Fabulous as always! The Som at Donato hasn't picked a bad bottle yet! Looking forward to another dinner.
It's a great downtown spot for cocktails and dinner.
I've been here a few times food is decent but the service has been consistently poor. Waiters don't seem to be trained. This last time they forgot our drinks and only after asking multiple times, the drinks showed up with the entrees. Our waiter dropped part of my plate on the floor. Three bartenders who were more interested in chatting with each other vs working. Other visits it's taken 20-30 minutes just to get bread and water. Such a shame the management doesn't take time to train the staff or upgrade to more professional staff.
Food was very good. The service was slower than it should be at a restaurant of this caliber.
A very mixed review for Donato Enoteca. The entrees were delicious, however, the accompanying vegetables and potatoes were over cooked and soggy. We ordered an additional side of Brussels sprouts that were list on the menu cooked in garlic and rosemary. Didn’t see or taste any garlic or rosemary. The pasta and the fish entrees were perfect.
A nice choice of Italian wines by the glass and bottle.
Service, ugh! Waiter greeted us promptly when we sat down. Took a very long time to come back to inquire on menu questions and our drink orders. Once our dinner orders were in I thought we were all set. Wrong! When the entrees arrived one of the four was completely the wrong item. Had to be sent back and replaced. Dessert was all screwed up. We order a hazelnut cake and sone chocolate gelato. We received chocolate cake and hazelnut gelato. Too late to send back, we had a performance to get to.
Great food. Service wasn't fast, but it wasn't slow either. Brush up on your Italian wines before you go.
Authentic and wonderful! Our waiter Giuseppe was fantastic. Enjoyable and all his suggestions were fabulous!
The service was great, however the food, not so much.
This is a great Italian restaurant. The menu is very stable and their osso bucco and squid ink pasta are really great. The fish offerings can be hit or miss but the vegetables are always market fresh and interesting.
They usually have a special menu which is a good deal, otherwise the overall price can go North of 60$ depending on the wines you are tempted by (they have a wonderful selection).
Had a date, great experience all around. Definitely coming back in the future.
The corkage fee was steep
Menu was limited
Food was great
Service was great
The happy hour small plates were an excellent introduction to their palate. The margherita was the best 🍕 I've had West of Pittsburgh PA.
The food was not as good. The margarita pizza source was not flavorful and the pasta was also not great.
The entire experience was unsatisfying. We came for lunch on Saturday and the restaurant was not really busy. Service took forever, we sat at least 20 minutes before our server even came to our table, he barely checked in after we received our food. It felt like the busboys were our waiters. I had to constantly ask for more bread, butter, water, etc. I had the carbonara - it was mediocre, bland and flavorless. The rest of the entrees at the table were all right, the seafood dishes were pretty small for the price, but overall nothing was outstanding.
Went there for a business lunch, we arrived a bit late and asked our waiter if he could please rush our meal since we had a hard stop. Waiter was very accommodating and very attentive. Food was great and even though we had to rush, our waiter never made us feel rushed. Thank you!
Nice place conveniently located in downtown Redwood City. Even has decent parking located nearby.
Mostly, truly excellent food!!
Saturday evening dinner date (new woman) & food is lukewarm. Otherwise stellar as usual.
We like the food at Donatos, but service was not great, and detracted from the evening. As an example, my spouse asked for a wine recommendation, citing what style of wine we preferred, but the recommendation from the waiter was the exact opposite kind of varietal (not obscure varietals, the most common, so this wasn't an advanced wine discussion). Other interactions during the evening were similarly unhelpful (although the waiter was always courteous). Later it took approximately 20 minutes for dessert to arrive, with no explanation until we went and found the waiter. These are not custom-made desserts, and no explanation was offered for why they came so late.
Went to celebrate a Birthday and our salads and pizza were ok, nothing special. Wine by the glass is overpriced at $18. average
Sadly Donatos has seen better days when it was a fine dining restaurant. Today the ambience is more like an upmarket Olive Garden but with much better food.
In fact the menu is good as is the quality of food, it’s authentic Italian. However the ambience has changed and it’s “kid friendly”... I’d say maybe too friendly!
A perfect place to savor amazing food! We will definitely return.
Worst food options for valentines day. I would never visit again period.
Food and service was superb. Having to wait in line even after making a reservation was the only inconvenience.
We made a reservation, but our table still wasn't ready until 20 minutes after we arrived. Service was mediocre, and food is overpriced. We ended up paying $80/person for an okay meal.
A very pleasant overall experience. All dishes were at or above par in quality, and reasonably priced. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the wine list and dishes. It was our first time, and she provided excellent guidance on flavor/texture, portion size and matching. Restaurant is much bigger than it looks like from the outside. It is formal enough that the evening felt special, but still retained a local favorite spot.
food and ambiance was nice. Service was rushing us through our meal
The is one of our favorite restaurants. Every bite of food is filled with flavor and texture. Each dish is almost a work of art.
Great food and a friendly place for a date or bring the family
Our fried appetizer was served ice cold and when we asked about the dish, the server told that was totally normal. That was clearly untrue, which indicated that the server didn't care. The lack of caring was even more evident when we asked about the 'special' dessert they would give us twice - first, we let them know it was our 9 year anniversary and the server told us they would figure something out. On the second time our check was given to us and we had not received any complimentary dish or dessert. We asked about what they could do for us on our anniversary again, and the server responded as if he did not hear our request the first time...
but when our dessert finally arrived, it was handed to us by someone we did not know who then said 'happy birthday' as they placed it on our table. It was definitely one of the worst anniversary "nice" restaurants we went to.
Favorite Italian restaurant on the Peninsula.
Has the risotto. The pork was a bit over cooked.
Best Italian restaurant on the San Francisco peninsula, unique menu, memorable food.
The Veal chops where over the top. A couple of the items we ordered were not available, have a second option in mind.
Have been going there for years. Great, fresh, authentic cuisine. Great for a casual dinner ir any special occasion.
Great service and food is always GREAT. Too bad we were in a rush and didn't have time for dessert.
Pizza was good, that’s about it. Ordered sea bass, don’t think it was. Veal chop was tough, only ate 2 bites. Server could not have cared less about our table. Wine was good. Bus boys were very attentive.
Always consistent in their food and service
Always a treat. Love the pasta and the pizza! Extensive wine list.
We were celebrating my wife’s birthday. We had a wonderful evening!
The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. We shared and/or tasted many plates and found them all very tasty.... really a great dining experience, even as viewed by the rather picky, native Italian at our table! That said, what could they do better? A delicious ravioli dish arrived semi-warm, not hot, and the ravioli 'plin' had rather thick pasta (but was hot!). The veal steak was excellent quality, but not a dish that stood out overall. All the appetizers and both desserts we tried were absolutely delicious. The server was refreshingly well-versed both wine and food offerings. Even though it's quite a distance for us, we'd go back in a heartbeat since the overall experience was great.
