ELY BAR & GRILL
This was a great spot and would highly recommend sitting downstairs to get the experience of the old vaults. The food was really good. Service was a little slow as we struggled to get someones attention when we wanted to order drinks but the staff were lovely and when they checked in they were genuine check-in's
Efficient good value meal, presented and served within the lunchtime time constraints.
The confit duck was amazing. Perfect winter food.
I like the venue and use it a lot for lunch but little things are not as they used to be. I also think that the menus could be shuffled more often. - At least every three months
Great, friendly, attentive
Our reservation was for 7.30 but they were able to seat us earlier. We didn’t have a starter so ordered 2 Fillet Steaks. As one was to he well done our server advised it could take up to 30 minutes. We ordered drinks and waited for our food. We weren’t disappointed. The steaks were cooked to perfection. Next was dessert which was Chocolate tart and because it was a birthday they had decorated the plate. Will definitely be back and highly recommend
Lovely restaurant but as it was downstairs I couldn’t get a signal to text my friend upon arrival. Excellent food and the staff were great. Wine was fantastic as well.
Nice restaurant good service and quality food. Will go back
It was a good food, but nothing exciting . They had fixed pre theater menu so the choice was not big .
Had booked for 2.45pm and ate in bar. Location great, very central and extremely relaxing. Great for watching world go by. Staff so friendly and accommodating. Wine and Food delicious - burger fab! Would definitely recommend and will definitely return
To be quite frank, service started out good and then it declined. Wine was great and appetizer was good but not until 15minutes past before we even got to order water. Waiter and service was rushed. Ordered a steak medium rare which came out medium, tough and dry, I sent it back and and got offered a different cut of steak which took a long time. And had to get flag someone down to order dessert. Seemed like we were forgotten. And when I tried to pay the bill, they tried to over charge me. Was my night in Dublin and I wanted a special dinner and ended up ring quite the disappointment.
Great service, great food. Very convenient for before a concert.
My sister was very I'll after her Meal. Her burger was cold. And had to be returned. The starters were very good however and the staff were very helpful.
Lovely setting for pre-theatre dinner. Nice menu, fast and friendly service and the place itself is really nicely decorated. Definitely recommend.
The steak we had the last time was kinda rare and I asked for medium rare.. It was really chewy to think it was thinly sliced. But overall it was alright. We still had a good night. They usually have the best tasting steak.
We were there early and had the pre-theatre menu. The food was tasty enough and service friendly.
Excellent food and great service, the chicken dish on the early bird menu was delicious, will definitely return again
Noisy table next to us.
Excellent food, staff and venue.Love this place .Cant recommend it enough
Had a very enjoyable afternoon at Ely. Food, wine & service all excellent.
Food and service great as always. Central location
From the moment we entered , we where meet with a warmth of comfort and professionalism. The hostess was quick, knowledgeable and precise which was exactly what i want when i enter a fine establishment. My only note that struck a cord was that I noticed a long clothing rack with only one coat on the rack. We where not offered if our coats could be taken at this point. I though that would be a perfect end to the introduction to this venue. Maybe next time tho. The lighting with ambiance was very sophisticated and well collaborative with the style of the underground cellar which left an adventurous lighthearted impression on the mind. We where led to our table by a waiter and after seating (I placed my coat foaled on the longer seat next to my other half, as I did not want to place my coat over my chairs as I was seating outwards and did not want anyone to trip) The waiter kindly explained the soup of the day right away and gave us our menus. For a few minutes we looked at the menu. I believed in everything to be reasonably well priced food wise however felt the wine price some items to be unfairly priced. I can appreciate the price of a great wine but was it the standard of the wine, the reputation of the venue or the location of the venue that I was paying for? Possibly the later two. A different waiter then came and took our orders. She was very polite and customer oriented. She came back with our wine and explained a little about the wine and showcased the wine perfectly while i tested.
Our starters came we both had chosen the Basil Infused Watermelon. Absolutely delicious. The texture all matched and worked well with the sweet of the melon and the salt of the olive and goats cheese.
For the main course I had chosen the slow roasted chicken supreme. Everything was perfect with this dish I was completely satisfied. The chicken was cooked to perfection. All the ingredients accomplished the taste and textures. Creative yet committed to tradition. We shall return.
Unique setting, delicious food
Great waiting staff and ambience. Food was pricey for what we got. Overall I would recommend a visit but only using an early bird menu.
