Love it- good food and service and excellent location
Food was very good, but noise was a bit disruptive
Yes just a little expensive if you are a regular otherwise pricing is acceptable.
Very noisy, but overall a good lunch venue. More vegetarian options please?
Great spot, nice busy atmosphere.... but
- food was average for prices asked
- acoustics are poor in there, simply too loud when busy.
- it’s one of the few true beach view restaurants around but need to pick up the food and noise game a bit. When they do they will be a hit.
I am sure they will get things together. Nice manners with all wait staff, nice and friendly.
Service was genuinely friendly with a smile. The place is airy with floor to ceiling windows overlooking Port Philip Bay giving a magnificent view. I can honestly recommend it as a place to dine at. I took my wife there after work on our way home on a Friday night having pre-booked a table online. It was a totally pleasant experience.
My friend and I had a lovely evening. Food was good and service was very good to start with but after finishing our drink we were not asked if we wanted anything else to drink. We both had soft drinks as we are doing Febfast but the staff did not know that. Towards the end of the evening, at approx 9pm, the staff were moving tables, and furniture around us. They may have had a function on the next day but this should either been done after all customers had left or we should have been asked if we would like to move to another table for our coffee, and an apology would have been nice.
We still had a lovely evening and I would certainly return, but staff need to be a little more aware of customers.
What a fantastic setting and atmosphere and very tastefully decorated in a nautical theme . Food and service was very good, our waiter was so friendly and very funny. Great choices for drinks as well . We loved it. !!!!
The view was incredible. The service was poor (had to ask for our orders of coffee several times before they arrived). The food was good but the avocado on toast was a tiny portion and very over priced considering. The coffee's were terrible especially considering it took so long to get to us. I would go again but it would be for the view.
Great food, great view, great ambience. The noise level is a problem. It was quieter previously when there were "sails" on the roof.
I have not been to the venue for several years when it was a different restaurant. I will be back!
Great food & excellent service.
The wine list was far too expensive. $80 for NV Chandon which is $20 at dans. Insulting. The food was at best average and pricing well above average. Great view but the noise was unbearable. Won’t be returning.
My fiancé and I used to come here when it was Sails on the bay. It’s more casual now and has more of a family vibe as to a fine dining and romantic vibe before. The service is impeccable so I’ll give them that. I agree to most people that it can be very noisy when its packed. The food is nice and the ambience is perfect! Thank you!
had to follow up drinks orders with waiters a couple of times but otherwise food and service was very good
Unbelievably noisy. Thankfully nice waiter moved us to a quieter end of the restaurant so at least we could hear each other speak !!!! But we won't be going back unless weather permitting one can sit outside. A great pity because the decor is great, food and service good but seriously suggest attention needs to rectifying the noise problem
Always enjoy our visits to Elwood bathers! Just wish they could do something about the noise level!
Our waiter was terrific!!
I'd recommend Elwood Bathers for the beautiful setting and wonderful view. The staff are extremely charming too.
The menu is a little inflexible for breakfast.
Maybe I'm getting spoilt by all the breakfast options out there.
But extras such as mushrooms, herb tomatoes and even crispy bacon all add to a delicious plate.
And when they only put avo on one slice of toast, you feel a little let down.
The bread, by the way, is tremendous.
Firstly, let's start with the location - right on the foreshore in Elwood. That does mean fairly pricey parking but feeling like you're on the sand watching the sunset is worth it. The room is freshly decorated - think bright and white, tan cushioned banquettes, blue and white French cafe chairs, it's a lovely space and suits its location.
Service is friendly and warm and efficient - all the staff we engaged with were great. Drinks quickly on arrival, everything delivered with a smile, checked in on a few times during the meal.
Good wine list with a lean to italian choices. We chose the Pizzini pinot grigio and it was lovely. Not badly priced (fairly typical of Melbourne restaurants).
The menu is a solid length with lots of different choices. Think modern Australian cuisine. Lots of vegetarian options. Lots of seafood but also great burgers. We chose calamari, chicken liver parfait and the walnut/parmesan/rocket salad to share as starters - all were great quality, decent servings. The salad was especially generous and dressed well.
For mains we had chicken with puy lentils (not dry, well cooked, great serving), zucchini flowers on salad (a bit mean given the price point but well prepared), the burger (mince meat should be cooked well done but the flavour was great).
