The Essence @ Melbourne Marriott Hotel
Meal size was disappointing. However, the service was very good.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We were served promptly and cheerfully. We felt we got very good value for our money. We would like to do it again.
We went for the buffet breakfast and was a little underwhelmed by the voices on offer but the egg station saved the day with some beautiful omelettes and well poached eggs.
We had the Travelzoo voucher so it was a set menu. Calamari were excellent. Barramundi was good. The ravioli was ok. The service was very good but unfortunately there is zero atmosphere.
This is our fourth time at this restaurant and I feel sure we will return again. The quality of our meal was excellent and the service by staff was exceptional. Would definitely recommend to our family and friends
We took advantage of a deal through Travel Zoo which offered a 3 course meal, cocktail and glass of wine. Both our meals were beautiful. This is the second time we have been here and both experiences were excellent.
Was a lovely experience to treat a friend here in Melbourne
I had a group of 4 for a 90th bitrthday. We all had a great time. Everything was fabulous, service outstanding. Food was great - perhaps one small critique - maybe a little more savoury on the plate. Other than that, it was a terrific day and thanks for making it special
We had a wonderful evening at the Marriott. The services was amazing, Satinder served us and he made sure that everything about the evening was perfect for us. He was very professional. The food was delicious and so where the drinks. I would definitely go back there again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our wine and seafood. The seafood had a good variety and beautifully presented. We also added a dessert and coffee. The service was outstanding and overall a very enjoyable night.
There was no atmosphere to the high tea... the waitresses appeared like they didn’t enjoy their job and only came when we waved at them for help... the food was average and the place extremely noisy..,
Had lunch here before a show. Fast and friendly service and delicious food. Close to theatres.
The food was amazing. The wine excellent. The service was second to none. Would I recommend this restaurant .....Already have to my friends. can't rave enough about the place.
I have already contacted you about the most disappointing encounter made through you. Too long to go through again. Do you keep records??
We visited here prior to the theatre, and it was delicious.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and our server was willing to provide recommendations.
All entrees and mains were exceptionally good, presented well and cooked perfectly.
Dessert was nice, but compared with the mains, were slightly disappointing.
Would certainly recommend for next time.
Although i had booked "hightop" table we were seated in an excellent alternative position with window and view seating.
The pork belly was beautiful but the dips were a bit ordinary. It’s a great place for pre Theatre dining
Amazing service I have to say. Food, too small portion for the price of it. I really expected better from a 5 star. It was extremely Noisy and was not the ambiance I wanted or what they seemed to portray online. I wouldn’t go back to be honest but I really enjoyed the service !
waited 1 hr for the entree to arrive.
steak was not overly tender.
salad was very good though.
service was pleaant but overstrained.
Delicious food ,presented beautifully. Barramundi was really fresh.
Service was friendly and efficient.
We had the Seafood stack and a bottle of wine for a birthday lunch. The service was very good, friendly ,welcoming and attentive. However, we were disappointed with the cold seafood. Th3 mussels were leathery and in edible, the octopus tasteless as was the crab. Hardly worth the effort to get the small amount of meat out. The oysters and smoked salmon were ok. The hot seafood though was much better, and we thoroughly enjoyed the offerings of prawns, flathead in tempura batter and the salt and pepper calamari. But why only serve one tiny wedge of lemon? Overall could improve.
We had an excellent barramundi dish each which arrived on time, accompanied by nice wines. My only criticism was that the staff rarely smiled or interacted, which was off putting on arrival. We went to The Essence pre theatre on a Sunday, which was an easy walk to Her Majesty's.
