    It was a nice atmosphere, but we spent over $100 dollars and I had one drink and a couple of tacos and my husband had a burger and 2 beers. They were very busy so I can't blame the server, but there was most likely not enough help for a night with an event at the convention center. I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

    My experience was very unpleasant and the food was horrible. I ordered the “Signature Dish” that was spareribs with mole that was slopped on the dish with cut vegetables. The taste was unpleasant with too much cinnamon added in. My wife ordered the tacos and never received the rice and beans that was part of her order. Were first put in our seat in a very dark corner with almost no lighting . I asked a waitress if we could move, she told us it was too busy and other people were coming in. I had to get a manager to move us in better lighting so we could see our food. Overall a horrible experience that I will share with others and a huge disappointment for us the night we were celebrating our anniversary together. -Dominick

    I had looked at their dinner menu online prior to making reservations. Their online dinner menu was limited but we found things we were ok with. Our reservations were for a Thursday and much to our surprise the menu was actually more limited than the online menu. The only entrees they had were short ribs or mex burger. The food was nothing special. Service was very good. The servers were very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. If we stay at the Doubletree by Hilton Downtown Convention Center again I think we will venture out to somewhere else for dinner.

    We had reservations for 5:45; we arrived there on time; had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Another 15 minutes to get a server. Asked what Chardonnay they had and they said we only have the house Chardonnay. Their wine list included two others but they were sold out. We were then told it was buffet only tonight. We were fine with that although it would have been good to know when we reserved the table. I went over to the buffet table and almost everything was finished. I took what they had and it was not enough food for dinner! This is definitely off our list. Worst dining experience in Tucson by a mile.

    Was incredibly disappointed that the only way to eat was to pay for a buffet meal. Not what we had planned at all. Ended up just having a drink and leaving since there weren’t any other options to eat

    Food at the buffet was mediocre. We could not order individually from menu because of of the rock concert at the Convention Center next door. Assume they did not have the wait staff, which is an issue at many restaurants.

    We made reservations to dine here yesterday for dinner before the concert at the Tucson Arena, because of its proximity to the venue, and because we have dined here before and enjoyed our meals. However, when we arrived there was a "surprise" menu bearing no relation to the normal menu. We also expected a sit-down meal with table service, and it turned out to be just a buffet with just tacos. One of us is a vegetarian, and there was no option available for him. Another did not like the one entree option. So, we therefore walked out. At the very least, the restaurant should have informed us of the menu change in advance--via phone call (Open Table has our number) or via the website--and then we could have made alternative plans, (We could not make a last minute reservation anywhere else due to the concert). This restaurant is too risky now for us to go to before a concert. I would recommend calling the place in advance (I don't know, though, how far in advance they planned to change the menu) or going elsewhere.

    The guacamole, tacos and goat cheese and veggie salad were great. Service very responsive. Sat outside on lovely patio with sprinklers. All in all, a great dinner before the symphony.

    Absolutely the worst service I have ever had. The waitress was totally incompetent. Tried to bring appetizer after main course. We told her it was too late, and she put it on bill anyway. Ordered tacos which came with rice and beans; the tacos came. When we were able to flag her down and asked for the rice and beans, she took another 10 minutes to bring them. Terrible service, ruined the first part of our stay in Tucson.

    We really enjoy El Mezquite as the flavors are fresh, vibrant and creative. We enjoyed the fresh catch and the tamales with beef barria. Wow! Delicious! The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Isabel was our service professional who was very nice, attentive, and made the evening dinner very enjoyable. Christopher Sapp is a superb hospitality professional who is very kind and focused on his guests experience. He is Mr. Hospitality! We will be back!

    When we arrived to be seated, they could not find our reservation. I offered to show them the reservation on the app but they had no interest. Too expensive for the quality while the food was alright, it was just simply too expensive, uncomfortable chairs(they need a chair cushion for the dining chairs and your back!) — don’t believe we would return.

    Food was on the bland/tasteless side. The kitchen could not serve Tempura Market Fish because they did not have tempura powder? The space was nice, opening to a patio setting and there was even a breeze! Best thing going was our server!

    It is a nice restaurant, and the dining room was very pleasant with the doors open to outside. The menu is limited, and especially if you do not eat meat. It used to have a larger menu.

    The location is perfect for just about anything downtown. The service was attentive, and the food was outstanding! My cheese crisp was a full (and delicious) meal.

