Great selection of food. Fresh & tasty. Great table service. Entertainment was fun but not the same without the full band. Would definitely recommend for a great German experience.
This place is absolutely beautiful. From the food all the way through to the service and ambience. Overall amazing experience and an entertaining and delicious night for all ages. Thanks for all the work you guys put into making it such a lovely time :)
We had the most excellent time. It was my 60th birthday and we have been dining at the cuckoo as a family since I was 10years old and love it just as much. Great food, great people, worth every cent and more. A must go to place.
Food was beautiful when we visited 9 years ago. It was not nice at all, no taste this visit and there wasn’t as much variety.
We were in the empty section of the restaurant, we understand it was a last minute booking but being the only people in that section there was no atmosphere.
Staff were very friendly and attentive.
Sorry this couldn’t be a better comment,
Have always loved the Cuckoo restaurant but was disappointed with the food this time..
Overall was a great night.
I have been coming to the cuckoo for years, but the real tester was my mum who was visiting from the UK. She absolutely loved it. She could not stop commenting on what a beautiful place it is. She is not usually a big eater due to gastric problems. However, on the day, gastric problems be damned. She took a huge plateful and enjoyed every morsel. This is a real testament to what a great place The Cuckoo is.
Good food, great atmosphere and exceptional service.
Highly recommended Cuckoo
We have been coming here for 15 years, I think that the entertainment repertoire has changed much but I still find it fun and engaging, however the food is not good at all. The best things from the whole Buffett were the chicken schnitzel, rhe red cabbage and the pasta sundries tomatoes cold salad. We are Europeans and there is so much more options in providing close to German, Bavarian dishes but what was presented was lacking good flavours and a little bit of creativity. Way overpriced for what was available in the Buffett. I feel the customers who return to the restaurant are the ones who love the atmosphere and the idea of a great meal. Improve the buffett menu and tourists and your regulars return on every ocassion. Still love you though. A Polish customer xx
I love the Cuckoo. The desserts could be fresher, some of the food like the oysters with sweet chilli sauce need improving, and the house Sauvignon Blanc is beyond horrendous but I’m sure we’ll be back at some stage, as we love the feel and the entertainment.
This place has a beautiful decor with amazing cuckoo clock collection. Very good food spread with a good balance of hot and cold food. Would definitely like to visit again.
Wonderful time, food was tasty and very filling.
Very friendly staff inclusive of children. I still can't yodel but I can't wait to have another go.
Enjoyed the atmosphere. Great for family occasions. An evening of fun, sing along, dance and laughter.
The food was well presented, the Waitresses tried their hardest in busy conditions and we enjoyed the presentation of singing and the bell ringing especially. I will be bringing my daughter from Interstate to the Cuckoo next time she is in Melbourne
This is our 1st time here for Christmas dinner as we have been going to SkyHigh for nearly 7 years and
thought to try a different venue.
The waitress that served us during the evening was amazing, great customer service, friendly and always smiling. I think (apology for misspelling her name Dnong or Dnang) was the reason why we enjoyed the night and would like this passed on to her.
As far as the food (hot) could have been better as asked for some turkey and was asked to take the pieces from the baine marie which were tiny broken pieces that other patrons didn't want and were sitting there for some time.
The seating was tight and we felt cramped as there were 6 of us. The bill came for the whole amount which luckily i checked as the deposit was taken out of my account but not reflecting. The entertainment was enjoyable and we liked the fact diners were able to join in. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it to my friend as it's not value for money and won't be going back.
Had a wonderful experience. Thank you very much. Drinks service could have been a bit more efficient
Great service. Plenty of food. Don’t get a table near the food area. We were right on the buffet.
Best time with family again this year and the most beautiful songs for Jesus from the lovely ladies that has Angel voices.
See you again next year.
We went for a family atmosphere to celebrate Christmas Eve in a European way ... and that’s exactly what we got. Just what we were hoping for and we went home happy
We love The Cuckoo, even though we live more than an hour away. Staff are friendly and efficient; nothing is too much trouble. The noise level was very loud but that would seem unavoidable given the number of people there. The only issue we had was a young family sitting behind us. As I am disabled, getting in and out of my place was difficult given their reluctance to ask their children to move. If we were to go again! Iguess the sensible thing would be to let staff know when booking.
All in all we enjoyed ourselves and ate too much beautiful food.
Great food, friendly and attentive service. Warm and inviting environment. The only criticism I would have is there could be a few more hot vegetarian options for the buffet.
This iconic restaurant is in need of a revamp. The food is reasonable the chicken snitzel and battered fish good although the beef and pork were tough. The veges were predictable, boiled baked steamed with little flavour and--sorry guys - the sourkraut was tasteless. The cakes and cookies would make afternoon tea at the Cuckoo worthwhile.