Lovely atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Staff were delightful and really attentive. Food was delicious, will definitely be back again and soon!
i have been to Ely CHQ on quite a number of occasions and mostly find it an enjoyable experience. Lovely feel in the Cellar, the food is usually very good and the staff excellent.
On this occasion I found that the gents toilet was not being cleaned regularly, with an overflowing paper towel bin allowing paper to fall on the flour and an accumulation of dodgy aims around the urinals. i reported this to a staff member but on a later visit found that nothing was done.
Pre-theatre dinner, service was prompt and friendly, food delicious and wine perfectly chilled.... what more could you ask for?
It is really nice place highly recommend for visiting. Short menu but really high quality of food.
We sat outside, on a beautiful cool evening.
The Ely terrace has an excellent ambiance and providing the weather is good as it was this evening then it’s a wonderful place to have some wine and food.
We had an excellent wine recommended by our server who was very attentive in spite of it being very busy.
The bar bites are good and solid food but nothing very remarkable .
As usual our lunch was excellent! Food was very good. The staff were friendly and efficient. And the glorious weather added to the great ambience! We had no problem exchanging our pre ordered high top table for one outdoors in the sunshine.
Food quality was excellent - fresh, farm to table - though taste was a bit bland and steak and duck were tough. Wine choices were limited but very good. Ambience was amazing in the downstairs wine vault area.
Nice wine list but that’s about it. The menu is designed for bros on a business trip. Overpriced mediocre food in a fancy setting.
Was meeting a client to celebrate a special occasion and we had a really lovely lunch at Ely....great food and service, also lovely atmosphere, got quite noisy at one point but did not take away from the experience!
Food was absolutely stunning, each and every dish especially the duck. One of the best dishes I think I’ve ever eaten. Service was impeccable at the beginning however it seemed we were forgotten about for a while as our plates weren’t cleared after the main for a bit longer than it should have been. However, once this was brought to their attention it was instantly fixed. Not a major issue whatsoever, most likely just slipped the view of the staff.
Very nice dining experience, good ambience, excellent service.
Will come again!
top class food and staff. will definitely be back
Menu was really well put together, all our dishes were delicious, the staff were very prompt yet professional, fantastic value for money!
Food as alway, spectacular! We had 3 different servers attending our table. Was had to make an effort to get someone refill our water, as no waiter had ownership of the table and came over to check of all is ok. This restaurant is one of my favorite and the atmosphere is wonderful and I expect the quality of service to match the quality of all else that this place offers. Great place for a date btw. Stakes are delish!
We had a lovely family meal in Ely this week. We were there last year and everyone agreed we should return for this occasion.
The setting in this old vaulted building creates a lovely atmosphere.
The service is very good. Our waiter was very attentive and always at hand without being intrusive.
The food and wine were fabulous. We had a chef and a sommelier in our party and both were very happy with our meal.
I would definitely recommend a visit to Ely.
I've been to Ely bar and grill several times. The latest visit was a Thursday lunchtime. There was no one at the desk upstairs when we arrived at 12.43, so we went downstairs, and explained we had a reservation, and I gave my name and reservation time of 12.45. The person we spoke to waved towards several empty tables and said "take any of the tables for two". When we sat at one, he asked if we would be drinking wine, and as we paused and said maybe not (it was a working lunch), he picked up the wine glasses from the table and took them away. There was just something about the way he did it that made me feel unwelcome.
We chose main courses of Seared cod for me, and simple battered fish and chips for my companion. Both were delicious, as usual.
Later we ordered desert - my companion chose a tart - and green tea and an Americano. Tea and coffee arrived promptly, but after a long delay we had to attract the servers attention and remind him we were still waiting for the tart. It arrived soon after.
We paid our bill of just over €50 with a credit card and left a cash tip.
As we left, I noticed an email from the reservation service Open Table which began
We understand that plans can change unexpectedly. We learned from ELY BAR & GRILL that you weren't seated for your booking on Thursday for 2."
The email went on to explain how terrible it is not to turn up for a booking, and that I shouldn't do it again.
There was a point later in the email giving me the opportunity to protest my innocence if I had actually cancelled or perhaps even attended on time. But Open Table will check with the restaurant, and oddly my bill or receipt won't prove my innocence, so I'm guilty until Ely say otherwise.
Despite the great food and good value, I now feel bad about Ely and very wary of ever using Open Table to make a reservation again. Avoid both.
