Had a great time!
Best ethiopian food I have ever had. Great location. Slightly more expensive than other options nearby. Fun cocktail menu that offered lots of options
Delicious! Everything is great.
Awesome Food and Service enjoyed celebrating our Anniversary
First time, we asked our server for recommendations and she really came through. We had the appetizer sampler and a 5 place meal. Was so good, highly recommend!
Great variety and waitress recommendations were perfect.
It was nice
The food was really amazing and well worth the price tag. I would recommend this to anyone who is curious about trying something new, my vegan friends, or anyone else looking for a unique experience. I have had Ethiopian cuisine about 7 times in my life, and this was the best! 10/10 would go again.
The food is so aromatic, and the spices used are in wonderful balance. The Demera Messob for 2 came with generous portions, and the injera is soft and fluffy with its characteristically tangy quality. The main dishes were amazing. My only regret is not having a second stomach to be able to finish everything. The messob could easily serve 3 people, possibly 4 people with extra injera and a some sides.
I really appreciate the accommodations they have implemented to keep dining out a safer experience despite Covid: menus can be accessed via QR code; the servers wear gloves and masks; and the outdoor seating is pleasant.
I’m so excited to have visited this restaurant—I will definitely be back, probably for a birthday dinner!
Demera's a great restaurant offering interesting food. We love it and go regularly.
I have been to Demera several times and I have been to many of the other Ethiopian restaurants over many years. Demera is okay (I really like their Honey Wine-Tej) but not the best especially when it comes to the food. For some reason the food here is NEVER hot and NOT the best; they seem to survive though bc other Better Ethiopia restaurants close down.
The food was amazing but the servers were slow with our requests.
Food was awesome. We have been to Ethiopian restaurants all over the us London and Ethiopia. Food was authentic and people were very nice.
It is always amazing, great staff, and great food
The food was incredible. My partner and I never had Ethiopian food, but I have always wanted to try it. I was NOT disappointed.
First, we got a pitcher of honey-wine sangria which was just lovely. Secondly, we got 3 sambussas (cheese, spinach, and a lentil), and they were delicious. The sauce they came with was a spicy, sweet honey sauce which was amazing.
For our entree, we got the Demera Messob which was a combo that came with 3 vegetarian entrees, 3 meat entrees, and a crepe like bread called injera. We got the collard greens, potato stew, beets/carrots, lamb stew, chicken stew, and steak tartare.
It was absolutely amazing. The flavors were amazing and unlike anything I’ve ever had. The injera/bread was our silverware, and a hearty vessel for stuffing our faces. The combo was listed as good for 2 people, but it easily could have fed the family of 6 sitting next to us.
Service and ambiance were also excellent, and all the staff were safe wearing masks and sanitizing appropriately.
10/10 would recommend, and there are so many things to try that I am definitely going back.
There’s also a TON of vegan and vegetarian options, and honestly the veggie dishes low key stole the show.
A really great place to get authentic and high quality Ethiopian food. Lovely ambiance to have a meal with friends. Great, friendly, attentive service. The food is the same great taste as home cooking from my Ethiopian friends, so it is definitely legit. During these COVID-19 times and social distancing, there is outdoor and indoor space for dining in, and indoors, there is lots of ventilation with open sliding doors so it feels very safe to be in and enjoy a meal. Also, great social distancing rules and very clean with hand sanitizer in multiple places for customers to use. Food is fantastic, great alcohol choices, and the traditional Ethiopian honey wine was amazing!
Ordered the family plate. It was really good.
Amazing food, great service. If you haven’t had Ethiopian food, you have to try it.
The food is always delicious and the presentation is an added bonus. The portions are satisfying and countless options to satisfy all dietary needs. We were pleased with the changes to ensure safe dining. Thank you!
Everything was good but the lack of enforcing masks while walking between tables while in or out the restaurant and using the restroom. Very uncomfortable due to that.
Had an awesome experience at Demera. The food, service, and ambiance were all excellent. I definitely recommend it!
Great restaurant for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Diverse flavors and excellent cocktails.
Demera has been a staple for Ethiopian food in Chicago for many years, and is my favorite Ethiopian spot in Chicago! The food is consistently delicious and authentic, the prices are reasonable, and the service is good. I've enjoyed many dinners here over the years. With the new social distancing rules in place, Demera has several outside tables as well as inside tables spaced out and near the windows in the wall that are fully open. It makes for a great view of the activity and people watching on Broadway. Demera is extremely popular so I'd recommend making a reservation well in advance because the place was packed last Friday night!
The food was great. But the waiter brought the wrong tables food to our table. I touched mine because I couldn’t readily tell what it was. My boyfriend did not touch his. The waiter asked if we touched them and when my boyfriend said no, he took the plate away from our table and put it in front of another guest. I don’t think this was acceptable. I do believe that guest sent it back. But it put a damper on the meal. The food was still amazing.
A pleasant, socially distanced experience. We sat next to the open window with a nice breeze and full margaritas! The food is so flavorful, will be back for more.
Our first time trying Ethiopian food and it was delicious !
I was really looking forward to try and Demera especially because it was my birthday and the first weekend restaurants re-opened with seated patio dining. Unfortunately, our experience was very poor in both service and food quality/value. The tables were full but limited to only about 1/4 capacity so you would think that the service would be very good and attentive, however our service was terrible. Our appetizers arrived well after our meal almost as an afterthought and we're cold. We asked for napkins four different times and never received them so finally just went to the restroom to wash our hands. Our server never came back to our table one time to ask us how our food was or if we needed any more drinks, etc. and had to waive down someone for our check. The food was okay, but not great. I really wanted to like this restaurant, but unfortunately it will be the first and last time we ever go there. Sadly it made a special occasion very un-special.
The open-air seating means getting to listen to music coming from The Green Mill while enjoying phenomenal food. Very vegan-friendly food.
Great food, good drinks, lovely ambiance and excellent service.
Food was good, service was outstanding. I would go back.
Great food and amazing service! This is my go-to place for Ethiopian food!
Went with the family. My father was very excited to try Ethiopian and the food exceeded all of our expectations.
The food was really good. I went with my daughters and it wasn’t so spicy so they could handle it and they loved it too. We made a reservation knowing the place is busy, and it was! The service was excellent as well. We will go back there again!
Delicious food- the beef sambusas and the shai tea were the best part. A bit pricy but overall quality food.
The restaurant is excellent. Staff and service are always good. Reservations are kept and they seat you on time.
As always the food was fantastic, the ambiance very friendly and warm (even though it was about 7 degrees). The bar was very busy but people were enjoying themselves as both my date and I were. Thank you Demera!
So yummy. We had a veggie and non veggie sampler and both exceeded any expectations we had
Fantastic dinner. Wonderful service!
The service is always great there, the staff so kind and the food is jus amazing, this is our regular place to eat Ethiopian food...