My daughter and I had a fabulous time! There was such a variety of of food and it was all so delicious!! And the customer service was just outstanding..everyone we interacted with were warm, kind and friendly and so hospitable. The whole team at the restaurant was so welcoming and professional. And the restaurant was just beautiful with such a wonderful ambience. And what was the cherry on the cake, were the musicians and the yodeller..they engaged the patrons in such an entertaining way! It was so much fun and made the night so memorable! Thank you for such a marvellous time!
Had a fantastic time staff were so friendly made you feel really welcome and part of the
Family , couldn’t fault one thing .
For a buffet restaurant, the food is ok. What made me give a 5 star rating was really the service and entertainment. The staff were brilliant and so kind towards my children and really made sure we were comfortable and welcomed.
Nice atmosphere, a good variety of food was on offer. The restaurant is outdated, could do with a renovation. The roast a bit dry, goulash will go nicely with mash potatoes.
Have been going to the Cuckoo from time to time over the years and found the food to be very good. All the favorite dishes were still there. The ambiance and show was excellent there was even a couple of chinese songs for some international visitors, very entertaining. It was a good night out.
Absolutely loved the whole experience of the Cuckoo. Haven't been for about 15 years and was so happy to see that it was still the same wth delicious food and great service. Will definitely be back soon.
I always enjoy my dining experience at the Cuckoo restaurant. My extended family has been coming here for years and while it's not cheap, the food is always plentiful and tasty.
It has an atmosphere that does not change for decades, and our boy liked it a lot - the music, the engagement, yet the prices keep climbing and the food is OK, but without major highlights. Also arriving at 2pm I missed on some dishes - cleaning and changing begins at 2:30.
The Cuckoo is a fun experience with the music and singing and old school setting. The kids loved it. Where I felt it was a let down was the food and the rush that was on you to eat it. The variety was ok without being vast and quite delicious. By 1.15pm they were already clearing away the savoury food and wiping down the servery. You felt pushed onto desserts pretty quickly, and tables were being turned over and reset in order to get their afternoon tea session (3.30) ready.
The desserts were ok and some of the cake based ones were stale, and small cookies were burnt.
Overall, I felt the whole process was rushed and it was about turning you over as quickly and efficiently as possible. I would not rush back.
Cuckoo never disappoints. Entertainment brilliant. Staff make you feel welcome. Hope it will continue for many more years,
The food was sensational,
The waitresses were very friendly and helpful
The music was entertaining
Love Cuckoo Restaurant, not my first time there nor my last time!
Loved the atmosphere walking in the door. Food was magnificent. Wait staff were right on the ball. Once plates were empty-a wait staff took them straight away.Entertainment was out of this world-interactive and very enjoyable
Had a lovely lunch, the food was enjoyable and having Caulfielld Grammar "entertaining" us was a bonus.
We have visited first in 1975 and appears the food is basically similar , entertainment almost the same apart from new faces performing on stage.
Lovely to see and hear person playing piano accordian .
Needs more fresh items to be included to keep diners alive and exited, walking around the room and chat to clients introduce a asian intertener ( is bavarian type of restaurant) but trow in asian impersonator to lite excitement among new type of customers.
Great customers at the entry door.
Hope that helps and we wish all the best for future
Fabulous night out.. Great food.. Fun entertainment and excellent service!
As a couple, we visited for lunch to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Sadly, the entertainment was delivered for 2 busloads of Taiwanese tourists with Taiwanese singing songs.
We went for the Bavarian experience which was limited to one female yodeler and some cowbells.
The food was standard fare and the only real Bavarian food appeared to be a few sausages and saurkraut. No pickled fish or similar as was available when I was last there 10 years ago. The food available was okay but not worth the amount paid. Not likely to return.
As a customer of many years, mainly for special events such as birthdays I feel this restaurant still has its charm, great food, very good service and a versatile and entertaining floor show with great singers. I especially appreciate the friendly, multicultural attitude of the entertainers; singing songs from the countries of all visitors and encouraging the audience to join in the dances, music and clapping to the beat. The food was plentiful and a good variety. The specialties were the sourcrout and the pancakes and other delicious cake slices. The salad bar is always good and nice meat, fish and vegetable dishes. I would suggest to add the cooked red cabbage (my favourite which you used to have), the trifle, and perhaps a vegetarian pasta dish (once you even had pizzas). The cauliflower/cheese soup was tasty but we were disappointed you did not provide any European whole wheat, seed or rye breads or at least some wholemeal rolls to have with the soup or salads.
In all, a lovely experience, warm and friendly atmosphere, great food and even greater entertainment. Prices are reasonable too!
Unique & Quaint
Staff were engaging and friendly
Variety of food that was also tasty and well cooked
Can get a little noisy with the entertainment at times
An Olinda gem worth visiting
What an awesome place. Food was amazing and service superb. Music was just at a right noise level, we could enjoy it, but also hold a conversation. Just fantastic
