Fire Tower Restaurant & Tavern
Annual dinner at Stratton. I got the Delmonico. It was perfection. The rest of my family got burgers and pizza. Everyone was happy with their meal. Good wine list.
Fire Tower is our favorite restaurant at Stratton. This trip, the restaurant was not busy, since we went on a Sunday evening. The food as always was excellent - highly recommend the venison. Our waiter did a great job. The only negative is our food came out way too quick. We were seated, sipping our wine for barely 10 minutes when our salad came out. The we were not finished with our salad when the main course came out. We did mention that to our waiter who said he would take that comment back to the kitchen. I know timing is sometimes tricky but to enjoy a nice dinner at a fine dining restaurant, the timing should be about an hour and 15 - 30 minutes.
Great environment and excellent food. Enjoyed sitting by fire pits afterwards too.
We were on a family ski vacation with our kids , son-in- law and grandchildren. As alway Fire Tower was exceptional. FT hasn’t disappointed yet. Something for everyone on the menu .
Thank You RonaldP for the 5 Stars across the board.
We have been dining at this restaurant for the past 5 years. We loved the food and service. This year we made a reservation for both our nights at Stratton. We arrive and are sat in the more bar like side of the restaurant which is fine. Our waitress asked my husband and I what we wanted to drink and never once asked our adult niece if she wanted anything! We kind of made it a game and not once thru dinner did she ask her. The restaurant was somewhat busy but not crazy. Our soup/salad cane 45 minutes after we were seated. We asked for a pasta dish with a substitute sauce and were told the kitchen does not allow! The menu had changed a bit and less dishes we liked. We heard the next day that there was a new Chef. Needless to say we cancelled our reservation for the 2nd night. Pricey for okay food, drinks and service. We never mind paying for a nice experience. This trip it definitely fell short.
Hi JoannB Thank you for being guest for the past 5 years. This winter is our 7th year at the resort. Our chef has been with us since day one. He became our head chef 2 years ago. As the owner I have to be publicly honest. The holidays ran from Dec 20 to Jan 5. We're exhausted 65 - 75 hours the past two weeks for everyone. Your say "We have been dining at this restaurant for the past 5 years. We loved the food and service" this is always our goal we obviously fell short on this visit.
Easy to get to and great food. Wanted to have a nice dinner after a day on the slopes.
Atmosphere was very clean and professional. Great ambience. All the salads, appetizers, we’re great. Beer and wine choices fabulous lamb chops and steak and accompaniments we’re fabulous. Tuna tartare could’ve used wasabi and soy, it was out of quality tuna and prepared perfectly. The salad side was a little bit inappropriate. Not as it should be prepared. Shrimp tempura was not what was described or expected slightly undercooked. noodles and sauce were lacking in flavor. Would not describe it as a tempura.
Food was good, especially the schnitzel. The music was pretty bad, though. Random hits from the 80s and 90s. Not what you expect with $30 dinners.
Hi Michaela, Glad you liked the food and service. The music was by design since it was New Years Eve but thank you for that comment about the music. We will keep that in mind for the future
We went for New Years Eve and the service was terrible. Our server forgot multiple items, never asked if the food was ok and we had to go get our own ketchup (for our kids hamburger and fries).
Hi NoraF I'm glad you liked the food and ambiance. Sorry about the service levels on New Years Eve. We try our best but we can get overwhelmed during peak times during weekends and holidays.
Server rushed us into ordering... didn’t tell us specials, made us use our app plates for our bread plates when we asked for different ones..food was BOMB though!!!!! Service was weird.. went a little late so maybe she was just trying to get done with work? Not sure
Hi Anonymous - regardless how late it is guests should not be rushed. Sorry about that. Loved your comment "food was BOMB though!!!!!"
Make your reservation early. Best meal at Stratton. Great small plate selection.
Glad you liked our new small plate selections Melperl. We spent a lot of time testing new ideas for the winter menu.
We have enjoyed dining here on numerous occasions and were not disappointed this time.
The food and service were, once again, outstanding.
Hi Ellen - thank you for supporting our business on numerous occasions. We're not perfect every time but that is our goal. Thanks for the 5 stars across the board.
My family had a very nice experience at Fire Tower. The chicken, salmon, burger and schnitzel
were all very good main dishes! I also enjoyed the wedge salad but my husband was luke-warm on the Caesar (he says it was tasteless). Our waiter was super AWESOME and I'm sorry I can't remember his name. Great service trumps all. We would definitely dine here again and would recommend.
