Christmas Eve Special Menus & Offers
Join us at Donato Enoteca to celebrate Christmas Eve with a special menu.
Limited menu. All ordered different entrees. Food good but not great.Did not have some alcoholic beverages & wines requested. Service very friendly but slow-possibly understaffed?
Nice birthday dinner here, delicious food, great service. We sat on the front patio so could hear street and train noise but wasn’t a big deal. The waiter even brought water for our dogs! Very thoughtful throughout.
Delicious food and fabulous, upgraded outdoor space.
Love the ambience of this restaurant. Our waiter was amazing and very attentive. Very knowledgeable about wines. I ended up purchasing a bottle of the Italian white wine to take home that we had been suggested. Our appetizer which was the squash appetizer with goat cheese it was delicious. My braised short rib with polenta was good, but I must admit that it was a lot of money for not much meat and the polenta was delicious yet both items were not hot when they came to the table more like lukewarm I have to say that the highlight of the night was the tiramisu which was the best tiramisu I’ve ever had. All in all it was a positive experience, a bit overpriced, but a definite foodie place!
We had outdoor seating for lunch. They have these lovely wooden booths, so cozy and comfortable. There's plexiglass for virus and rain protection, but we were still able to enjoy the sun when it came out. The food is excellent as always.
None of the wines sampled were remarkable. They had a martini like drink on the menu which was awful - gin and sweet vermouth - that tasted like a half finished Negroni. They managed to produce a mediocre margarita pizza. The sauce was thin and flavorless. the crust average. The gulf shrimp calamari and lamb sausage appetizers weren’t bad but the radicchio based salad was poorly chopped and scattered on the plate and should have come with a label that said some assembly required. The staff was inattentive and distracted - there was a large party in the place but that’s no excuse. Not recommended.
The foo was great. Some more vegetarian dishes on the menu would be great.
Early bar seating. Fabulous.
Donato Enoteca is one of the best authentic Italian cuisine restaurants in the Bay Area. Donato himself and his team offer original dishes from Northern Italy with great appreciation for "homemade" style and great attention to genuine ingredients.
I highly recommend it to food lovers!
Food and service always terrific. Veggie ravioli is excellent, as is delicata squash salad.
One of the worst dining experiences I have had in my life. We went for the white truffle menu, $90-$120/course/person and the food ranged from tasteless to mediocre. The service was even worse, it took 1 hour to get the first appetizer and a drink, the pasta course only came after I asked to speak to the manager. It was on a Sunday evening so no excuse for being too busy. A very expensive Barolo was served by the carafe, but it could have been anything, no bottle was shown. Same for the white truffles, they should be shaved table side, our dishes came prepared and the truffles were bland, lacking taste and smell. They did offer to credit us for the appetizers and gave us two glasses of wine but for $450 that was no consolation.
I never leave reviews on restaurants but this one was such a big disappointment for our anniversary that I feel the need to speak up. I am not sure how this place has the reviews that it has - genuinely made me wonder if the reviews are fake.
Service - our waiter was great. There was nothing he could have done to make the experience better, he was very friendly, checked-in regularly, and even got us a free dessert for our anniversary. The food took a very long time to come out (+1 hour) but that was the case for everyone.
Seats - even though we had made a reservation, we had the “worst” seats in the restaurant from what I could tell. We were seated on a window in the room that is separate from the rest of the restaurant (behind the host desk). Our seats in particular make you feel like you are sharing a table with the people seated outside by that same window. There is no space in-between the tables to the window for either party. Also, the room we were seated in has a completely different ambience than the rest of the restaurant. It looks cheap and not like a “date-night” spot whereas the rest of the restaurant is actually quiet beautiful and modern - which is what I had expected for the night.
Food - biggest disappointment of the night. If the food would have been even DECENT, I wouldn’t be leaving this review. The entrees were so bad that I couldn’t finish mine (which never happens…). It was not enjoyable at all. I would go so far that I would say it tasted disgusting. I was so surprised because the food LOOKS great (on the internet and even first when it’s served to you) but it doesn’t taste the way it looks. I don’t know a better way to describe it than the flavors were just off. It tasted oily, fishy, unseasoned/bland. The only things we enjoyed were the appetizer and the dessert. This is what we ordered:
Calamari Appetizer 7/10
Squid Ink Pasta 0/10 (usually my favorite)
Braised Oxtail Pasta 1/10
Panna cotta 8/10
Slow service. Cold entrees. Very disappointing experience at what used to be one of our favorite restaurants.