    Wow, just wow! We had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for four nights and ate breakfast and dinner every day. The food is exceptional! The ambience and decor are fresh and inviting! Chef Carlos is a master! He makes everything from scratch including the amazing pineapple preserves for toast! On our very last night, he personally delivered our appetizer and entree to our table! His take on Mexican cuisine is so unique and full of flavor. The appetizer knocked my socks off--we tried the Mayan Pepita dip! This was unlike anything I had ever tried--so flavorful and the pita bread served alongside had a tad sweetness to it which paired perfectly with the mild spicy dip. For dinner we shared the El Mez tamales with the slow-braised barria. Again, knocked it out of the park! Full of flavor and the tamales themselves were so tender--not dry like many tamales I've had in the past. This hotel, this restaurant was such an unexpected surprise, and we cannot wait to return to Tucson to stay and eat at this little gem! Thank you Chef Carlos and team!

    First time at El Mezquite Grill. They were having an all you can eat taco buffet, but my wife doesn't eat that much. The chef allowed her to order from the menu, which made her happy. The food was good and the service very friendly. We will eat there again on one of our many downtown outings.

    Delicious brunch, attractively served, with pleasant servers and staff. Our only complaint would be that there probably weren't enough servers, considering it was Mother's Day and there were a lot of guests. We had a lovely time!

    Eclectic menu sorta Mexican with a couple of unique items that are not typical "hotel" food. The location is beautiful and the live music was good from 6-8. Service was so so, a bit slow, and wasn't crowded.

    Our food was excellent as usual, service was a little slow. We been here twice both times food excellent, service slow. Either they need more kitchen help or more wait staff. Otherwise I consider it a good place to eat.

    We haven't been here in awhile, and won't be back. The room is lovely, the servers are very friendly but some of them have not been trained properly. Everything was delivered at once: our first course came at the same time as our entry. The salads were a thrown together affair, the roasted corn was old and dry, the fish was inedible. The server was kind enough to take it off our bill.

    We made an early reservation at 5:30 At 6:30 we had no food. The waitress very apologetic as well as head waitress. Chips and salsa brought to table, but no dinner, saying the chef was behind. Our beverage was brought promptly by the waitress. There was no dinner at 6:55 , we were never served. Head server said they would comp the meal, but their was no food delivered in time. We left.

    This restaurant is next to the Music Hall. Many people were there to get dinner before the show. After going to the bar to get drinks after waiting for service for 20 minutes, I asked about getting ordering food. I was told the kitchen was backed up and hour and a half! We never got food and nobody even came to ask for our order. This is my third time there since they have opened and they always had some kind of drama with the kitchen.

    I was REALLY disappointed. I had been twice before and the food was very good that’s why I returned with friends from out of town that specifically wanted to get good Mexican food. This time, it wasn’t good at all; the guacamole was not seasoned and had unusual vegetables inside, the carne asada tacos were extremely dry, other tacos were equally not impressive, including the special Birria tacos, the refried beans seems taken out of a can, the rice was just plain white rice, sticky, not cooked or seasoned properly. We had churros for dessert that tasted good but had a very strong chemical odor. Drinks were ok. Service was fine too, but the food was not. Will not return.

    Our cocktails were great! Dinner average or less. No goat cheese eliminated one salad option. Seems they ran out of the cheese the day before. Surely goat cheese available from somewhere? Tamale dish nothing but cornmeal? Black beans crunchy. My friend said the refried beans were very good.

    Have been there a few times. Portions seem to be getting smaller and entree selections are quite limited. Most entrees seem to come with potatoes, but yellow and green veggies are absent. Our first visit, last year, was terrific. Each visit seems to be less so.

    We were there to eat prior to the hockey match. With only two tables with guest, the hostess tried to seat us at a table just outside the kitchen door. After our refusal to sit there we were reseated elsewhere. Three of us wanted the Short Ribs, which were not going to be ready for another hour at least they said. So that meant 7:30pm. So we all 4 had the special tacos with beef. Two of us, basically had all fat and could not eat our meal. The beans were bland. Very sad, because the restaurant had a nice vibe.

    Had reservation arrived early and were immediately seated. Ten minutes to get drunk from the bar, 45 mins for entrees. One had nice presentation and flavor but not hot, the other the tortillas were so tough you couldn’t chew them. I went to trip adviser to look for restaurant near Tucson music hall. Looked at their menu and it looked really good: 8-10 entrees, shrimp, fish, beef, chicken, pork. When we arrived and were shown the menu there were only 4 entrees. Very disappointed