We agree mama73 - our servers are AWESOME. Thanks for visiting
Always great. Love new menu items.
Somehow Stratton can’t get a decent restaurant. This place was better in years past. Must have new chef or management. Seating was painful for the hostess. There was not really much crowd but she was terribly unenthusiastic at out our arrival. Waitress was worse. Drinks even worse yet. Signature cocktail was a shot on over a greasy old piece of bacon and worlds largest ice cube. Not at all as described. The muddling and mixing in the description was probably to much work and they just did the bare minimum. See a pattern. Food was mediocre at best. Greasy Schnitzel over some frozen beans and tasteless sauce and not that good pasta. Sub par sloppy bar burger. Jammed in a basket that makes it impossible to eat. And desert menu was so bad we didn’t want to try our luck. No espresso. They had coffee. Waitress brought it begrudgingly with a spoon but never any cream or sugar. Overall the service was the worst. Maybe a decent meal might have saved their terrible attitude and service, we will never know. And it’s priced like it’s far better than it is. The food in the ski lodge is about 1000x times better and their happy to serve you there.
Ski Magazine visited us this past fall loved our Wiener Schnitzel & Bacon Old Fashion. Sorry you didn't Stratton Mountain Vt Manicured trails and fine dining combine with high quality terrain parks and tree skiing at this Vermont resort. SKI Magazine Sept 17, 2019 "DINNER PICK: Try the 21-hour pork belly at Verde or Wiener Schnitzel at the Fire Tower, then explain how Stratton only ranks No. 11 for Dining" DINNER RESERVATION Fire Tower for a Bacon Old Fashioned and the signature Ahi nachos.
Always great. They've changed up the Weinerschnitzel, but it's delicious in a new way. Service always professional as well as friendly.
Thanks for the 5 Stars Peter Happy Holidays
We had a great dinner on a Friday night. Baked brie appetizer was tasty. The entrees were well presented and delicious. Will return when we are back at Stratton.
Hi AliceM The Baked Brie is new this year and a perfect starter for the table after a day on the mountain. Happy Holidays and Thank You for the 5 stars Peter
Flat bread pizza was so-so. I remembered it being better. Service so-so, not very attentive and waiter didn't seem to care very much about doing a good job. Too bad there are not more choices in Stratton Village.
Amy is such a friendly hostess we always look forward to seeing her. Are waitress Jess was lovely and extremely attentive to our needs.
Hi JeffE We love Amy and Jess too. Thanks for the 5 stars. Peter - owner
Food and service was great on Saturday night. Place was crowded but food was served in a timely manner. Ahi nachos are off the charts and this time I tried the Bolognese. Very good. Service was very attentive and stopped by numerous times to ask if we needed anything or just to ask how our meal was.
Great squash lobster bisque
Thanks for the 5 stars. We just reopened for the winter season and we're happy you enjoyed our restaurant. Peter - owner
Awesome !!! Just awesome !!! Food is great, service is very very good!! Make sure you order the jerk wings!!
Whoa Anonymous.........................thanks for your energetic 5 star review. Our wings are the best as they are not your normal icky bar wings. Peter - owner
Never fails to be a good time at Firetower. Great Food, Fabulous service, G and Mike are the best bartenders in town. Take a solo seat at the bar, or take the family for a big night out you can't go wrong! New menu launched and I can't wait to go back and try it all.
Hi CarolH Thanks for the 5 stars. We just reopened for the winter season and we're happy you enjoyed our restaurant. We added many new menu items and G & Mike at the bar have crafted fun new winter cocktails. See you soon. Peter - owner
Food was terrible. Also, menu had an entree that was incorrectly described (said grilled, when in fact it was breaded & fried).
Service was good but would never go back again.
You visited on Sunday later in the evening and it was our last day until Thanksgiving. Regardless, that is not an issue any guest should be concerned with. We did a poor job with your table and I apologize. Our manager took the item off your bill. I met with our chef and managers as this is not how we run our business. Very frustrating as we had a strong Columbus weekend until the end Sunday evening. I have the option to make this response public or private. I made it public. Peter - owner
Unfortunately a disappointing evening. We eat here regularly and this time, we’re bringing friends. First off, the way the reservations are handled are ridiculous. No wonder reservations need to be made weeks in advance. We were a party of 6 and we got sat in a booth. We’re 6 adults and we’re quite squished. We asked to be moved to a larger table in the back. Initially They didn’t want to sit us there because they were holding this table for a reservation that was coming in two hours later. A bit absurd! We told them we would be gone in an hour and 45 minutes, so they sat us. Our server was a nice young women, but really didn’t seem 100% on task. There were many items crossed off the menu that they ran out of, including chicken protein for a salad. I overheard the waitress tell another table they were closing for a few weeks and they weren’t re opening till Thanksgiving. That’s not an excuse! I don’t make reservations weeks in advance and bring family to a nice restaurant to only have a limited menu available. Two ppl in our party had sweet potato fries with their meal that were un eatable. It was mentioned to the server and they immediately removed these meals from our bill. This was not expected, but we appreciated the gesture and and attention to the dislike. By the end of our meal we all started to smell marijuana which was coming from the back of the restaurant, where we believe the kitchen was. All in all, our dinner was a disappointment and I do t k ow I’ll will trying to be making reservations here through the ski season.