As always a lovely dinner. We always look at the menu but order our favorites every time.. I think the risotto with pork belly has my name on it.. a great go to spot..
All of the dishes we ordered were delicious and different from what we usually get in an Italian restaurant. Each dish had a beautiful presentation and most everything on the menu were completely different from what we'd ever had before. We will definitely go back.
As usual, Donato Enoteca did not disappoint. Impeccable service, amazing and most importantly authentic Italian food and wine.
Very good food and great service. Had a pasta dish, delish!
Very nice setting for a business dinner. Nice wine list that’s also affordable. Food was very good
Excellent food and service, RAVIOLI BERGAMASCHI, and SALSICCIA E FUNGHI Pizza were my favorites. The bread and wine (2016 Tenutarossa Montepulciano) were also excellent as were the desserts, latte, and limoncello. Service was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. I'll look forward to trying more dishes on my next visit.
Always a treat and I'm in love with their charcuterie plate!!!!
As always, this is the perfect restaurant for a special occasion where you don’t like driving into The City. One of the top restaurants on the Peninsula.
Our food was better than ever! We love your new outdoor seating!!!
The fish was bland. The pizza crust was not well cooked.
Service was ok but not good.
The grilled cod and the sea bass were disappointing. The lobster stock that came with the cod dish was flavorless. The sea bass was cooked to the point of being dry. The grilled prawns with mixed greens was OK but the dish was overflowing with greens and had only 4 prawns. Also the latter had very few cherry tomatoes and even fewer garbanzo beans.
the pizza was cold and the focaccia pollo was not very good, very good service as usual
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our party stayed after 2 PM when the restaurant was supposed to be closed and we never heard a complaint from the staff or an invitation to leave. The food was very good, the desserts and the coffee were excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.
Our food was all solid, but none of it was especially flavorful. They’ve done a very nice job with outdoor seating, and the wait staff was all attentive and helpful.
Food just okay. Not expensive however. They have that additional service charge. Parking was terrible the day we ate there due to some type of festival.
Food was very disappointing. Worst octopus i've ever eaten, it tasted like salami and was over some food item that was indistinguishable. Squid ink pasta was tasteless, pizza was soggy and ravioli was not at all tasty. Three italian food lovers and we will not be back. Restaurant was empty compared to others on the street and now we know why
Great lunch, friendly service, plenty of distance....we'll definitely be back.
We started with a small amount of their lovely bread with an addictive sauce with olive oil, olives and several herbs. YUM! I could have had a bowl of it alone for lunch. We didn't ask for more bread, so as not to spoil our appetite, but did get more sauce, which we piled on the bread...OMG! I'm drooling as I type.
Then we shared a pizza and salad. The chicken in the chicken salad was well spiced, surrounded by an assortment of crispy fresh salad greens. The pizza was gorgeous and tasty!!
Outside seating was very spacious and we never felt nervous.
That said, we went on a Sunday at midday and it was very quiet.
There was ample seating inside at the bar, where no one was sitting there during our visit.
I'll look forward to trying some of their pastas on our next visit.
Always the great place to go. My wife and I like Donato very much.
Our server and the manager were both amazing.
Never disappointed by the service or food here. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought out a Panna Cotta with a candle on the house. We had the shrimp appetizer, buckwheat pasta, cod with lobster sauce, squid ink pasta and pizza margherita. All amazing! In addition to the birthday dessert we also ordered tiramisu and their special peach tart with carmel sauce and limoncello. Everyone tried all the desserts and our favorite was the peach tart. Our server could not have been more helpful and friendly. Truly a wonderful evening.
Amazing food exceptional service!!! The flavor combinations were exquisite...every bite. A taste of authentic Italy right here!
Great food service and atmosphere. We sat at the patio, very spacious.
Homemade pasta with mushroom and vegi ravioli were amazing and the bread was too.
Will be back
Amazing new place outside at Donato!!! Delicious food and with a beware, kind waiter! Beautiful friend Night: thank you!!!
Delicious food and cocktails
Presentation of dishes were appealing
Restaurant decor and ambiance were inviting

I am so impressed with the staff. Everyone from the hostess to the wait staff to the kitchen staff was attentive and considerate. The food was excellent and they accommodated every request we made. Thank you for an amazing experience!
