Wonderful food, and overall great waitstaff, although one staffer was particularly unhelpful, which was disappointing. I wanted my own dish rather than sharing with the rest of the table, but she kept intoning at me like I was an idiot, 'As I explained, these dishes are designed to share'. Last time I checked, I was the paying customer and unless she was paying the bill, I could eat in the manner I preferred, which in this instance was my own main dish.
Amazing service, made you feel special. We had a limited amount of time but we wanted the tasting menu and they made it happen and everything was delicious.
Food was extremely rich but nice. The tables and chairs very uncomfortable and crowded. It was difficult to hear due to the echoes in the room. Food was expensive as were the drinks
excellent service, especially jack owen but all staff were very attentive, and very good food, ambience was more industrial than i was expecting
A place that combines excellent food with good service and a warm ambience. Suitable for groups or families as it is appealing to all demographics
Huge range of drinks, not sure what atmosphere they are trying to create. The following was poor:
1) Waiter was beyond poor in service and at one point our dish came flying across the bar as she ran past and no it was not busy, she failed on many levels that at one point we had to ask the chief who was working on the other side of the bar for help. Only then did the waiters come by and even then she thought it was funny while the chef was not impressed.
2) the food was OK but nothing i have not tried in other places, i do recommend the lamb but considering how bad the service was it sort of ruined the enjoyment in that department.
3) Also not sure why it is a semi open kitchen, it was not that impressive as nothing note worthy was happening in fact it detracted from the food knowing how little was being done to it. Also while we were there all it did is serve to make sudden loud noises as the head chef barked orders as they ran in and out of the front area and again no it was not busy.
4) Make sure you drink if you are going here cause they waiter will keep barking at you what drink do you want rather than see what sort of customer you are and cater to your need while promoting the various items such as drinks. To the waitress since we were keen to discuss the food i would have said you should try this dish which sides well with these drinks. you would have had a better review from us.
5) finally its dirty as it was a cold afternoon we came with jumpers when we arrive we were told that their were hooks under the bar to hang our stuff on. but it appears the area for hanging clothes/hand bags has not been cleaned in years you can see dried splash back on the wall where the stuff would hang. ended up keeping the jumper on my lap and the miss the hand bag on her shoulder. (do you think the waiters notices?)
For Melbourne i think there are heaps better places.
A delicious meal shared with friends. Food was of a very high standard. The service was a little slow but very friendly none the less. Would definitely head back!
Great service, excellent food, glad we had a table rather than sitting at the bar!
Outstanding service and very accommodating of special dietary needs. Hard to find better value.
The food was incredible, would highly suggest the kitchen menu. We sat looking into the kitchen which was really cool. The chefs are real professionals & the serving staff made everything a pleasure.
Great food and service was good. No chemistry between the staff though, the chefs looked like they’d prefer to be working somewhere else.
Beautiful food accompanied with excellent service. Each dish was delicious and memorable. Looking forward to returning with friends
Friendly staff with nice food!
Better come with reservation as it is a popular place at all times!
The meal took forever to be served however the waiter did apologize and gave complimentary drinks. Overall I would recommend to my friends. The food was Devine
Everything good but food a bit slow
Food great and people service was good. Slight put off when main waitress rubbed her nose several times and then proceed to touch utensils that was brought to our table. This is unhygienic - this prevented from a 5 star rating and spoilt the whole dining experience.
Great value and the food was lovely. Perhaps spend a little longer to explain each dish. The restroom was very ordinary.
Delicious! We had the chef’s suggestions and they were very tasty!
Absolutely fantastic experience with caring waiter/waitresses amazing food - every single dish was perfect and delightful. Modern Aussie cuisine with Greek and Italian flavours. Would recommend 100%. Favourites were the Mortadella and Sea Bass.
Our first time at Cumulus and it was fantastic. We shared six dishes between three of us -charcuterie, mozzarella, asparagus, gnocchi, roast potatoes and lamb shoulder. Each dish had loads of flavour and was perfectly prepared. The lamb melted in our mouths. Service was very professional and friendly, atmosphere great. Cost around $170 for the three of us (inc. 2 alcoholic drinks & a soft drink). Would have loved dessert but sadly couldn’t fit it in. Can’t wait to go back. Truly fabulous. Very highly recommended.
