overseas tourists?
We arrived on-time for the afternoon tea at 3:30, but the staff were still cleaning up from lunch and were unable to let us until 3:45. At which point there was a line up of people waiting to be shown to their tables. This put us even further behind time. Afternoon tea still closed at 5pm even though we did not start until almost 4pm. So we didn't get as much time to eat and enjoy the music as we had paid for.
Apart from that I thought the entertainment was good and the food variety was very good. Many vegetarian options available.
The restaurant was beautiful, and food is wonderful, definitely have more room to improve but it is a beautiful experience for us.
Came for my Mum's 79th birthday ... great food and service, and wonderful atmosphere!
We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the presentation was excellent. The entertainment was awesome and the historical setting and information was wonderful.
Overall we had a very pleasant Sunday lunch, we all enjoyed , but particularly my elderly mother in law was very happy with the entertainment.
My biggest disappointment was with the information from the website regarding the session times.
Whilst I was well aware that the lunch session started at 1130 no where on the website did it explain the entertainment times. As we had a 2.5 hr travel time to get to the Cuckoo I choose the 1.15pm session time, thinking that with the fact that afternoon tea was offerred that the entertainment would continue all afternoon. Very soon after we arrived the entertainment started and continued for about half an hour during which we need to get our food so were not really able to fully enjoy the session. Anyway had we know that the entertainment was limited to specific time frames we would have choosen an earlier reservation. I feel for the price we paid we missed the value. So please improve your website info or even when the reservation was confirmed by phone the lady could have pointed out that our 1.15 booking would mean we would have missed half the show. Thanks
Excellent service, amazing food and the atmosphere was wonderful.
Service was terrible. Waiter spilt a glass of wine all over me and was not very apologetic. Waiters kept asking if we had finished with our plates when we clearly were still eating. However they only came around once at the start to ask us if we would like drinks. The buffet included tea but coffee was extra? Tea was lukewarm. Very poor service.
Really fun & energetic environment. Great for all ages. Excellent food & entertainment
Great atmosphere. Live music and performance lights up the whole experience.
Althought food selection is not huge, the quality is of the highest.
I don't know much about German cusine, and the lack of labeling isn't helping.
Lovely restaurant, I will try their lunch session next time.
Delicious food, staff were amazing so friendly and quick to bring us drinks, and the entertainment was outstanding could not stop laughing
We had not been to the Cuckoo for several years and were pleasantly surprised to see it still has retained some of it's German atmosphere. The entertainment especially was very good and catered to all the guests(some from overseas). The entertainers were excellent. We certainly wont leave it this long to come again.
Beautiful old building with fantastic decor and ambiance.
The whole experience including accordion player and yodeler was captivating.
A good range of choices at the buffet with a reasonable tariff.
As a family we have been coming to the Cuckoo for years. I love the atmosphere and the children loved getting involved with the singing.
The food is excellent and the staff were more than helpful and happy.
Took some chinese friends there and they loved it. Nothing like this in china. Great food for a buffet and definitely value for money.
We arrived for an early 11.30 lunch and were given a quick tour of the smorgasbord arrangements as first timers and given great seating at a window with a lush green Dandenongs bush view. The food was great with a couple of visits for the main course and deserts of course, and the table staff cleared the table regularly, and in a cheerful mood.
There was light hearted entertainment with guest participation which left everyone in a happy mood.
Great ambience, lovely location and parking wasn't an issue. We departed after nearly 3 hours.
Thanks Cuckoo Restaurant
Hadn't been there in many years but the food and service was still as good as it was 20 years ago looking forward to coming back sooner
Fun place great music and amazing food!
I had my bday lunch here and I left feeling full of great food (the bread rolls and the fruit bread was amazing) the soup of the day was pumpkin which I had two bowls of and I’m not normally a soup fan.
Music and floor show was fun and my friends and I left with a smile
Enjoyed very much will come again.............................🤩🤩🤩🤩🤗🤗
Great night out with family. $55 for a 13year old (Adult price) is a bit steep but otherwise great place.
Wonderful place to get together with family and friends. Great food great atmosphere and friendly services. I can't wait for next visit
We loved spending out first wedding anniversary there with you guys!!
Took the family and our German Exchange Student to the Cuckoo. I was really pleased with the quality of the food, such a choice that made even our German visitor eat too much as she was reminded of her Oma's cooking. The friendly staff and musical entertainers made the whole experience a very memorable one. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience with a big hint of culture. Thank you :)
great value, a beautiful setting and great family destination
Never have I had so many decisions choosing so many different foods. Great selection and well worth the price. Entertainment was awesome and will definitely come back again.
Most enjoyable, good food, friendly atmosphere, family orientated.
Good customer service and good entertainment. Dessert is good
The staff are very welcoming, food was Abundance always been refilled if it was getting low. The entertainment was great loved the atmosphere of the place.
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our Saturday night dining at Cuckoo. We loved the range of food on offer and enjoyed our meals. Whilst there is German food on offer there is a lot of food from other cuisines, the German experience more related to the range of beer, wine and the entertainment on offer. Would definitely go back
