Food was great. servers were attentive. Owner/chef gave us some background information on the coffee my husband thought was the best he had ever had.
nice food and service, enjoyed the evening, dinner inside
Food is always good here, but the service was exceptional.
Aurhentic Italian food in an attractive, welcoming, atmosphere.
Delicious cocktails and food. The service was attentive, but not hovering. Highly recommend.
Shared a positively lovely dinner at Donato & Co. with my Maid of Honour and Mom the night before my wedding, and I am so happy to report the experience was just delightful!
The menu, food, and drinks were great (we each had some tasty cocktails before sharing a delicious bottle of wine, Tenutarossa's Montelpulciano D'Abruzzo), as was the wonderful service. The ambience was also perfectly vibey yet dressed-up for the happy occasion. This was a perfect way to prepare for the Big Day celebrating this big life milestone with some of my favorite most central women. I so enthusiastically recommend dining with Donato & Co. to anyone with buds to taste!
♥
Fabulous food, northern italy, lovingly prepared. The rarity of eating out made this even more special.
Very nice meal! Solid outdoor seating options with heaters. Food was awesome!
The food was delicious and the service was excellent! We will definitely be back!
Our favorite local place for Sicilian.
First time dining out since pandemic began. Date night with my husband. Food was every bit as good as when we dined there indoors, before the world fell apart. Will go back.
Everything was above expectation. We were properly distanced, service was excellent, wine selection is not hige, but there is something for everyone. Food was delicious and portions were generous. We will definitely return!
Wonderful food served by knowledgeable and gracious staff. Our favorite date night restaurant.
Friend’s birthday
Ordered the rigatoni that was undercooked (not even close to al dente) and very bitter with green sauce. A disappointment. Waiter could care less.
Our Server, luncheon and setting was wonderful. Such a wonderful find on OpenTable. Excellent in every way.
I’ve been avoiding dining at any restaurants since COVID began. I passed by Donato (a restaurant I’ve eaten at several times and love) and saw that their outdoor seats were well spaced so decided to make a dinner reservation. It was such a treat to be able to enjoy a date night with my husband in a safe, warm (great heat lamps) place. And as always, the food was wonderful! And as a vegetarian I was delighted to have so many dishes to choose from. Highly recommended!
We had a reservation on Valentine's day. It was raining when we arrived, and there were several tables under an awning, but most were fully exposed to the rain. The maitre d' offered for us to wait or to sit in the rain. Apparently they weren't expecting the rain, as neither were we. Some chose to brave the exposed seating, which looked like it wasn't so bad as the weather cooperated. We waited and were eventually seated under an awning. It was good, but there was no heater where we sat, so it was a little cold. Food and drinks were outstanding, as was our waiter. Overall, this place is very, very good. My fiance (as of this evening:) was very pleased with the choice. More covered seating and heaters would be a plus.
Despite the rain, we still did enjoy our outdoor dinner. Staff was friendly and attentive and food was delicious.
We ate outside on Valentine's Day. There were no heaters or umbrellas outside - just an open sidewalk, no ambiance - and rain was expected. It started raining when we were having the excellent appetizers, and the staff was so clueless they brought out our dinner in full rain. We found our own protection in a store front and moved the table there but by that time our entrees were all wet, as was the table and chairs. No apology from the staff. Too bad because the food was excellent and authentic.
A wonderful experience on my special anniversary with my family, although no one at the restaurant bothered mentioning it , even with complimentary desserts, as other places do. A disappointment!
The meal was extremely good, the pork could had a tad bit of seasoning and more veggies, the polenta was to die for.
At the end the server was a bit confused and switch my bill to another customer, until someone else toke charge. I’m not sure if he never waited table before or simply overwhelmed, but it took a while to receive the check.
I do recommend this restaurant, the chef is simply amazing.
Great food, service, and ambiance. Thank you for a great time!!
We'd happily dined at Donato the black pasta with calamari; and a perfectly cooked Florentine steak with yummy roasted potatoes and broccoli rabe. The service was gracious, as always, and we'll be back soon! Congrats on keeping your standards high in these trying times, Donato!
Outstanding Valentine's lunch. The food was excellent. We had the burrata salad, the small pizza's, a pasta and I also had the swordfish special. The sword fish was some of the best I have ever had.
Great night out. You just need to provide heaters or blankets. We would have stayed and ordered another drink and desert but went home because it was too cold
Delightful, very tasty Italian cuisine. Friendly, attentive service. Good value. Only negative was eating outdoors in the cold without a heater.
During Covid and outside dining. No heaters, but we had blankets with us. Good food, great service. We had a nice evening and will return again!
Gamberi dish was undercooked. The Endive salad had a strong taste of anchovies- although anchovies are not mentioned in the description. Both our pasta dishes were mediocre and lacked flavor. The wait staff did a nice job and were professional.
Food was tasty enough, but felt a bit over priced for the plate of calamari we received- which was way over cooked and rubbery. The carafe of wine we got was more expensive than any of the food dishes, and it was pretty small. The ambiance was not the best- no heat lamps or even outdoor lights. Overall, I wouldn’t come back until indoor dining is open, and probably just for lunch.
The pizza was outstanding, and service was great!
We ate outside on Friday night and it was lovely. The food was truly delicious and our waiter was delightful and charming. We will definitely eat here again. It was truly authentic Italian.
Donato's has a wonderful imaginative chef who offers the best in regional Italian cooking. Their servers are always very nice and attentive. Their restaurant is lovely inside and I hope that we'll be able to eat there again. In the meantime support them with their takeaway, food shop, and outdoor dining.
Donato & Co. is kind of a staple. Not exceptionally amazing, however good tasty food. Service was a bit slow and with COVID dining is simply not the same experience.
I have a hard time understanding why this place is not better known -- and why it took me so long to dine at donato&co. Wow. Everything was great.
Had the gamberi salad appetizer/starter. Huge. The prawns were perfect, and mix of greens and different tomatoes pleasing to eye and palate. The bruschetta was loaded with, again, an excellent visual experience of varied tomatoes.
The wine selections were fun. We tried a few. Standout was the 2011 Toscana, but at $21/glass a wee bit over-priced.
Full bar, with an interesting selection of grappas and amari.
COVID-45 protocols in place. Restaurant at 10-15% capacity (at most). Gloves, masks, distancing, and sanitizer. Felt safe as normal as possible.
Will return, again and again.
I ordered the calamari which turned out to be a mistake. It was tough, the sauce(?) was a bitter disappointment. My wife tasted it when I brought it home, then refused to eat it.
I love Donato's so don't take my criticism as a rejection of the restaurant's cuisine. Every other dish I have had there was great.
Outstanding experience! Excellent service and absolutely delicious food! A perfect evening!
Great food and ambiance. On of the best Italian restaurants in the bay area.
Wonderful authentic Italian food. Attractive ambiance. Great to have indoor tables again. The tables are well spaced and public health guidance is being observed.
Delicious food and drinks!
The food was excellent. We both did pasta and both dishes were hand-made, perfectly al dente, with well incorporated sauce. We went during the pandemic and they had little personal hand-sanitizer for the table, which was charming.