Hands down our favorite restaurant in Australia, if not the world. Everything you taste is memorable. Service is on spot. Wait staff are fully in tune with their diners, and craft a tailored experience for each. Refined, yet relaxed. Inventive, innovative, yet classic. Flavors are layered and full of depth. Nothing is ordinary. Everything is special. Wine list is sure to spark inspiration. I love everything and left thinking about the next time I could come back.
- The food was wonderful - amazing flavours and combinations!
- The courses were well paced
- The staff were professional and warm
Overall, our team had such a lovely time - thank you for helping us celebrate the end of our work year with such a delicious and satisfying experience!
Brilliant food, fabulous service it was a wonderfully experience.
Solid Christmas meal with a valued client, it was noisy with Xmas cheer but good for just two. Food was sensational and plenty a available. The wine was also very nice. Outstanding venue
Cumulus has a great reputation but is underwhelming.
We were seated at the bar, which was pretty cool as we could see the chefs in action. The service was a bit patchy, and we had to ask for our orders to be taken. We got the set menu, which was reasonably good. The bread was tasty, and we had nice ricotta spread. The main was lamb and was quite ordinary. And the meringue for dessert was basic.
The food wasn't anything special, and in comparison with other Melb restaurants I wouldn't bother going back.
Food ...amazing. Shared menu was tremendous ... just VERY noisy!
Magnificent! Food was incredible! Loved it. Ricotta gnocchi was amazing
Just great to have interaction with the staff, great food. Faultless
One of the top places to eat in Melbourne with consistently amazing service, food and wine! We always bring out of town guests to show them the best of the city!
We had the shared tasting menu and it was wonderful. Fresh and vibrant flavours and the size of the shared plates was surprising - more than enough for all of us! Unfortunately the service was inconsistent with 6 different service staff at different times - some were lovely and engaging others not so and quite abrupt and one rather rude. We waited a long time for our first drink order and when arrived one of our table still didn’t get her drink. Overall though may have just been a rough day for service. The food though - amazing
nice.good.delicious.fun.classy.good wine.nice yum food.
I have been to cumulus on multiple occasions but this time it was a disappointing visit. We were out for a corporate Christmas dinner and from ordering our first drinks which took 15 min which I had to stop someone to get their attention to then waiting for a further 10 minutes to get the glass of champagne and throughout the night constantly having to stop people just to be served, its was a poor dining experience. One waiter that we stopped for some service responded that this isn't his area and we had to wait for someone else to come over. It was a busy night but there was plenty of staff on the floor wondering around but there was no real care or attention given which anyone dining there would have normally expected. Don't think I'll be rushing back anytime soon.
Really nice place. Nice drink selection, food and the service is outstanding.
The food was amazing and I loved watching the kitchen and listening to the chef, she was brilliant. My only concern was that the stools at the bar were not that comfortable for short people but otherwise I loved it! Thanks
The food is always great at Cumulus, although a limited menu, but the house specialities (Tuna Tartare and Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder) have been around for a long time now. The service was really stretched and the poor wait staff were running around constantly. To be fair it was a Saturday, but clearly they just couldn't cope with the number of diners. On our table they completely forgot the wine order, and then after a long wait all the shared dishes came together, whilst on the next table they had such a long wait that the waiter brought them a free course. Still a nice restaurant, but needs some refresh and attention.
The staff were wonderful, they answered all our questions regarding the menu and were very attentive. The food was delicious and there were many dishes to choose from.
Excellent weekend lunch experience with friend seated at the bar table overlooking the kitchen where we witnessed impressive leadership and teamwork amongst the chef and team. Staff heeded to the reservation note that we were on a tight schedule and ensured swift service throughout. Flathead seared with a bit of crisp to the skin was the highlight, while other dishes including asparagus and mussels were also very good.
A little noisy when you first walk in, but you get used to it. We were seated at the bench overlooking the kitchen, which we didn’t like at first - stools not comfortable, no back support - but watching the goings on in the kitchen was fascinating. Wait staff sometimes hard to catch, but provided excellent information and suggestions. Food was fabulous!