Desserts ordered were chocolate parfait and creme brulee. Neither were great especially given the $18 price point.
We had a lovely evening - we were able to sit and relax (we had a post 7pm sitting which doesn't require an early departure). The sunset was magical and it really does make the evening.
The food is very good quality but I'm not entirely sold on the value for money.....
It's hardly a cheap local (although there really is no such thing bayside in Melbourne).
We will be returning :)
Took a while to be seated as the manager was busy talking to someone. Was warned strictly not to vape inside in a a serious and demeaning manner as I just put it onto the table. And when I left was told sarcastically to hole my card on the payWave and wait for it to beep. Ruined my whole experience. Don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon.
Beautiful views and buzzing atmosphere. Food is a little pricey so probably paying for the view/location and the restaurant charges for standard items like aioli, which is a bit mean spirited. However, overall a good spot for a nice lunch/drinks near the beach on a summery day.
Great atmosphere, relaxed and beautiful view! Is great for kids!!
Elwood Bathers was a last minute choice for us as our first (and second) choice restaurants were closed, and we are so glad they were.
Staff could not have been more accommodating from the moment we arrived and I was blown away by the service and the stunning venue. It’s worth it for the views alone.
There’s a great choice of dishes on the menu, and it’s the first time I think I’ve ever dined our and every single member of the table cleared their plates for every course, without exception. While there’s a two hour time limit on the table for early bookings we didn’t feel rushed at all, and the prompt service meant that we still had plenty of time to enjoy dinner and drinks afterwards within the time limit. There’s also the option to move over to the bar area if you do want to continue your night further.
I took a friend for her birthday but we were both very disappointed in the meal. I had the chicken burger which had very little chicken, it seemed to be all batter and bread, not much else. My friend had the heirloom tomato salad that was just large chunks of tomato that were quite old, with the buratta on top.
The location and setting is great and the service was quite good, but the food was just not up to scratch.
Some staff were professional but most were not,the boys that DROPPED our food at the table were scruffy and scratched there face also had open cuts on there hands,.
Will definitely return. Really nice food ( Brunch) and service was great. A little noisy for me as I have a hearing impairment, but understand that the noise is unavoidable.
Great meal and overall experience. Outdoor patio had a bit of a wait, but was well worth it. Seemed like a popular destination for brunch and an afternoon glass of rose or bubbles . Great people watching Location if you’re into that.
Great venue. Love the feeling of the place and staff
Looked after the family well for our special occasion. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the excellent service. Most definitely recommend it as a great venue with terrific views over Elwood beach.
Great service, delicious food and professional and friendly waiters that helped organise a table for us after our meal with continued drinks service. My absolute favourite restaurant in Melbourne!!!
Great location and service from our waiter was excellent.
Too loud and overpriced. Great location with friendly staff.
Food was ok. Service very poor. A cracked glass, waited over 20 minutes to have entree plates cleared and order another beer. My toddlers food came out well after my food.
A beautiful room on the beach. Its not too noisy and the service was excellent. A fine place to have lunch on a fine day.
Nice for a relaxed family lunch on New Year's day. Beach full of activity and good vibe in restaurant.
Excellent service, great food and good value. Plus a stunning location!
Very good ambience was very pleased that NYE was al a carte & not a set price! Food very good but always room for improvement good wine list & service was exceptional seeing packed house! Very professionally run restaurant have been on previous occasions & will definitely return
Arancini overcooked. Cos Heart Lettuce brown plus no flavour!
Drink order wrong!
We had a really average lunch here on Sunday. The setting beside the beach was lovely and there are windows on 3 sides of the restaurant which give a nice view but this was where the positives ended. The service was slow and inaccurate, the server had to check multiple times whether he was bringing the correct order and our drinks took nearly half an hour to arrive. The noise was so loud that you couldn't hear anyone across the table. The food was nothing special. The prawns on the salad were over cooked and the vegetable pieces were so large they had to be cut before eating. The flavours were bland and unimaginative which was disappointing when ordering a $40 dish. In the end our experience was an over priced average meal with a nice view but we were unable to have a conversation. At this price there are much better beachside dining options in Melbourne
Our recent visit was for a special occasion - wedding anniversary. Elwood Bathers has long been one of our favourite restaurants for special occasions because of the location, service and menu selections.
Last Sunday's visit was no exception. ticked all the boxes on a brilliant sunny day.
