Food excellent, especially the last minute veggie option required when the only one on the menu was unavailable - the replacement was so good I would willing have had it as a main instead of starter.
Sommelier was very helpful with advice.
A fabulous meal to end 18 months of cooking at home ,enjoying the event with family in a safe environment.

Just a truly fantastic experience. The Terrace is a beautiful location to sit outside and have superb food. We had the small plates option and the quality and variety was top class. Starting with oysters which were delicious, followed by the antipasti platter which was a treat. Followed this up with the escargot which were tender and melt in the mouth, a great baked Camembert with truffle, arancini and a glorious steak tartare. Washed down with orange wine and cocktails. As an experience the total of £120 was tremendous value. The staff were helpful, polite and very personable. Cannot recommend highly enough and we will be back.

Lovely meal on the outdoor terrace - service very attentive and food delicious. Tempura vegetables were especially interesting and delicious. Great place for a treat.

Even in the middle of the pandemic, L'Ortolan managed to deliver a great birthday-lunch last week with very good food and brilliant service.
Relaxed atmosphere, lovely surroundings on their new terrace. Heaters in the awning and a couple of stand alone heaters, plus blankets. Service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. Food was superb as usual - different to their normal menu, but very suited to the alfresco dining. Great local beer selection. Overall a lovely, relaxed lunch.
As a first outing post lockdown it is hard to be critical. However the service was slow, very slow. The food whilst nice was not close to Michelin star level and the only potatoes on offer were two varieties of French fries.

We've been a few times over the years and it has been a little hit and miss, but we really enjoyed our meal on 18/12/20. The restaurant was Covid-secure, staff were on fine form, and the cooking was the best we have had at L'Ortolan. The potato, fish and pudding (pear-based) courses really stood out, and we enjoyed some excellent wine (a Hungarian white, recommended by the sommelier, was extremely good). The venison course was a little disappointing but otherwise a really good evening. Thanks
We were greeted on our return to L'Ortolan by the wonderful staff who remembered us and made us feel very special. The service was faultless, friendly, informative and we couldn't want for anything. The food as before was exceptional, The Gourmand menu paired with mocktails for me as a non drinker it was a sublime. I was made to feel as special as the drinkers who get to learn all about their beverages from the sommeliers choice...I had a selection of wonderful blends of teas, fruits, cream, non alcoholic herbals all put together by the award winning cocktail creator there. Much better than the usual tall inelegant glass with soda and lime that I usually receive in restaurants.
We were thoroughly spoiled....hours of exquisite food, great service...highly recommended.

We were sorry to see Chef Tom Clarke leave earlier this year as we had many wonderful meals at l'Ortolan. However, Chef James Greatorex is bringing a unique and very different flair to the food. Arctic Char, caviar and white chocolate? Absolutely delicious and this is just the start of a superb culinary journey through the new menus. The mushroom ravioli is to die for and we were sorry that it wasn't on the menu this week; please reinstate it. This restaurant is definitely heading for at least a 2 star status.
One of the best meals I have had a L’Ortolan, and I have been going for 34 years through all the different chefs. I am a pescatarian and every course was excellent.
A real Saturday lunchtime treat - would normally have booked for the evening, but limited availability meant we could only get lunchtime. But actually enjoyed it more

This was our annual Christmas trip to L'Ortolan. As usual we weren't disappointed. Great food, wine & service. We opted for the Menu Gormand with accompanying wines. Not cheap but very enjoyable. Overall great experience!
It's a great experience to dine in a fine dining establishment, and the service was friendly and informal. We sampled the vegetarian and vegan menus, with a sommelier who introduced us to a range of wines and made some excellent pairings. The vegetaran and vegan menus were delicious and presented with care. However they lacked nutritional value ( most important in vegan and vegetarian cooking) and imagination . There was no use of nuts or seeds, no special oils used for dressing, and no beans or pulses. There was little imagination with the vegetable used, three of my courses involved celeriac, there are many more vegetables that would make the experience more interesting. It would have been a good opportunity to introduce homemade vegan cheese, but no such luck.

Generally speaking a lovely meal. Decided to pay extra for fresh truffle on a dish which was as flavoursome as grated cardboard which was a shame. Very expensive so, although lovely, perhaps not value for money when taken as a whole experience.
Wonderful service , fabulous food . It’s a real treat to dine there . The staff are so welcoming , they make it a special night .
They were aware it was our wedding anniversary and delivered a beautiful suprise with our dessert course.

Celebrating family 30th Birthdays. We all had the Menu Prestige which was amazing and the chef accommodated a food allergy with excellent alternatives. Fantastic way to try dishes you ordinarily might not have chosen and every course was well explained. My Daughter and I had the wine flight to accompany the menu and Marco, the Sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and interesting. Again we tried some wines we would otherwise never have considered. All in all a great evening, the staff were very attentive and coped brilliantly with all the Covid restrictions.
I wanted to experience a Michelin stared restaurant so treated myself to lunch at L'Ortolan. From the moment I arrived the team were attentive and made everything feel special.
The atmosphere was relaxing and the food was amazing. Each course was explained in detail by the waiter and built the anticipation for the first bite.
Every course was perfect and a true delight to eat.
I'd recommend L'Ortolan to anyone wanting to treat themselves or someone special

Excellent food and great wines, the only things that has impacted the experience is the way the service has be delivered due to COVID-19 restrictions in restaurants. We were originally down for 7.30pm , after the 10pm curfew I brought it forward to 7pm but now wish we had booked for 6.30pm as the last fifteen minutes was slightly rushed, no fault of the staff just the curfew. So my advice is, if you go for the 7 course then allow a good amount of time.
We had an enjoyable anniversary celebration. The tasting menu and paired wines were all excellent. We were in the conservatory, which was a little cool at first, but warmed up during the evening. Our anniversary was acknowledged with a chocolate message that made dessert particularly special.
Our problem with the service was not the serving waiters but the attitude prevalent when we stated that we did not have smartphones to read the online menus and wine list. The Maitre de was thereafter (in our view) somewhat condescending and appeared to treated us as plague victims to be viewed from a distance!
Superlatives abound - a wonderful experience. We had the Menu Gourmand - sublime, thoughtful cooking reflecting the season. Service was excellent, and supported by a particularly knowledgeable and helpful sommelier. The range of wines by the glass has some interesting bottles, and we recommend that you sample. A destination that is worth seeking out. We will be back soon.