After booking a few weeks prior to our lunch & confirming the 'Chef's Express/pre-Theatre package menu' was available, the waitress told us 'we'd only booked for the 2-course menu' when I hadn't stipulated 2 or 3 course on booking. The waitress didn't seem to know the menu very well, and though the food was of a high standard, when we went to pay the staff had not included our wine, (house wine and soft drinks included in deal), but I'd chosen a different drink, or coffee (not included in deal). We were called back to the restaurant and almost missed start of 'Muriel's Wedding' when a staff member had not added one of our payments to our table, but had randomly accepted the CC without attributing it to a specific table. Not the smooth service we'd expected.
Thank you so very much for making my husband’s birthday dinner extra special:)
Great spot for a lunch before the theatre. We enjoyed our meals, however the waitresses didn't always seem to understand what we ordered. My son ordered a Ballantynes Scotch and diet cola which he repeated twice - he was served a bottle of Pepsi Max? Still it was a good atmosphere and our food was very nice - would definitely recommend the restaurant.
We enjoyed the seafood stack purchased with a Scoopon for 4. From the time of arrival service was quick and efficient. Would recommend The Essence as a lovely venue to dine out in the city of Melbourne.
The wait staff took 15 minutes to attend to us after our arrival, and only when I called somebody over. We were wanting desert after the main meal and after 20 minutes with empty glasses, we decided that we would leave. Very poor service.
Lovely fresh seafood and excellent service. Our group of four were very happy with everything
We arrived at 6.15pm and encouraged to sit at a table that was not our preference on booking online earlier. The table allocated to us was between two other tables already occupied by one couple and a single diner, whereas most of the other tables in the middle and other side of the restaurant were not occupied. The entree was served at 6.40pm. At 6.50 pm a group of 25 arrived and were seated on two tables immediately adjacent to the three tables occupied by the early diners. Although our entrees were consumed by 7.05 pm our plates were not cleared until 7.30pm Between 7.05pm and 7.40 the staff served the two tables of the large party and basically all other customers were ignored. At 7.50pm our main courses were served. The noise from the two large tables was extreme to the point that the other diners had difficulty in communicating with each other. The management of the seating was thoughtless, the service was concentrated of the large group, and the fact that other diners that had arrived earlier and ordered earlier ignored. It was noticed that other diners were complaining. It should be emphasised that the serving staff were trying their best in the face of what appeared to be incompetent management.
Our first time for lunch at The Essence although have been for dinner. Really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere the food was delightful as always and the staff very friendly and helpful. We didn't feel rushed so were able to sit back and enjoy the meal and a nice chat.
Very uncomfortable seating
Good food....not quite as much as shown on web sight could include a little fruit
But good value although the same
The atmosphere was comfortable. The seafood platter was excellent. The fish was cooked well and all the seafood was fresh. The wine that was chosen was great. The dessert that I had I certainly would not have again. In regards to the table service,it took to long for our table to be cleared of the seafood platter. The platter was big,the table was small. Was a little disappointed that I had to ask for the table to be wiped down.Which was wiped onto the floor near our feet.
Food was excellent. Service was exemplary. We were met with a smile and friendly manner. Paige was wonderful and gave us silver service.
We really enjoyed the seafood stack. This is the second time we have dined at the restaurant and found the staff very friendly and polite. The found came out quick and we enjoyed the restaurant atmosphere.
All together very nice lunch. Good value for money - very tasty food. Presentation and service excellent.
William made us feel very welcome and his pleasant manner and professionalism was appreciated. We had a very good deal on our seafood meal, and the wine that came with it was of a good standard. The transition from the restaurant to the magic show at the Marriott was very easy and both are highly recommended.
We were a group of 8 and most of us had the special lunch (burger and beer on a Thursday). The food was great and the service even better. We'd booked before-hand, which was a good idea as the restaurant was reasonably busy.
For a two for one high tea, it was good value. Savoury foods could have been fresher, but sweets and drinks were lovely.
Went there for our anniversary. The meal was good value for money. Would like to have had sweets or a cocktail but these were fairly pricey so opted to have cocktails elsewhere. Staff were very courteous and the meal came quickly. It was fairly quiet and overall a pleasant experience