Thank you for visiting regularly. Columbus weekend is as busy as a winter weekend. You visited on Sunday, our last day until Thanksgiving and this presents challenges for us. It's not an excuse but it is a challenge. The booths are industry standard made for six people and your table was ready when you arrived for your reservation. New staff joined after Labor Day. Our side exit door was opened and pedestrians gather/walk by is the only explanation for any smells. I was at the restaurant.
The service was very slow unfortunately because the ambiance is nice. Our appetizers came out and then our meal took almost 45 minutes to come out after our appetizers. We asked our server twice about our meal and she did not seem very concerned that we had been waiting so long and she did not do a good job following up to make sure our meal came. It was very frustrating as it wasn't that busy.
GinaF Sorry we were a little slow. You sat in our dining room which seats 68. On the other side of our restaurant is is the bar, tavern, lounge and patio that seats 93. Saturday of Columbus weekend was harvest/brewfeast at Stratton. We were quite busy.
Mussels were very good and the tuna appetizer was tasty. 3 of us got the duck and it was good albeit a bit dry. Our server was good but just seemed a bit overwhelmed because it was quite busy. Only negative is there are very few choices on entree menu. All 4 of us were looking forward to the seiner schnitzel or the veal chop but both were taken off menu.
Never disappoints. The bartender was particularly attentive and friendly.
Nicely done at Fire Tower. Good food and ample portions.
Dish was very good, but why would you put sauce on shoestring fries.
Salmon and Fish of the Day, Red Snapper, were wonderful!
Excellent ambience. Quiet in the main dining room.
Nice menu and excellent service.
Limited parking and would benefit by adding additional handicapped spots.
Hi Bruce Thank you for the 5 Stars. I'm an independent owner and the resort controls the parking. I wish we had more parking too. Thanks for visiting. Peter - owner
Enjoyed our evening here - would definitely recommend this restaurant
As always, the staff is lovely here and the food is delicious.
Always a great dining experience at Fire Tower. The owners are dedicated and the staff feel like family. The vibe is great in the bar area and the outdoor seating makes you the envy of village pedestrians. Cheers, we’ll see you soon.
Rachel was great. She took care of our every need and kept the Bourbon flowing..
Hi JasonA Thanks for the 5 Stars and we agree Rachel is great :)
My husband and I had a very nice dinner outside on the patio. The service was excellent and the food was very good. I enjoyed the coconut veggie rice bowl with added shrimp:).
Thanks for the 5 stars Pennyk. Our timber framed patio is a guest favorite to dine
Waiter was excellent. This was a Saturday night. Not many diners. As we were seated, the diners at our neighboring table actually walked out of the restaurant leaving their full meals on the table. Several menu items were not available. The deep fried duck was a winner, as were the mussels. The deep fried shrimp good, but the Asian noodles were the worst one could imagine. The snapper special was over cooked and tough. My Belvedere vodka martini had an odd taste to it and I never got my shaker ice on the side. The “fresh” basil in the watermelon margarita was black from age, not very appealing. I realize it is somewhat off season, but if they are to put out a dining experience and meal to return for, that was not going to make it. Don’t like giving a bad review as I know how difficult running a restaurant is, but I also think it important to let management know the experience they were responsible for and hopefully the feedback will help them to improve their restaurant moving forward.
Thank you for visiting and enjoying 3 of 4 meals. Sorry that the fish was overcooked. You enjoyed our Shrimp dish but requested the sauce on the side. The sauce enhances the noodles in the dish but you are not the first person that did not enjoy the noodles. We will look to change out the noodles. I spoke into detail with your server. He covered all the tables in your area and confirmed that no one complained as they left the restaurant. I'm at a loss on why a martini would have an odd taste.
Great food, great service.
